Feb. 8, 1972 William S. Davis Pitkin, La. William Santford Davis, member of the Vernon Parish School board for almost 30 years, died Tuesday in an Alexandria hospital after a long illness. He was 61. Davis, of Pitkin, was a Ward 5 member of the school board since 1933. He served as president of the board from 1947 to 1967. He was also a farmer and cattleman. Funeral services are to be held Thursday at 2 pm in the Pitkin High school auditorium. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Oakdale. Officiating at the services will be Rev. Virgil Reeves of Oakdale, Rev. W.T. Brown and Rev. Luke Neville, both of Pineville, and Rev. V.O. Legg of Bunkie. Honorary pallbearers will be all Vernon Parish School Board members; Curtis Bradshaw, superintendent of Vernon Parish Schools; T.L. Harvey, past superintendent; and members of the Vernon Parish School Board staff. According to Bradshaw, all Vernon Parish schools will close at noon Thursday for services. Davis is survived by his widow, Mrs. Olivia Legg Davis of Pitkin; one son, Elmo Davis of Pitkin; one sister, Mrs. Reece Smith of Pitkin; and five grandchildren. [William S.
