He was born and reared in Washington Parish, and the eldest son of the late Sheriff Henry Burkhalter, and the last in the family of 6 children. He married 36 years ago to Ada Pierce. They had 5 children, 4 surviving, Mrs. John Bickham, A.D. Burkhalter, Miss James Henri and Lottis Lloyd Burkhalter, all of Franklinton. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. -- Cloyce Simmons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Simmons of Mt. Hermon, married in Tylertown on September 16th, to Dorothy Stewart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Stewart of Bogalusa. -- George McNeese married last Friday in Bassfield, to Ruby Dormady of Rochester, Minn. -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Wendell LeBlanc, a 7 pound daughter. -- Alford Luper, 74 years old, died at his home 4 miles east of Franklinton on Sunday. Vol Brock. -- J.H. Moore died Saturday at his home in Baton Rouge. He was son of the late Mr. M.M. Moore and Mrs. Moore of this town. The body was brought back here for burial. Interment was in the Thomas cemetery. He is survived by a large family, 1 daughter being Mrs. R.C. Delaughter of this place. -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Powell of Hattiesburg last Wednesday, a girl. The mother was formerly of this community, Pearl Knight. -- 11-10-1938 A.T. Goings, former resident of Washington Parish, died at her home IN Doyle, Monday. Interment was in the Sunny Hill cemetery. She had been living in Sweetwater, Tx. For the last several years. Mrs. Penton was the wife of Joe Penton, who died about 5 years ago. -- Married October 27th, Clifford Alford, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Alford, to Ellawena Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Miller, all of Mt. Hermon. -- Married December 3rd, Melba O'Bryant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elisha O'Bryant, to R.B. Miller, all of Mt. Hermon. -- Mrs. Clara J. Simmons, aged 83 years, 7 months, and 8 days, died December 7th. She was the widow of the late J.N. Simmons, who died several years ago. Survivors are their 10 children: 6 sons, A.M. of Bogalusa, J.O. and C.C. of Franklinton, L.J. of Columbia, and R.E. and Lloyd Simmons of Birmingham, Ala.; 4 daughters, Mrs. Larcy Sturdivant of Ruston, Mrs. F.E. McElwee of Bogalusa on Christmas Eve, a girl. -- Mrs. Florence Self Burch, wife of E.F. Burch, died December 23rd, at age 69 years. Survivors are her husband, 4 sons, Wilmer Deason of Baytown, Tx., Murrell of Houston, Tx., and R.R. Burch of Franklinton; 6 daughters, Mrs. M.I. Fisher of Franklinton, Mrs. E.F. Bacon of New Orleans, Mrs. Maude Passman of Jackson, La., Mrs. I.N. Glover of Bogalusa, and Mrs. J.I. Davis of Tylertown, 24 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 brother. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. -- Married Saturday, Dorothy Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aurelian Rousselle, to James M. Williams. -- Married Sunday in Angie, Dolly Robbins to Joseph Eubanks.
