She married the late Donald D. White in 1933. She worked for her husband for 46 years as a professional photographer in Bogalusa. She held a Master of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers Association of America. Through her experience in photographic art, she became interested in other forms of art. She enjoyed painting, ceramics, gardening and collecting antiques. She was also active in the First Presbyterian Church in Bogalusa. She is survived by a daughter, Joan White Mell of St. Louis, MO; a son, Larry Burris White of Nampa, ID; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, William James Burris and Nina Hood Burris; and her husband, Donald D. White. September 23, 1998 Marguerite Gulledge Carney (Died September 21, 1998) BOGALUSA- Marguerite Gulledge Carney, vice president of Barnes Furniture, died Monday evening at Bogalusa Community Medical Center. Carney, born and raised near Magnolia, MS, was a long time resident of Bogalusa. After graduating from Southwest Junior College and the Mississippi University for Women, she taught English and coached girl's basketball at Franklinton High School. Relocating to Bogalusa, she founded Barnes Furniture with her husband, Harry Barnes Carney. She was active in church and community service throughout her life. She was a music leader and organist at her church, Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church. She also served in various capacities with the Civic League, the Hillside Garden Club, and other area organizations. Her lifetime commitment to sharing also extended into her writing and photography. She is survived by her husband, Harry Barnes Carney; her son, Paul Townsley Carney; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane Carney and Matt Pittman; her mother, Muriel Gulledge; and two grandchildren, Hunter M. Pittman and Hannah M. Pittman. She is preceded in death by her father, Willis Emmett Gulledge. Sharpe was Assistant Sergeant at Arms for the House of Representatives. He was the former Commissioner of the Department of Used Parts and Motor Vehicles. For many years, Sharpe was Sales Representative for several major companies and vice chairman of the Livingston Parish Charter Commission. He was known throughout for his catering and culinary talents. He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and a Kappa Sigma alumnus. He was a Mason and a member of the Bogalusa Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Michel Sharpe of Denham Springs; his mother, Opal Sones Sharpe of Bogalusa; one son, Chris Sharpe of Prairieville; two daughters, Stacy and Angel Sharpe both of Baton Rouge; one brother, Robert "Bob" Sharpe of Bogalusa; one sister, Judy Farmer of Bogalusa; one grandson, Brian E.
