He was a native of Hutton, a deacon at Comrade Baptist Church and Freedom Rest Baptist Church. He retired from Vernon Parish School System as a bus driver with 30 years service. He was a former Vernon Parish Police Jury member for Ward 6 and a past mason. Survivors include his wife, Mary Chance Blackwell of Rosepine; three sons, Gerald Blackwell of Pickering, Norman Blackwell of Anacoco and Ronny Blackwell of Leesville; one daughter, Evelyn Cowling of Mansfield; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. He was a native of the Hicks/Vernon parish area, a member of the Flactor Baptist Church, a hunter and a gardener. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired plumbing shop supervisor with Federal Civil Service at Fort Polk. He was preceded in death by his parents, James D. and Emily Watson Hagan his stepmother, Dois Haymon and his brother, Selmer Hagan.
