Burial was in the Thomas cemetery. -- The 15 day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thomas died January 10th. Burial was in the Thomas cemetery. -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Millard Spring of Alexandria, on January 14th, a 7 pound boy, Rheuble Armand. -- McCauley I. Varnado, native of Washington Parish and son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Varnado, died at his home in Bogalusa on January 14th. He was born in Franklinton in 1880. Survivors are his widow and 8 children, M.I., Jr., Charley, Devon, and Jesse Paul Varnado, Misses Thelma and Katherine Varnado, all of Bogalusa, Mrs. Dixie Branch of Dexter; 4 grandchildren; 11 brothers and sisters, who are D.A., W.W., George, W.H.N. Interment was in the Varnado cemetery. -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. B.O. Miller on January 9th, a 9 pound girl, Clara Hellen. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Willie Rankin of Sandy Hook. -- 01-25-1940 Wes Johnson, 65 years of age, and farmer of the second ward, was found dead in his bed Tuesday of a heart attack. Survivors are his wife, 8 children, 3 daughters and 5 sons. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. -- Dr. Thomas C.W. Ellis, 72 years of age, and native of Amite, died at his residence in New Orleans. Burial was in Amite. -- W. Plummer Knight, 82 years of age, died January 20th, at his home near Sheridan. Interment was in the Boughman cemetery. Survivors are his 5 children, George and Early Knight, Mrs. Nancy McNeese, Mrs. Delia Tullos, and Mrs. Lillie Seal, and a large number of grandchildren, 2 brothers, R.W. and Kenzie Knight. -- Mrs. Corrine Schilling, widow of the late Peter A. Schilling of Mt. Hermon, died. -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Power on January 22nd, a son, Edward Alvin Jr. -- Mrs. Bessie Wood of Hattiesburg and sister of Mrs. J.A. Sandifer of this place, died Sunday, at age 34 years. Survivors ar her mother, 6 sisters and 3 brothers. -- 02-01-1940 Mrs. Lizzie Boone, 80 years of age, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Smith of Varnado, last Monday. Oscar Brumfield, native of Washington Parish, died February 3rd, at age 67 years. He married 43 years ago to Lizzie Jenkins, who with 2 children survive, Hebert S. of DeRidder and R. Robert Brumfield of Franklinton, 3 grandchildren, 1 sister, Mrs. John D. Wood of Franklinton, 2 brothers, Robert H. of Franklinton and Clifford B. Brumfield of Bogue Chitto, Ms. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. -- Born February 5th to Mr. and Mrs. Emile Q. Wood, a 7 1/2 pound son, Robert Love Wood. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John M. Love, and Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Wood. -- Born January 30th at Clarkville, Tn. to Mr. and Mrs. Oblin St. Cyr, a daughter, Georgia. Lee. -- 02-15-1940 Mrs. Julia Leggett Simmons, widow of the late Sam Simmons, died at her home near Walker's Bridge last Friday. Interment was in the family cemetery. She was 76 years of age and leaves 1 brother, Hon. W.W. Leggett of Magnolia, 2 sisters, Mrs. E.W. Ott of Mt. Hermon, and Mrs. James Garner of Magnolia, and 1 daughter, Mrs. Arthur Flippins. -- Mrs. Joseph A. Smith, 94 years of age and of Poplarville, mother of Fred W. Smith of this place, died Friday. Sylvest, and a brother-in-law of Sheriff J.L. Brock. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Dora Brock Knight and 1 son, Shelton Knight. -- Rudy Mitchell, a resident of Bogalusam, died February 10th of pneumonia. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Veta Mitchell and 4 children. Burial was in the Bogalusa cemetery. -- Mrs. Senith Tullos, wife of the late Monroe Tullos, and resident of Varnado, died February 10th. He was 19 years of age, and born raised in Mt. Hermon. -- Jake Varnado, 34 years of age, of Stony Point died of a selfinflicted gun shot wound in his chest on March 14th. Survivors are his widow, 3 children, and he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Varnado. Burial was in Stony Point. -- Married March 16th, Gaynell Marsh, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Carl Marsh, to Roy McCain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Murphy McCain. -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Johnston of North Franklinton March 13th, a daughter. -- James M. Burial was at the Magee cemetery at Spring Hill. She was the daughter of the late Rafe and Angeline Miller, and was 73 years, 7 months, and 20 days of age. Survivors are her 9 children, 27 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. C.C. Miller of Bogalusa died Wednesday at age 40 years. She was the daughter of Mrs. John C. Bateman, and was born in Franklinton. Bickham was called to McComb Monday by the death of her brother- in-law, Otis Lenoir, who died Monday. Interment was in the McComb cemetery. -- W.I.
