Interment was made in the Morris cemetery. He is survived by his widow and one son, T. D. Gillespie, Jr. and two sisters, Mrs. Nat Gray and Mrs. Parker. Alford, Wanda. Death came on December 12th, 1940, terminating the earthly stay of 17 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Alford, who lived near Bogue Chitto church. Fussell, Henry T. He died at his home in north Franklinton on December 24th, 1940. Interment was made in the Alford cemetery. He was a native of Washington Parish. Survivors are his widow and six children, Ruffen, Howard, H.H. and June Fussell and Mrs. E. S. Alford and Mrs. H. B. Alford. 1-9-1941 Pace, Warren J. Funeral services for Warren J. Pace, 20 year old private attached to Company C. 8th Infantry at Fort Benning, Ga., who was found slain on a highway 7 miles from Manchester, Ga., Saturday morning were conducted from the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Davis Pace, in the Pine community Wednesday afternoon. Interment was made in the family cemetery. Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Winfred and one sister, Katie Lou. He was raised in the Pine community. Brumfield, Louis L. He was of the Hayes Creek community and died at his home Tuesday morning. Interment was made in the Brumfield cemetery near his home. He was 77 years of age. Survivors are his wife and four daughters, Mrs. J. O. Foil, Mrs. Altha James, Mrs. Lillie Passman and Mrs. Warren Branch and five sons, Vernon, John, Fate, Maxwell and Jones Brumfield, one brother, Mark B. Brumfield and one sister, Mrs. Jas Stafford. Foil, Thomas D. He died January 7th, at his residence two miles north of Franklinton, at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 27 days. Interment was in the Stringfield cemetery. He was a pioneer citizen of Washington Parish. Survivors are his widow, the former Lena Baham, 8 children, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and one brother. Gatlin, Mit. Age 50 died last Wednesday morning in Bogalusa. He was a former resident of Franklinton. Green, Claude. He was shot and killed by Mit Gatlin at F. M. Harrison’s store in Bogalusa on Wednesday. 1-16-1941 Magee, Clotilde Wood. She was the wife of the late Robert D. Magee. She was 82 years, 9 months and 11 days. She is the eldest daughter of the late John R. Wood. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. Survivors are 8 children, Jesse, Robt. D., Mrs. O. Simmons, Mrs. O. H. Carter, Stella Magee, Mrs. W. J. Willoughby and Mrs. John Mullings, 3 brothers, 1 sister and 10 grandchildren. 1-23-1941 Marriage License: White: Cecil Tucker Daniel, Franklinton, to Thelma Whitley, Merryville, La. Colored: Easley Brister to Nellie Robertson, Hackley. Nead Anders, Clifton to Hettie Miller, Mt. Hermon. Stafford, Infant. The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Stafford died on January 25th. Interment was in the Bonner Creek cemetery. Snell, Charles Edward. He was of the Mt. Hermon community and died at his home last Friday. Burial was in the Mt. Hermon cemetery. He was the son of L. D. and Mandy Ott Snell and was born April 13, 1867. He was married first to Doris Dykes. They had three children. His second wife was Helen Norris. They had 4 children. He has 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 2 brothers who survive. Holton, Henry Irwin. He was 68 years old and of Holton, La. He died Tuesday morning at his home. Interment was in the Friendship cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Emma Bahm Holton, 3 sons, 4 daughters, 1 sister and 26 grandchildren. Brumfield, Winnie Sylvest. She was age 66 years, of Bogalusa and widow of the late Seymour Brumfield, died Wednesday night. She was a native of Washington Parish and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Sylvest. Interment was in the Bethel cemetery. She is survived by 9 children. Lee, James E. He died at age 72 years, 7 months and 4 days, at his home near Wilmer in Tangipahoa parish on January 22. Survivors are his widow and 10 children. Colored: Maxie Foster to Mary Morris, Varnado; J. P. Tate to Lucy May Davis, Enon; Eddie Watson, Sunny Hill to Mavis Vernon, Mt. Hermon. Moore, Johnny. Funeral services for Johnny Moore, 74 year old citizen of the 7th ward, who died at his home, were conducted Tuesday at the State Line church. Interment was in Crain cemetery. Green, Isaac J. He was 72 years old and from the Enon community. He died Monday morning. Interment was in the Enon cemetery. He was a native and life-long resident of the Enon community. Survivors are his widow, 7 children, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. 2-13-1941 Parker, Little B. He was 100 years old and a veteran of the Civil War. He died Tuesday at the home of his grandson, Fred Allen, in the 1st ward. Funeral services were held at Oak Grove Cemetery, east of Carrier, Miss. Survivors are 3 daughters, 36 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren and 36 great, great grandchildren and 6 great, great, great grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death by 14 years. Cutrer, Omer. He died at the New Orleans hospital on Friday. Funeral services were held at Silver Springs Baptist Church in Mississippi. Survivors are his wife and 9 children. Robison, James Mackey. Age 71 years, died at his home in Bogalusa. Survivors are his widow, Laura K. Robison and 1 child. Interment was in the Wallace cemetery. 2-20-1941 Moore, Benjamin F. He died Saturday in Sun, at age 66. Survivors are his widow, Iva Moore. 2-27-1941 Marriage License: Bill Caves, Bogalusa to Agnes Ella Corkern, Franklinton; Daniel Carroll to Dollie Adams, Varnado; Arthur Thigpen to Eloice Ruby McNeece, Bogalusa. 3-6-1941 Passman, Louella. Age 59 died last Friday in a New Orleans hospital. Interment was in Bonner Creek cemetery. She was the wife of the late David Passman. Survivors are 6 children. Branch, Merle Emily. 37 year old died Tuesday at her home near Pine. Survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Branch, 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Interment was in Crain’s Creek cemetery. Fortenberry, Mrs. Tommie. She died at her home near Silver Springs last Saturday. Burial was in Silver Springs cemetery. She was 72 years of age. McDaniel, William Murry. Age 70, died at his home in north Franklinton on February 16th. Interment was in the Silver Springs Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, 2 daughters and 1 son. 3-13-1941 O’Berry, Jessie. He was killed in an automobile accident on March 8th. 3-20-1941 Jones, Whit. He died March 21 at the home of Dr. Stafford. He was 77 years old. Survivors are 6 children, 20 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and 2 brothers. Tillman, Effie Ott. She was the wife of A. J. Tillman of McComb, died at her home Sunday. Survivors are her husband, 2 adopted children and 4 sisters. O’Berry, Jessie. He was killed in an automobile accident on March 8th. 3-27-1941 None 4-3-1941 Fisher, Thomas Adnell. He was a native of Washington Parish and died March 27th at the age of 54 years. He was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George A. Fisher. Survivors are his wife, Carrie Stevens Fisher, 1 daughter, 3 sons, 1 grandchild and 2 sisters. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. 4-10-1941 Crain, Ollie. He was age 55 and a resident of the State Line community and died at the Bogalusa hospital last Tuesday. Burial was in the Crain cemetery near his home. Survivors are a brother. Simmons, Ophia. She was the widow of the late Steve Simmons of the Sheridan community. She died Sunday at the home of her daughter. She was buried at the family cemetery at Sheridan. Survivors are a son, 2 daughters and 10 grandchildren. Morris, Oscar. He was a pioneer resident of Mt. Hermon and was buried in the family cemetery near his home. He was born at the old Morris homestead near Mt. Hermon on May 25, 1860. His wife was the former Hester Ann Stringfield, who died in 1917. Survivors are 3 sons, 3 daughters, 2 brothers, 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. 4-17-1941 Brown, Laura Bickham. She died Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter in the Fisher community. She was 88 years old. She was the widow of Frank M. Brown. Survivors are 2 daughters and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment was in the Bickham cemetery near their old home. 4-24-1941 Bickham, Mrs. Louis P. She died Friday night at the age of 63. Funeral services were held at Mt. Pisgah Baptist church. Survivors are her husband, 2 sons, 5 daughters, her aged father, Sandy Brock and a number of brothers and sisters. 5-1-1941 Miller, Mrs. Lozane Strahan. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Neal Strahan, wife of M. Pink Miller, died Thursday and was buried in the Mt. Pisgah church cemetery. Norris, Mrs. Mary. She died in a McComb hospital last Friday and was buried in the Mt. Hermon cemetery. She was 86 years old. Schilling, Judge Alfred M. He died in New Orleans yesterday. Interment was in the Mt. Hermon cemetery. Brumfield, George O. He was 63 and died at the Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. Burial was in the Bethel cemetery. Survivors are his wife, the former Tella Sylvest, 2 sons and 1 daughter. Lenoir, Ethel Guy. Funeral services were held in McComb, where she was from. She was 54 years old and was born in Lincoln County. Survivors are her father, Hamilton Smith, 3 sons, 2 step-sons, 4 sisters and 5 brothers. 5-8-1941 Erwin, Thomas B. He was age 84 years, 5 months and 23 days old. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Angeline Varnado Erwin, 1 son, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 sister and 1 brother. 5-15-1941 Schilling, Alfred Monroe. He died 4-27-1941 and was born 12-20-1877, and was the son of Murry Schilling and the late Melissa Ellzey Schilling. He was married twice, first to Evie Schilling on 2-2-1903 and had 1 child. On 12-2-1917, he married Elma Miller and had 3 children. Burial was in the Mt. Hermon cemetery. 5-22-1941 Morris, Dorsey. He died at a hospital in McComb on 5-8-1941. He was born on 10-11-1892 and was the son of Melton Morris. On 12-24-1914, he married Margie Miller and had 3 daughters and one son. 5-29-1941 Schilling, Saphrona “Fronie”. She was born in 1854. She lived to be 87 and never married. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Schilling. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. Penny, Charles Abner. He died Thursday night in the Sunlight community. Interment was in the Sunlight cemetery. He was married about 62 years to Mary Roberts. They had several children. Magee, John Talmadge. The funeral took place last Thursday in Lake Charles. He was born in Franklinton and was a World War Veteran. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Magee. Survivors are his wife, Iris McCain Magee, 3 brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Orange Grove cemetery. Smith, Mrs. W. C. She was age 52 and of Bogalusa. Sweeney, Jimmy. He was the 11 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sweeney of Chicago, Illinois. He died Saturday night when hit by a train. 6-5-1941 Magee, Mrs. Martina Graves. On June 4th, 1941, Mrs. Magee, wife of Marcus F. Magee, died at the age of 79 years at her home north of Franklinton. Survivors are her husband and 5 children. Brumfield, Henry. He died at his home in Amite last Friday. Funeral services were held in Amite. 6-12-1941 Chaney, William R. He died Saturday in White Castle. He was 93 and the oldest citizen in East Feliciana parish. Interment was in Bluff Creek. Survivors are 2 sons, 2 daughters and a number of grandchildren. 6-19-1941 McDonald, Wilson. Age 19 was killed Saturday night in Varnado. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles McDonald of Dallas, Texas. Survivors are his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters and his grandmother. Burial was in the Rester cemetery. Moody, Nathaniel. Age 21 of Varnado died Saturday night. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Moody. Survivors are his parents and 3 sisters. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers. Burial was at State Line. Freeman, Jewel. Age 28 of Varnado died Saturday night. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Freeman. Survivors are his parents, 1 sister and 1 brother. Burial was at Pine. Sigrest, Leon. Age 16 of Varnado died Saturday night. He is the youngest son of Mr. J. H. Sigrest. Fussell, Mrs. Delma. She died Saturday morning at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Bateman. Survivors are her parents, husband, 3 small children, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Interment was in the Fisher cemetery. 6-26-1941 None 7-3-1941 Bradley, James R. Age 70 of St. Tammany was killed Sunday morning. Interment was in the Covington cemetery. Survivors are his daughter and 7 sons. Ginn, O. S., Jr. The little son of Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Ginn, Sr. drowned last week. Dillon, child. The young child of Mr. and Mrs. Lucious Dillon drowned last week. 7-10-1941 Magee, Mrs. A. E. “Sweetie”. She passed away at her home in Lake Charles on Monday. 7-17-1941 Byrd, Mrs. Rosa. She was the widow of the late L. P. Byrd of Bogalusa. She died Tuesday at age 75 years. Funeral services were held at the old family cemetery at Rio. Survivors are 1 daughter, 8 sons and 1 sister. 7-31-1941 Jones, Lorah. She died Saturday. Survivors are her husband, 5 children, her mother, Mrs. Kinch Mizell, 1 sister and 7 brothers. Funeral services were held at Enon Baptist church. 8-7-1941 Stephen, Ike. He died last Wednesday night. Funeral services were conducted in the Pleasant Hill Baptist church. He was born in Lawrence County, Mississippi and moved to Louisiana with his father, John Stephen, when a boy. He was about 75 years of age. Survivors are 2 sons and 1 daughter. Pittman, David. He died August 5th. Survivors are his wife and 4 children. Funeral services were held at Enon. 8-14-1941 Seal, Emily. Age 68 and widow of the late Jack Seal passed away August 11th in a New Orleans hospital. Survivors are 4 daughters and 2 sons. Burial was in the Seal cemetery, one mile west of Varnado. Bateman, F. O. Burial of Mr. Bateman was held Sunday. 8-21-1941 Shoemaker, Mrs. A. S. She was 76 years old and a native of Washington Parish, a resident of the 6th ward. She died at her home 3 miles south of Franklinton early Tuesday. She was the widow of the late A. S. Shoemaker. Funeral services were held at the Spring Hill Baptist church. Survivors are two sons and 8 daughters. Brown, Jacob &. He died August 14th at age 71 years. He was born in the Mt. Hermon community. Burial was in the Silver Springs cemetery. Survivors are 10 children, 46 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. 8-28-1941 Wilcombe, Adrian I., Jr. A brief message was sent over the wires early August 12th to Hammond. Regret to inform you that your son was killed in an airplane crash in the vicinity of Virginia Beach, Virginia on August 11th. The plane was seen to crash in ocean and recovery has not been possible. Survivors are his mother, Dora Maude Johnson Wilcombe and his father, bearing the same name. He was an only child. Simmons, Mrs. Jeff. She was of Tylertown and died at her home Tuesday. Doughdrill, Al. He was of Mobile, Alabama. He died Saturday and was a former resident of this place. 9-4-1941 Wallace, Marvin. 43 year old pioneering dairy leader of the First Ward, died September 2nd at his home. Interment was in the Sunlight church cemetery. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Wallace, his widow and 4 children. Blackwell, James L. He was 68 years old and resided south of Bogalusa was fatally injured Sunday night. He was a native of Washington Parish and is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha Blackwell, 6 sons and 4 daughters. Bateman, F. O. He died 8-9-1941. He was President of the School Board. Sadd, Augusta A. He was age 73 and died August 31st at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Simmons in the First War. He was a native of England. He had no relatives in this country and only one sister in England. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. Magee, Mrs. R. E. 70 year old Mrs. Magee died at her home near Enon on August 31st. She was a daughter of the late Eldridge Magee. 9-11-1941 Magee, Wiley. 48 years old, Mr. Wiley died at E.S.M. hospital in Bogalusa on Thursday night. Survivors are his wife, 2 daughters and 2 sisters. Funeral services were held at the Enon Baptist church. Crook, Mrs. Irene. Age 42 and a worthy matron of the Jessamine chapter of the order of Eastern Star, Bogalusa, died at the Bogalusa hospital on Tuesday. Funeral services were held at the E. S. M. Methodist church. Alford, Mrs. J. A. She died at the Baptist hospital on September 5th. Her husband, Rev. J. A. Alford is a former pastor of the Franklinton Methodist church. 9-18-1941 Denman, Dr. James C. Age 65, he died in an automobile accident at Leland, near Greenville, MS on Sept. 13th. Interment was in Ellis cemetery. He was the son of J. E. and Amanda Marsile Denman. Survivors are 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 4 brothers and sisters. Denman, Mrs. James C. (Lelia Fortenberry). Age 63, she died in an automobile accident at Leland, near Greenville, MS on September 13th. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. She was the daughter of W. J. and Canolia Ann Simmons Fortenberry. Survivors are 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 8 brothers and sisters. 9-25-1941 Fisher, Thomas B. He was age 65 and a resident of the First Ward, where he was born and reared. He died at a New Orleans hospital on September 19th. Survivors are his widow and 9 children. Interment was in the Bonner Creek cemetery. Wilcombe, Adrian I., Jr. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the First Baptist church in Hammond. Lieutenant Wilcombe was lost at sea on the night of August 11th while on an observation flight from Langley Field, VA. His body was found Saturday afternoon when it washed ashore near Virginia Beach. Nobles, Mrs. Gabe. A life-long resident of Pine, died in Bogalusa last Tuesday, where she had been living the past few months. She was 83 years old. Interment was in the family cemetery at Pine. Singley, John. Age 55 and prominent farmer died Thursday. He leaves his wife, Olevia Singley, 2 sons, 3 daughters, 3 grandchildren and 4 brothers. Burial was in the Angie cemetery. Seaborn, Dalphine. She was 91 years of age and from Hammond. The body was shipped to Forrest City, Arkansas, her girlhood home, where burial was held on Tuesday. 10-2-1941 Parker, Eldora. 72 year old wife of Charles Parker died Tuesday at E. S. M. hospital. Interment was in the Morris cemetery. Survivors are her husband, 3 sons, 4 daughters and a number of grandchildren. 10-9-1941 Dale, Joseph. Age 70 and publisher of the Lawrence County Press, died. Funeral services were held at the Monticello Baptist church. 10-16-1941 Spring, Glaris. 69 year old life-long Washington Parish resident died Saturday at the Magnolia hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Yates Spring. He was survived by 5 daughters, 4 grandchildren and 2 brothers. Interment was in the Edwards cemetery near the old Spring homestead. Passman, J. M. He died September 13th at his home in Cleveland, Tenn. He was 39 years, 3 months and 23 days of age and a former resident of this parish. Survivors are his wife, Leavena Wales Passman, 2 sons, 2 daughters, his mother, Orpha Passman, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Interment was in Fort Hill cemetery in Cleveland, Tenn. 10-23-1941 Talley, Bascom D. Age 57 of Bogalusa died at E.S.M. hospital in Bogalusa. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Morris Hamilton Talley and was born on Shady Grove Plantation, north of Bogalusa. Survivors are his wife, Maude Gentry Talley, 1 son and 1 daughter. Ellzey, Harrison. He died in truck accident near Mt. Hermon on Monday. Morrison, William J. Age 56 of the Enon community died October 22. He was born and reared in Carr, Florida. Interment was in the Enon cemetery with Masonic services at the grave. Survivors are his wife, Pearl Morrison, 4 children, 1 brother and 2 sisters. 10-30-1941 None 11-6-1941 Fussell, John M. He died November 4th. He was a descendant of the late Jamerson Fussell and was married to Ella Knight almost 50 years. To this union 13 children were born, 10 surviving with his widow, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and a large number of grandchildren. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. 11-13-1941 Brumfield, George L. He died November 9th. He was born and reared in this parish, being a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Brumfield. He was married to Myease Green 41 years ago and to this union 4 children were born, who survive with his widow. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. 11-20-1941 Edwards, Lucy Garrett. Age 63 died November 14th at a New Orleans hospital. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Garrett. Interment was in the Burkhalter cemetery. Survivors are 3 children, 1 brother and 1 sister. 11-27-1941 Wilson, Clarence. He died November 21st in Aberdeen, Washington at age 76 years. He was a brother of Mrs. M. J. Magee. He was a former resident of Washington Parish. Survivors are his wife, 4 children, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Strahan, Wiley S. 72 years old and a pioneer resident of Washington parish died at the Bogalusa hospital on Saturday. Interment was in the Strahan cemetery. Survivors are 8 children. 12-4-1941 Brumfield, Max Gerald. The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Brumfield, who was born on November 20th and died November 31st in the Tylertown hospital. Burial was in the Brumfield cemetery. Lampton, J. H. The funeral of Mt. Lampton at Tylertown was held on Wednesday. He resided at Magee, Mississippi. 12-11-1941 Daigle, Charles. He died Sunday at his home at Port Allen, at the age of 70 years. A daughter, Mrs. Roy Saxon lives here. Gayer, Alice Yates. She was the wife of Herman E. Gayer of Hemphill, TX. She was born and reared in this parish. Interment will be held here. Survivors are her husband, 2 children, 2 brothers and 1 sister. 12-18-1941 Scarborough, J. J. 87 years old and of Poplarville died. Interment was in the Poplarville cemetery on Monday. Mizell, Ruthie Mae. 7 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Mizll died north of Franklinton on Tuesday morning. Interment was in the Mizell cemetery. Survivors are her parents and 7 sisters and brothers. 12-25-1941 Crain, Jesse Reeves. He was the son of Jesse E. Crain and Emma Foil Crain of Daisetta, Texas, formerly of Washington parish. He was among the victims of the Japanese blow at Pearl Harbor on December 7th. He was 25 and a First Class Fireman in the U. S. Navy. 1-1-1942 Byrnes, Martyn J. He was 61 and a former Bogalusa newspaperman. He died at his home in Poplar Bluff, MO, last Sunday. Interment was in the Ponemah cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Vera Byrnes, a daughter, 2 step-children and a number of other relatives. 1-8-1942 Wood, J. E. (Bud). Age 69 and of Amite, formerly of Washington Parish, met a tragic death last Thursday when hit by a passing train while riding in an automobile. Mrs. George O. Sanders, another occupant of the car was also instantly killed. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John R. Wood and is survived his wife and 4 children, 2 brothers and 1 sister. L. Glover of Bogalusa were notified of the death of their 21 year old son, who was a sailor located in Australia at the time of his death. He was killed by a train. He was the grandson of Mrs. O. A. Hart received a message from the Navy Department on Sunday that he was performing his duty in the service of his country in the Manila Bay area, when that station captivated. He will be carried on the records of the Navy Department as missing pending further information. No report of his death or injury has been received and he may be a prisoner of war. He is the son of the late B. C. Hart and Mrs. Alice Bickham Hart and a grandson of Mrs. T. D. Bickham. He was born in Franklinton. Dixon, Hon. Columbus C. He was a citizen of Mt. Hermon and died in the Tylertown hospital last Tuesday. He was born in Tangipahoa parish on 9-1-1872 and moved to Mt. Hermon when a boy. On December 15, 1893 he married Melis A. Miller. No children were born to this union, but they raised four orphan children. Packer, Mrs. W. G. She died at her home near Roseland last Wednesday. She was the former Addie Stafford. He was born May 17th, 1876 and was 66 years of age and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Smith, pioneer citizens of Pike County. He married Sarah Simmons Alford 35 years ago. He was sentenced to be electrocuted Wednesday at the Walthall county courthouse in Tylertown. Foil, William P. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Foil of Bogalusa received word that their only son, Lt. William P. Foil had been killed in the Central Pacific on July 26th. He was 25 years of age and was born in Franklinton. He was a 52 year old Indian-born lawyer and died in Lenox Hill hospital in New York on Sunday. Survivors are a wife and child. Conn, Ida Bates. She was the 25 year old wife of Pvt. Edward Conn of Camp Van Dorn, MS and was found in the woods off Hwy. 24, 8 miles east of Tylertown. She was stabbed to death. 10-19-1944 Smith, Private Doyle. Word was received of the 20 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Smith of the Clifton community. He was reported killed in action in France on September 27th. Survivors are his parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. Graves, Ensign Leroy. He was killed in action while aboard the LST boat during the initial invasion of France on June 9th. Memorial services were held at the First Baptist church on October 22nd. He is buried in the American National cemetery in England. Sylvest, Calvin Monroe. The 83 year old resident of the Gorman community died Sunday. Survivors are his widow and 4 children. Interment was made in the community cemetery. Smith, Robert. He was 76 years of age and a lifelong resident of the Angie community. He died Saturday and interment was in the Angie cemetery. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Graves of Bogalusa and was killed in action off the Normandy Beachhead on June 9th in the first days of the invasion. Services were held at the First Baptist church in Bogalusa. He was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Graves of the Bickham community. Stafford, Eliza. The 81 year old resident of Bogalusa died October 18th. She was the widow of the late Edward Stafford and is survived by 10 children, 38 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Interment was in the Fisher cemetery. 11-2-1944 Jones, Pvt. First Class Royce W. Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Jones of the Enon community received word last week that their son had been killed in action in the Holland area. He was 29 years old. Survivors are his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters and grandson of Jack K. Jones. Morgan, Pfc. Winsel P. Mr. and Mrs. Paul V. Morgan received word last week that their son died October 4th of wounds received in action at Peleiu Island of Paulau Islands. He was 20 years old on the 14th of August. Rush, John E. 59 year old farmer of Walthall county was killed in a hit- and-run crash into the rear of a wagon they were driving near Tylertown Saturday night. 11-9-1944 11-16-1944 McLain, Leah Varnado. She was age 70 and died at the ESM hospital in Bogalusa last Thursday. On Monday of this week, her husband, Louis W. McLain, age 72, died at his home here. Survivors are 3 children, 6 brothers, 6 sisters, 6 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment was in the Ellis cemetery. 11-23-1944 Bankston, S.-Sgt. John I. Bankston. He was the 41 year old son of Willie Bankston of Stoney Point and died Friday at an army hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. Barber, Dalphus. Interment was in the Noble’s cemetery. 12-21-1944 Poole, Martin Collier. He died at his home in south Franklinton on December 17th. He was born in Washington Parish near the site of the City of Bogalusa on December 30, 1862 and was the only son of the late Abner C. and Margania Wood Poole. On December 8, 1889 he married Margaret Wadsworth. Seven children were born, 6 of who survive and also 15 grandchildren. Interment was in the Morris cemetery. 12-28-1944 No viewable obituaries.
