New Orleans Baptist Seminary Archives. TRIBUTE OF RESPECT To The Memory of Brother Z. E. Westmoreland. Brother Westmoreland was born March 30, 1869, and departed this life June 22, 1910; aged forty-one years, two months and twenty-two days. He was married to Miss Decia (Ardecia) Kay, December 20, 1888, being married twenty-one years, six months and two days. To this union were born eight children–five girls and three boys–all of whom are living. He joined the Missionary Baptist church in August, 1894, and several years later was ordained deacon. He was a faithful Christian work, and will be sadly missed by the church. Brother Westmoreland died of that dreadful disease, consumption. He was sick about two years; he bore his suffering with great fortitude and patience and died in the full triumph of faith; his last words telling Jesus he was coming home tonight, and said good-bye to all. He was conscious to the last, and request them to sing “Nearer My God to Thee.” We have lost a good member and officer of the church; a kind and loving husband, an affectionate father, a good neighbor and citizen. We all mourn the loss of so good and useful a man. But He who tempers the winds and to whom we all must submissive be, doeth all things well. He was laid to rest in Pine Hill cemetery, surrounded by many sorrowing relatives and friends. –W. H.
