Burial was in the Nobles cemetery. -- Miss Julia Mae Mason, Bogalusa High School teacher, died at her home in Lee's Creek, last Thursday. She was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Mason. -- Mrs. Beldon Williams at Lee's Creek, died and the funeral was Monday. -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Magee of Bogalusa on January 18th, a 6 pound son, Joseph Leonard. Robbie was 26 years old, and Lou Ethel was 22 years old. -- Harvey McElveen died Wednesday in a New Orleans hospital. -- Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Magee was called to Magnolia Monday by the death of Mrs. Magee's nephew, Kenneth Dennison, 16 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Dennison, who was killed by a falling tree. -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McGeever of Covington, a 9 pound son on February 14th. -- James H. Ratchliff, age 67 years, died February 9th. Interment was in the Morris cemetery. Survivors are his wife, 2 daughters, and 2 sons, and a number of grandchiddren. Causey were called to Jackson, Miss., Monday, by the sudden death of Mrs. Causey's brother, Mr. Pate. -- Mrs. Dixie K. Varnado, 72 years old, and a native of Washington Parish, died Tuesday. She was the widow of the late Charles L. Varnado, who passed away 5 months ago, and was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. George W. Varnado. Interment was in the Varnado cemetery. Survivors are 1 son, George Varnado of Franklinton; 3 daughters, Mrs. M.I. Varnado of Bogalusa; Mrs. Minnie Hinson of Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Willie Welch of Franklinton; also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren surviving. One sister, Mrs. Rosa Johnson, also survives. -- Mrs. Maude Fortenberry McMillan, wife of Luther S. McMillan, died in a New Orleans hospital Wednesday. Interment was in the Mt. Hermon cemetery. She was born 9-30-1888, and married her husband on 2-11-1912. They had 6 children, who with her husband, brother, Hon. I.N. Fortenberry, 1 half sister, Mrs. Luther M. She was twice married, her first being Dr. Hill. They had 4 children, Mrs. Clara Neilson, Rena and Susie Hill, who live with their mother, and Charles Hill of Bogalusa. She was 71 years old. -- Married Friday, Monroe Simmons to Mima Foil. -- 03-09-1939 Born February 18th to District Judge and Mrs. Robert D. Jones, an 8 1/2 pound daughter. -- Louis Pererand of Covington died at the home of his daughter, in Baton Rouge last Thursday. He was a former resident of this parish. -- Mrs. O.E. Corkern of Bogalusa died Friday. Funeral services wer held Sunday near her old home near Biloxi. -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hester of Plaquemine, a week ago, a daughter, Priscilla Kay. -- 03-16-1939 W.L. (Bill) Creel, aged 69 years, and a native of Washington Parish, but for the past few years made his home with his daughter, Mrs. W.O. McDaniel in Tangipahoa, died March 13th. Interment was in the Fisher Church cemetery. Survivors are 3 sons, Houston and Arlie of the Bethel community; 3 daughters, Mrs. W.O. McDaniel and Tom McDaniel of Stony Point, and Mrs. Magee of Baton Rouge; 1 brother Narvel Creel of Bogalusa, and 2 sisters, Mrs. W.W. McMillian went to Vicksburg, Ms., Monday to attend the funeral of his nephew, George Edward McMillian, who was killed Saturday in an airplane crash. -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Mizell of north Franklinton, on March 26th, an 8 pound son, Cleve Larry. The mother was formerly Mary Alice Stringfield. -- Mr. Oliver Wager of Jennings, mother died. -- 04-06-1939 Mrs. Ruth Bateman, wife of the late E.A. Bateman, who died 3 years ago, died April 1st, at age 67 years. Survivors are her 2 children, 1 surviving, Robert H. Sanders of the Woodruff Funeral Home, a daughter. A call from Clarks, La., the former home of Mrs. Sanders, conveyed the sad news of the death of her mother, who left a 3 week old infant. -- Milford George Carrier of New Orleans, nephew of A. Carriere, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Maude Petey of New Orleans, Monday, at age 37 years. The remains were brought back to the old home burial ground at Hennesy cemetery. Survivors are his son, James Carriere, 4 brothers, Gilbert, Frank, Victor, and Earl Carriere, 3 sisters, Mrs. Maude Petey of New Orleans, Mrs. Parl Henley of Picayune, and Mrs. J.C. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wood, and was married in early life to A.W. Daniel, a Confederate War Veteran, who preceded her to the grave by 23 years. Survivors are her 9 children, Jim Daniel, and Tera Daniel in the home, Mrs. Viola Simmons, Mrs. Henry Daniel, Tebo Daniel, John Daniel, all of Franklinton, W.J. Hermon, shot and killed his wife while she lay in bed. He claimed it was an accident. -- Mr. and Mrs. John M. Ott attended the funeral of Mrs. Ott's grandmother, today. She died yesterday and was buried in the Bunker Hill Baptist Church cemetery. -- Mrs. W.D. Magee died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruby Shoemaker on Tuesday, at age 72 years.
