Noble (1918 - 2012) Funeral services for Rev. I. D. Noble, 94, of Anacoco will be held on Jan. 1 at Beech Grove Methodist Church with Bro Melvin Smith, Bro, Ken Dickerson, Bro. Bill Jones and Bro Brent Noble officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville. I.D., the son of Clarence and Rosie Noble, was born Aug. 23, 1918 in Hemphill, Texas. He passed away on Dec. 29, 2012 at the Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary Lynn Noble and a grandson, John E. Schaffer. Left to cherish Bro. Noble's memory is his wife of 67 years, Ella Mae Noble; a son, Kenneth and Gail Noble; a daughter, Dianne and Carl Neugebauer; along with 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Joe Paul Parker (1937 - 2013) Funeral services for Joe Paul Parker, 75, of Simpson will be held on Jan. 8 at Simpson Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Blocker officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Slagle under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville. Joe, the son of Charlie Hermon and Velma Parker was born March 12, 1937, in Simpson. He passed away Jan. 5, 2013 at his residence in Simpson. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from the Federal Civil Service at Fort Polk. He was the first elected Mayor of Simpson in 1968, and then served again in 1992 and 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lt. Gene Parker and Billy H. Parker; and aunt, Lela Bagents Mueller Joe is survived by his daughters, Paula Parker, and Charla and Murray Ross; and two grandchildren, Sean Bonnette and Justin Bonnette, all of Simpson. Adrienne S. Tidwell (1927 - 2013) A memorial service celebrating the life of Adrienne S. Tidwell, 85, of Monroe will be held on Jan. 8 at Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe with The Very Rev. T.W. Stodghill, III officiating. Interment will follow at the Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium. Mrs. Tidwell passed away on Jan. 4, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Adrienne was born in New Orleans on March 24, 1927 and moved with her parents to Monroe at age 3. It was through her father's orthodontics specialty that she met Dr. Therman "Snuffy" Smith of Little Rock, Ark., whom she married in 1960. Adrienne made the decision to move back to Monroe in January 1978 to be with friends and family following the death of Snuffy in 1975. In 1994, she married long-time and childhood friend Carl "Cig" Tidwell of Monroe whom she remained married to until her death. Adrienne is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Nathan and Adrienne Gaston, and Dr. Therman "Snuffy" Smith. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Carl "Cig" Tidwell; her son, Nat Smith and his wife Stephanie of Monroe; a daughter, Adrienne Bailey and her husband Mack of Leesville; stepdaughter, Barbara Dunn and her husband Jim of Tulsa, Okla.; stepdaughter, Carolyn Jordan of Nashville, Tenn.; stepson, Mike Smith and wife Patty of Little Rock, Ark.; stepdaughter, Jan Tidwell and stepson, Dr. Gregg Tidwell and Dusty Gibbs of Monroe. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. January 10, 2013 Vester O. Crum (1917 - 2013) Funeral services for Vester O. Vester, the son of John and Nancy Hampton Crum, was born Feb. 13, 1917 in Holcomb, Mo. He passed away on Jan. 6, 2013 in Lake Wood, Calif. Mr. Crum served in the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dorothy Crum. Edward Lloyd "Bud" Quinn (1927 - 2013) Edward Lloyd "Bud" Quinn, 85, of Leesville passed on Jan. 15, 2013, with his loving wife at his side. He was born Nov. 29, 1927, was a native of Nederland, Texas and was a longtime resident of Leesville. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he honorably served his country for a total of 20 years, including service in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. He leaves behind many cherished memories, which will be shared by his wife of 37 years, Mabel Quinn; sons, Glen and wife Lynn and Mike Quinn all of Campti; daughters, Dorsey Quinn of Shelbyville, Tenn., Becky Quinn of Houston, and Melanie Quinn of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister, Oneida and husband Orvis Beard of Nederland, Texas, stepchildren, Vivian, Bud, Bob and wife Marijene, Ro, Lou and husband Jim; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. January 22, 2013 Johnny Brooks (1947 - 2013) Johnny Brooks, 65, of Leesville, passed from his earthly life to a heavenly life on Jan. 19, 2013, at his residence in Leesville. He was born April 8, 1947 in Leesville, and was a longtime resident of Leesville. Johnny lived life to the fullest, and during his lifetime, he was in the Vietnam Conflict while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Patricia Antee Brooks of Leesville; two daughters, Jeana Brooks of Leesville, and Deana Dougherty and husband Alan Dougherty of Anacoco; five grandchildren, L.J. Sgt. Maj. Noel W. Blackwell, U.S. Army, passed away on Feb. 1, 2013. He was born on Dec. 2, 1929, near Blackwell, Miss. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Johanna Blackwell; son, Noel D. Blackwell; daughters, Victoria Davidson and Lauren Elly; grandson, Neal Brandstable; granddaughters, Andre Flaghton and Elisa and his ex-wife, Ellanor. Norma, the daughter of Hoyt and Myrtie McInnis Chance, was born March 27, 1933 in Mansfield. Mrs. Kerr passed away on Feb. 5, 2013 at The Methodist Hospital in Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, and her parents. Cecilia, the daughter of Jasper Keys and Sylvia McMarion was born Jan. 18, 1955, in Leesville. She passed away Jan. 29, 2013, in Seattle, Wash. Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents Jasper and Sylvia Keys and two brothers, Jasper Joseph Keys and Marion Keys. She is survived by her son, Derrick Keys of Tacoma, Wash.; daughter, Deirdre Keys of Tacoma, Wash.; brothers, Joshua Keys of Leesville and Genesis Keys of Mesquite, Texas; sisters, Katherine Keys of Leesville, Sylvia Ann Edwards of Leesville, Leese Payton of Leesville, Beatrice Piper of Leesville, Esther Rabb of Shreveport and Princess Copeland of Killen, Texas; and two grandchildren. Joshua Pilley (1981 - 2013) Joshua Pilley was born into this world on Sept. 22, 1981. He was called home to the Lord on Jan. 29, 2013. Joshua is survived by the love of his life, Amanda Lee Gaskin, and their beautiful daughter, Leilani Grace Pilley, age 2. The rest of Joshua's family all live nearby, including Ruth Peavy Brumfield, his maternal grandmother; Susan Pilley, his mother; Gary Pilley, Amanda Chaney, and John W. Tim Straight Sr. (1948 - 2013) Tim Straight, Sr., surrendered his earthly body for his heavenly one on Feb. 5, 2013. No more pain. No more suffering. An avid sportsman, beloved husband, father and great friend, Tim died after a very courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville. Born in Jennings on Feb. 27, 1948, Tim was raised by Joe and Edna Miller, and is survived by his cherished wife Shirley (Stell) Straight, brother Alvin Straight, son and daughter in law, Timmy and Neysa Straight, daughter Tricia Straight and her fiancé Greg Starks, daughter and son-in-law Tracie (Straight) and Chris Tate, and stepdaughter Patty Stell. Also mourning the loss of this generous, charismatic and giving man are his grandchildren, Austin and Brooke Straight, Josh, Kayla, Juli and Jennifer Jagneaux, Joy and Kevin Chambers, Trinity, Faith and Grace Tate, Blake Mills, Chany Geraci and many lifelong and devoted friends. February 20, 2013 Joy Lea Davis Tucker Joy Lea Davis Tucker passed into Glory on Feb. 17, 2013. Born Nov. 5, 1923, to Charles Ivan Davis and Lida Lenora Franklin Davis in Leesville, Joy was 89 years young. She passed peacefully in Fort Worth, Texas. Graveside services will be held on Feb. 21 at the Leesville Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Charles and Lida Davis; husband, Robert Kemp Tucker, Sr.; and her sister, Vernis Simms. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ava Brister Dyess; his parents, Josie B. and Sarah Matilda Smith Dyess; one daughter, Madeline Faye Dyess; one granddaughter, Ginger Lynn Robinson; three sisters: Bertha Dyess Marler, Jessie Dyess Dubois, and Jodie Dyess Marler; and five brothers: Elbert, Ted, Oscar, Lloyd, and Rufus Dyess. He was the last surviving child of the family of Josie and Matilda Dyess. Dr. Broyles was born on June 7, 1924 in Shreveport. He was born unto Anderson Harvey Broyles and Mattie Allen Broyles. In 1950, he married Nell Williams and they began their life together in Leesville. Their five children were born and reared there. In 2000, his cherished Nell suffered a severe stroke. Although Nell was paralyzed on her left side and needed much care, Doc cared for her with great love and devotion, without complaint. He was heartbroken upon her death in 2005. They had an exemplary marriage for 55 years. Doc later remarried Sue Dyer Slack and they enjoyed two wonderful years together. Doc was also predeceased by his daughter, Linda Diane Broyles; his parents; his brothers, Harvey and Joe; and his sister, Eilyeen. She attended school in DeRidder where she met and married the love of her life, Herschel, on December 17, 1938. Elva was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Herschel E. Brother Ornner Brown, Sr., was born on Feb. 25, 1921 in Allen, which is a rural community near the Cane River in Natchitoches Parish, and grew up during the Great Depression era of the United States of America. He was the second out of three sons, who was born to Carrie Lindsey Brown and Samuel Brown. Ornner married Myrtle Louise Johnson on March 25, 1942 and shortly thereafter he was drafted into the United States Army and stationed in Europe where he served with distinction in England, France, Belgium and Germany, including the historic D-Day invasion, as a logistics non-commissioned officer. He was honorably discharged at Camp Shelby, Miss. in December 1945. During the time he was away serving his country, Myrtle gave birth to the first of four children. Esma Shankle, precious wife, mother, and grandmother, passed into Lord and Savior's open arms on Dec. 4, 2013 at the age of 97. Esma was born Oct. 29, 1916. She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life for 68 years, Thomas Shankle, who she married August 22, 1934. Esma is preceded in death by her parents, Clemie Ryan Haymon and Nancy Ella Haymon; and brothers and sisters, Pearlie Legg, Ethel Bloodsworth, Gossett Haymon, Hazel McKee, Velma Tanner, Hermon Haymon, and Marie McKee. Esma is survived by her loving daughter, Delores Thorne and son-in-law Gerald of Sunnyvale, Texas; and beloved granddaughters, Deborah Jane Mulder and Karee Jane Thorne; a precious brother, Norman Haymon; and many loved nieces, nephews and friends. She survived by her granddaughter, Leah Fenne of Leesville; step- granddaughter, Rene' and Jerry Neal of Marshall, Texas; sister, Melba and Earl Smith; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. December 12, 2013 Dannah Hayes Labby Dannah Hayes Labby, 65, of Dry Creek, died on Dec. 11, 2013. She was born on Jan. 7, 1948, to Raymond K. and Mary H. Hayes at St. Patrick's Hospital in Lake Charles, where she died. Dannah is survived by her husband, David Labby (the love of her life) of Dry Creek; children, Angela (Wayne) Martin, Joseph (Wendy) Macarthur, and Johnathan (Bonne) Macarthur; grandchildren, Jacob, Eden, Kylin and Nate; sister, Amanda (Charles) Buchanan; her aunt, Elizabeth Mothershed; as well as multiple cousins, a niece and nephew who will remember her keen sense of humor and her love of music foremost, chocolate, dragonflies and hearts and for being a wicked scrabble and canasta player. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 42 years, Juanita Wedgeworth Thompson; and two brothers, Walter Thompson and Billy Thompson. December 14, 2013 Jesse Eugene Standifer Jesse Eugene Standifer of Simpson was born Nov. 1, 1929 in Ada, Okla. He attended school in Atlers, Okla. and then started rough-necking in the Oklahoma and Texas oilfields. While serving in the U.S. Army as an MP, he met and married Evelyn Earl Martin of Simpson. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of 57 years; three sons, Jesse A. (Vickie) of Fort Worth, Texas, Gregory L. (Tammy) of Simpson, and Gary Larrion of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Jan Mills (Leon) of Princeton, Texas; six grandchildren, Jas, Courtney, Carleigh, Traci, Neil and Jamie; seven great- grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Standifer (Charlcy) of Stephenville, Texas; two sisters, Dortha Walden of Abilene, Texas and Ruby Knox (Ken) of Abilene, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
