John's birthplace is given as Maryland. A great-granddaughter of John Wood stated that she had a grandmother named Death. In the records of St. Mary Anne's Parish of Cecil County, MD are the following entries: John Wood married Rachel Death 20 Jan 1755 Elizabeth Wood, daughter of John and Rachel b. 2 Aug 1757 Bennonia Wood son of same b. 16 Sep 1760 Sarah Wood dau of same b 16 Sep 1763 Jean Wood dau of same b 8 Sep 1765 John Wood son of same b 20 Feb 1769 The above dates are taken from Early Anglican Church Records of Cecil County by Henry C. Peden, Jr. using the compilations of Lucy H. Harrison. It is not stated whether the "b" stands for birth or baptism. The date for the son, John Wood, does not match that of his tombstone in Morris Cemetery in Franklinton. Tombstone dates are often incorrect and he was nearly 90 when he died. It is important that the month is the same.
