Adam's Creek School - (Ward 5 - White) (Per map) Near Pigott's Crossing and Adam's Cemetery between Bogalusa and Varnado, (north of Hwy. 21) Angie High School - (Ward 5 - White) Left of Hwy 21, north of Hwy. 438 at Angie. Aurora School - (Ward 1 - White) From Richardson, go to crossroads at Stoney Point, take left, at 3/4 mile cross another crossroad at Pete Busby's. Pass two houses and an old house on left, school near dairy barn in a hollow. Bailey School - (1960 newspaper article) School was on the west edge of Washington Parish. Bankston School - From Franklint, northwest about 10 miles, in the Sunny Hill community. Bell District School - (Ward 3 - White) Bell School - (Ward 1 - White) (Per Map) Located east of Hwy. 25, near present Bethel Church area. Bell View School - (Ward 1 - Black) (Per Rayfus Martin) Hwy. 25, right on Bethel Road. Ben's Ford School - (Ward 4 - White) North of Hwy. 439, near present Ben's Ford Church area. Berry's Creek School - (Ward 3 - Black) Berry's Cree School - (Ward 4 - White) Hwy. 60, near Berry's Creek Pentecostal Church. Beulah School - Bickham School - (Ward 3 - White) Know as Hays/Hayes Creek School. Location: Approxi- mately 8 miles from Franklinton, Franklinton-Tylertown Hwy., turn right at Clifton. Just before hayes Creek White Church. Was in existence before 1898. Classes were held at Hays Creek Church until new church was built in 1916. After church was built, old church became school building. This community was called the Bickham community, now known as the hays Creek community. (Per Bonnie Hunt Magee, age 83.) Bogalusa Creek School - (Ward 4 - White) Established about 1890. School was built at the head of the Bogalusa Creek, near Pine, on what is now the Jim Stuart Road. School was near the present home of Elder Harvey Stuart. (May be same as Bogalusa School.) Bogalusa School - (Ward 4 - Black) Bogalusa School - (Ward 4 - White) (1905 School list shows this school listed as Bogue Loosa School.) (May be the same as Bogalusa Creek School) Bogue Loosa School - (Ward 5 - White) (Per newspaper) 2.8 miles southwest of Bogalusa at Ben's Ford. Bonner Creek School - (Ward ? - White) (Per Helen Buck) Located on what is now the Plainview Church. Was one of three small buildings. (Other two: Plainview and Isabel Schools) Booty School - (Ward 2 - White) Bouy Smith School - (Ward 5 - White) From Franklinton, approximately 5 miles toward Bogalusa on old Middle-Franklinton Hwy., around the area that is now the Bouy Smith Cemetery. Branch School - (Ward 5 - white) Midway between Stateline Church and Central Church. Brock School - (Ward 2 - Black) (Per Rayfus Martin) Located in the Mt. Hermon area. Bullock School (Ward 2 - White) Carter School - Began by Hardy Richardson. School was in the Sunny Hill community. The name of the school was changed to the Sunny Hill Academy in 1886/87. Center School - Central School - East of Pine. Hwy. 62, right on Central Church Road, near present Central Church. Choctaw Indian School - (Ward 3 - Indian/Black) (Per newspaper articles) School now located on T. W. Barker Drive and know as the present Franklinton Primary and Franklinton Adult Education Schools. This school's name was changed several times: Choctaw Indian School, Franklinton Hill, Washington Parish High School, Vocational Center Four, Franklinton Primary School. (Was also known at one time as the Washington Collegiate Institute) (SEE WASHINGTON COLLEGIEATE INSTITUTE) Choctaw School - (Ward 4 - White) Originally Choctaw Trail, after being straightened, the road was then called Hackley Road. School was on the roadside prior to and after 1893. Chrystal/Christal Springs School - (Ward 2 - Black) (Per Rayfus Martin) At Richardson (Hwy. 440), turn right, at or near site of presnt Chrystal Springs A.M.E. Church. Coburn's Creek School - (Ward 4 - White) Enon Community. Cooper's School - (Ward 4 - White) Southeast of present Choctaw Rd. and north of Thigpen Rd., near Tison Cemetery. Crain's Creek School - (Ward 5 - White) (Per Map) South of Hwy. 424, west of Crain's Creek Road. Eland/Elaud School - (Ward 2 - Black) Enon District School - (Ward 4 - White) (Per Dudley Fairburn) Old school burned and rebuilt on present site. (Per Helen Buck) Schol was near old railroad tracks at Zona. School established in 1888 or 1889. Faliah District School - (Ward 1 - White) (Per map) Left of Hwy. 25 near present Bonner Creek Church area. Franklinton Academy School - (Ward 3 - White) (Per newspaper articles) In 1838 school was located south of Mile Branch, near the Ellis Cemetery. This school burned in 1840. The school was rebuilt where what is now the Riverside Shopping Center parking lot. The school's name was changed to Professor Dixon's Academy. In 1892, the academy was destroyed. Another school, the Franklinton Central Institute was built. This location is now known as the Franklinton Elementary School. (SEE FRANKLINTON CENTRAL INSTITUTE.) Franklinton Central Institute School - (Ward 3 - White) Present day Elementery School located on Main Street in Franklinton. (SEE FRANKLINTON ACADEMY.) Franklinton Institute School - (Ward 3 White) name changed to the Franklinton High School, now known as the Franklinton Junior High School is located. Gabe Dillon School - (Ward 5 - Black) (School listed as Dillon on the 1905 school list.) Going School - (Ward 2 - White) (Per Margaret Williamson) From Mount Hermon toward Clifton: Hwy. 38, on right of hwy. property owner was Nannie Goings. (Per Mary McDaniel) Left at Clifton (Hwy. 38), 2 miles past Duncan Store on left, pass 3 or 4 houses (will be a brick house), will be on left of road in a field. Building now a dairy barn. Gorman District School - (Ward 1 - White) One mile west of Richardson on Hwy. 10, left of Hwy. School was previously known as Slocum Church School. Hackley School - (Ward 3 - White) (Per Ella Rogers) 3 1/2 miles above Lawrence Creek Church, was a three story building. (Per Frank Dillon, age 84) Were several Hackley Schools, one being Hackley Hwy., just before stop-sign, land now owned by Dewey and Frankie Thomas, mobile home now sitting on land that was school. Mr. Dillon states the above school (per Ella Rogers) was never a Hackley School. (Per newspaper article) at one time the school was located north of Hwy. 438. Hayes Chapel School - (Ward 3 - Black) In the Hayes/Hays Creek community. Hays Creek School - (Ward 3 - Black) (Per Rayfus Martin) From Franklinton, go to Clifton, turn right, school was near the area of the prewent white Hays Creek Church. Holden's Branch School - (Ward 4 - White) Holton Branch School - (Ward 3 - Black) Hurricane School - (Ward 3 - White) (Per Rayfus Martin) Hackely Hwy., on left corner as you turn onto Jammerson Creek Road. School got it's name when a hurricane tore the first school building down. This school was a red building. Isabel District School - (Ward 4 - Black) (Per Rayfus Martin) Between Enon and Bogalusa **School may have been located between Isabel and Bogalusa at old Log Camp by railroad tracks. (Check with Helen Buck.) Isabel School - (Ward 4 - White) (Per Helen Buck) Next Plainview Church. Was one of three small buildings. (Other two: Plainview and Bonner Creek Schools.) Jamerson/Mimmison/Jimmerson Creek Collegiate School - (Ward 3 - Black) (Per Rayfus Martin) From Franklinton, Hackley Hwy. turn left onto Jamerson Creek Road, cross Jamerson Creek Bridge, old site was on the right side of road. John Smith School - (Ward 3 - White) (Per map) Hwy. 25 north, right on Hwy. 438. East of present Star Hill Church on left side of highway. Johnson School - Principal was W. S. Thornhill. Between Hwys. 16 and 60. Jones Creek School - (Ward 5 - Black) (Per map) Northeast of Varnado, near present Washington Correctional Institute area. Knight's Branch School - (Ward 4 - White) (Per map) Right at Hwy. 10 on Hwy. 62. Right on Monroe Knight Road. Located in this vicinity. Lawrence Creek School - (Ward 3 - White) Located on the Lawrence Creek Cemetery Road, off Hwy. 436. Believed to be east of Lawrence Creek Church. Lee's Creek School - (Ward 4 - White) (Newspaper article) Known as Little Red School House and Mae's Academy. Built in 1887 on late John McElroy land, now known as Byrd Ave. in Richardsontown. Lee's Creek School - (Ward 4 - Black) (Per Rayfus Martin) Below Bogalusa, toward Sun. Line Graded School - (Ward 5 - White) hwy. 424 north, on state line of the La. and Miss. line. Road now known as Line Rd. Little Union School - Present Bogue Chitto Baptist Church is located in the Mt. Hermon area. Live Oak School - (Ward 5 - Black) Near Angie, off Hwy 438 on what is now Live Oak Road. Magee School - (Ward 3 - White) (Magee's Creek School) Built in 1852 by Pleas Magee. Located at old Half-Moon Bluff Baptist Church, approximately 2/3 miles south of Clifton, on left side of road. Magee's Creek School - Later known as the Bogue Chitto School. Near Stateline, La., close to the Miss. state line. Manning School - (Ward 3 - Black) Martin Knight Singing School - Established about 1895 at the Coburn Creek School, probably in the Enon community. McCain School - (Ward 3 - White) (Per J. C. Simmons) Near Bethel Church area. McMillan School - (Ward 5 - White) This Angie property was donated in 1907 by H. A. McMillan. In 1920's school was destroyed. This land was sold. Also in the 1920's other parces of land were purchased and another school was built. Military Road School - (Ward 5 - White) (Newspaper article) School was around the Ben's Ford area. (Map) School was located on Hwy. 436, left on Military Road, near Varnado. Miller Creek School - (Ward 3 - White) North of Plainview, Hwy. 439, near Miller's Branch/Creek. School was established about 1875. Monroe's Creek School - (Ward 5 - White) South side of Hwy. 438, between Pine and Varnado, turn right on Monroe's Creek Church Road. Mount Eabel/Ebal School - (Ward 2 - White) (Per Mary Magee McDaniel) Hwy. 1056, approximately four miles north of Richardson, on left side of Hwy. 1056. Mount Hermon School - (Ward 2 - White) (Per Margaret Williamson and newspaper articles) West of Hwy. 38, a short distance off highway near the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Property owned by Denman Ott. School burned and was rebuilt in 1928 on the present Mount Hermon School site. Mount Olive/Shady Grove School - Near Mt. Olive Road at Mt. Heron. Mount Point School - (Ward 2 - White) (Per Margaret Williamson) On the corner of G. T. Patterson Road and Webb Road. Mt. Sinai Church School - Established 1895-98 at Pine near Bogalusa Cree School, where A. C. Rogers family now lives on present Jim Stuart Road. New School - (Ward 3 - White) Oak Grove School - (Ward 2 - White) (Per Margaret Williamson) From Warnerton, Hwy. 438, 4.5 miles on left in a field now owned by Jerry Wascom. Otis School - (Ward 5 - White) Angie area. Peter's Creek School - (Ward 4 - Black) (Newspaper article) Just outside corporate city limits of Bogalusa, on Bogalusa-Varnado Hwy. (Hwy. 21). (Per Map) Northwest of Bogalusa, south of the Baughman community. Pine Ridge School - (Ward 1 - White) (Per Leo Seals, age 81) School was on the present site of Canaan Church. Pine Ridge School - (Ward 5 - White) (Map) Hwy. 16 (Amite Hwy.) between Sunlight Rd. and Kat Kaw Rd. Pine School - (Ward 5 - White) (Per Washington Parish History of Education Book by Sylvest an newspaper articles) This school was a short distance from the present site. In 1927 and 1928 was demolished. Using some of the same material, was reconstructed at the present site. On site where A. C. (Slick) Rogers lives onthe Jim Stuart Rd.) Plainview School - (Ward ? - White) (Per Helen Buck) Next to it was the now Plainview Church. Was one of three small buildings. (Other two: Bonner Creek and Isabel Schools.) Pleasant Valley School - (Ward 5 - White) Near Angie. Plummer Knight School - (Ward 5 - White) Hwy. 10, north of road between Sheridan (Hwy. 62) and Dollar Road, between Monroe Knight Road and Dollar Road. Poplar Head School - South of Hwy. 10 from Franklinton to Bogalusa, in present area of Poplar Head Church. Post Oak School - (Ward 1 - White) Richardson Branch School - (Ward 4 - White) (Per newspaper artice of history of Jenkins and Pinecliff communities) Near Jenkins community on Ben Richardson's old home, south of Bogalusa. Rio School - (Ward 4 - White) North corner of Hwy. 1074 and Hwy. 1075. Rocky Hill School - (Ward 5 - White) Sal's Branch School - (Ward 4 - White) Sandy Hollow School - (Ward 3 - White) Shady Grove/Mt. Olive School - Near Mt. Olive community at Mt. Hermon. (SEE MT. OLIVE SCHOOL.) Sheridan School - Original school was 2 miles from last site of the school, which was moved to the fork at Oak Grove Road and Middle Franklinton Hwy. Silver Hill School - (Ward 2 - Black) From Mt. Olive Church, go toward Mt. Hermon, school was near Hwy. 38 Slocum Church School - Name was later changed to Gorman School. South Franklinton School - (Ward 1) East of Hwy. 16, between Hwy. 16 and the old railroad tracks. South West/Southwest School - (Ward 1 - White) (Per Leo Seals, age 81) - Amite Hwy. (Hwy. 16), turn left at first crossroad, after passing Experiment Station Road. School on the right where present day Corkern Cemetery is now located. Spring Hill School - (Ward 4 - White) Hwy. 1072, located where present Spring Hill Church is located. Spring Valley School - Near Hwy. 60 and Hwy. 1072, in the area where the present Plainview Church is located Star Creek School - (Ward 3 - Black) (Per Rayfus Martin) Off Hwy. 25 on Star Creek Road. Land owned by Walter and Shirley Crain. East of Clifton-Warnerton area (per map) State Line School - (Ward 5 - White) (Per Map) Located near present State Line Church, off Hwy. 62, between Thomas and Angie. Stony Point School - (Ward 1 - White) (Per Leo Seals, age 81) Located on the present site of the Stony Point Church and Cemetery. Stovall's Academy - Established by Feb., 1876 by Rev. W. G. Stovall. Located 1 mile north of Franklinton, toward Tylertown. Sunlight School - Above Porter's Curve near Mt. Hermon, Hwy. 38. Sunny Hill Academy School - (Ward 2 - White) (Per Mary Magee McDaniel) Hwy. 440 to Junction. Right at store near parish line. Go to Sunny Hill community. School site is directly across highway from Sunny Hill Baptist Church. Established in 1877. School's original name was Carter School. Thomas School - (Ward 3 - White) (Per newspaper articles) Just north of the present day school site. Union School - (Ward 4 - White) (Per newspaper article) On the banks of Lee's Creek. School was known as Lee's Creek Church School and Little Burnt School Varnado School - (Ward 5 - White) Near present day school on Washington Street in Varnado Vernon School - (Ward 2 - Black)- (Per Rayfus Martin) At present school site. Approximately 2 miles off Hwy. 440, toward Sunny Hill. 8 miles west of Franklinton on Hwy. 440 Warner School - (Ward 3 - White) (This school is believed to be the same as Warnerton) The "ton" was added, when Franklin also added the "ton". Warnerton School - (Ward 3 - White) Hwy. 25 to Warnerton. Right of Hwy. 25, just before Junction of Hwy. 25 and Hwy. 438. Washington Collegiate Institute - (Ward 3 - Black) Located on T. W. Barker Drive. (SEE CHOCTAW INDIAN SCHOOL.) Wesley Ray School - (Ward 5 - Black) (Per Rayfus Martin) Located on present school site on Wesley Ray Road. Whits Creek School - (Ward 5 - White) Wilson School - (Ward 3 - Black) Between Old Columbia Road and Harvey Road, Wilson Road is present today. Winding Chapel School - (Ward 3 - Black) May be Wynan Church School. Youngblood School - (Ward 2 - Black) Zona District School - (Ward 4 - Black) West of Franklinton, off Hwy. 16.
