Ezell Mitchell Sr.
(Died Dec. 25, 2002)
FRANKLINTON - Ezell Mitchell Sr., 75, a resident of Dobson Street, died
Wednesday at Riverside Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mitchell; his mother, Veigil Cooper; six
daughters, Pauleine, Margie, Linda, Vera, Gennie and Sandra Mitchell, all of
Milwaukee, WI; four sons, Maurice, Ricky, Kevin and Ezell Mitchell Jr., all of
Milwaukee; two brothers, Melvin and Jerry Cooper, both of Milwaukee; 30
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends.
Visitation will be at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton from 3 to 8 p.m.
The family hour is from 7-8 p.m. The funeral service is tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Sweet
Home Church of Christ Holiness with the Rev. Washington E. Drake officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Milwaukee.

Leola 'Dodie' Miller
(Died Dec. 26, 2002)
BOGALUSA n Leola "Dodie" Miller, 71, a resident of Bogalusa, died Thursday in
Rest Haven Living Center in Bogalusa.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Glen Huff of Bryan, Texas;
a son and daughter-in- law, Johnny and Cherie Miller of Bogalusa; three sisters,
Thelma Benson, Lanita Pounds, and Linda Fountain, all of Bogalusa; a brother,
Ronald Talley of Bogalusa; and five grandchildren.
Visitation was held yesterday at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 5-10 p.m. and will
continue today from 10 a.m. until the chapel funeral service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Ester
Hammond will officiate and interment will follow in Talley's Chapel Cemetery.



SFC James M. Hyde Sr., US Army Ret.
(Died Dec. 27, 2002)
COVINGTON - SFC James M. Hyde Sr., US Army, Retired, 82, of Covington, died
Friday at 12:13 a.m. at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
A native of Kentwood, he had lived in Covington for 25 years. He served in the Army
for 27 years during World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He received
the Bronze Star while serving in Korea.
He was the beloved husband of Clara Davis Hyde by a second marriage and the late
Athalean Burkhalter Hyde, by a first marriage.
Survivors include two sons, Larry E. and James M. Hyde Jr.; two daughters-in-law,
Jeanne P. and Karen C. Hyde; one brother, Raymond R. Hyde; two sisters, Pauline H.
Penton and Marjorie Ormond; a brother-in- law, William Fitzmorris; five
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Norman R. and Samuel B. Hyde Jr.
Visitation will be tomorrow at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home in Covington from 9 a.m.
until the chapel funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial
Gardens.



Oda Lee Holloway
(Died Dec. 26, 2002)
BOGALUSA n Oda Lee Holloway, 83, a resident of Bogalusa, died Thursday in her
home. She was a lifetime member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Marshall Vernell and Barbara Holloway
of Slidell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Don Tullos, and Schranga and
Terry Lawrence, all of Bogalusa; a daughter-in-law, Portia Holloway of Alabama; a
stepbrother, George Denham of Bogalusa; a stepsister, Gertrude Fleming of
Bogalusa; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James V. Holloway; a son, James C.
Holloway; and her brother and sister.
Visitation was held yesterday at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home from 5:30-10 p.m.
and will continue today from 9 a.m. until the chapel funeral service at 2 p.m. The
Revs. Tom Patterson, Lynn Martin and Don Thornburg will conduct the service.
Burial will be in the Wallace Cemetery.



Luther Eugene Crawford
(Died Dec. 28, 2002)
BOGALUSA - Luther Eugene Crawford, 87, a native and life-long resident of
Bogalusa, died yesterday at Greenbriar Nursing Home in Slidell. He was a member of
Plainview Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Pittman and her husband, Larry of
Bogalusa, Pattie Sue Farr of Marietta, GA, and Constance Marie vanCalsem and her
husband, Robert of Pass Christian, MS; one sister, Lena Crawford of Bogalusa; five
granddaughters; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Thigpen Crawford; his parents, Jacob and
Alice Crawford; and a brother, Burt Crawford.
Visitation will be tomorrow at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the
chapel funeral service at 10. Plainview Baptist pastor, the Rev. Keith Sheridan will
officiate. Interment will follow in Plainview Baptist Church Cemetery.

home.
She is survived by her husband, Michael L. Williams of Bogalusa; a daughter, Stacey
Mizell of Bogalusa; a son, Jeff Penton of Bush; three sisters, Betty Jo Provost of
Bush, Mildred Freeman of Bogalusa, and Diane Strahan of Sun; five brothers, Fred
Wells Jr. of Sun, David Wells, Bobby Wells, both of Bogalusa, Glenn Wells of
Denham Springs, and Jerry Wells of Texas; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon K. Penton; and her parents, Fred
and Mary Ester Williams.

tomorrow from 10 a.m. until the chapel funeral service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Frank

(Died Dec. 24, 2002)
FRANKLINTON n Viola Stephens Corkern, 95, a resident of Amite, died at 4:15
p.m. Wednesday in Riverside Medical Center. She was a member of the Sharon
Missionary Baptist Church and the widow of John J. Corkern.
Survivors include two sons, J.Q. Corkern of Hammond, and Alfred Corkern of
Ferriday; six daughters, Vernell Seal, Shirley Holden and Barbara Cox, all of Amite,
Margaret Ann Seal of Franklinton, Vicki Loomis of Ferriday, and Sue Robertson of
Kentwood; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 12
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son; three step-children, Wilvie Corkern, Denver
Corkern, and J.B. Corkern; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Crain Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. today and tomorrow
from 8 a.m. until the chapel funeral service at 11 a.m. Elds. Mason Miley, Terry
Robertson, and Jerry Blackwell, and the Rev. Matt Peterson will officiate at the
service. Burial will be in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery near Amite.

VARNADO n Charles Wayne Fornea Sr., 58, a resident of Varnado, died Tuesday in
his home. He was a member and deacon of the First Missionary Baptist Church of
Varnado.
Survivors include his wife, Maylee Flynn Fornea of Varnado; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Norma Lee and Ricky Knight of Varnado, and Sarah and Richard
Williams Jr. of Angie; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles W. Jr. and Tammy Fornea
of Bogalusa; a sister, Maria Hardesty of Florida; a brother, David Fornea; five
grandchildren, Sunshyne Adams, Kami Kellis, Blake Helton, Vivian Williams and
Jacob Williams; and his mother-in-law, Myrtis Penton of Varnado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Ollie Fornea.

BOGALUSA n Willette Gerald Cotton, 59, a native and lifelong resident of Bogalusa,
died yesterday in her home.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Cotton of Bogalusa; two children, Patrick
Cotton and his wife Vanessa of Bogalusa, and Michelle Cotton Jones and her husband
Michael of Franklinton; a sister, Gwen Breland and her husband Turhan of the Pine
community; a brother, Donald Gerald of Blue Ridge, GA; six grandchildren, Michael
Jones, Justin Jones, Austin Jones, all of Franklinton, Shandra Cotton, Joey Cotton
and Miranda Cotton, all of Bogalusa; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Troy and Mark Cotton; her parents, Wilton
Gerald and Margie Dodson; two brothers, Kendoy and Barry Gerald; and a sister,
Gayle Gerald.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-10 p.m. at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home

BOGALUSA n Emile Wayne Walters, 63, a native and lifelong resident of Bogalusa,
died Saturday in the LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa. He was retired from the U.S.
Army.
Survivors include two sisters, Carol Holloway of Bogalusa and Virginia King of
Bossier City; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Walters and Hazel Cothern Walters.
A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date under the direction of
Brown-McGehee Funeral Home.



Nelda Hixson Purvis
(Died Dec. 22, 2002)
METAIRIE n Nelda Hixson Purvis, 67, a resident of Bogalusa, died yesterday in East
Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie.
She is survived by her husband, Robert R. Purvis Sr. of Bogalusa; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Kelly P. and Tom Hogue of Lafayette, and Gwynne P. and Scott Adams
of Watson; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert R. Jr. and Lori Purvis of Bogalusa; a
sister, Jo Ann Nickel of Sherman, Texas; four grandchildren, Joseph Lyons of
Lafayette, and Aimee, Brandee and Casee Adams, all of Watson; and her stepmother,
Bessie Joe Hixson of Bogalusa.
She was preceded in death by her parents John Hixson and Iris Marie Tindol Hixson.

She is survived by three sons, Allen Ray Killingsworth and Ronnie Gene
Killingsworth, both of Bogalusa, and Ernest R. Killingsworth of Summit, MS; eight
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Angie; two sons, Randall Kennedy and Larry Libert III, both of Anige; her father,
Jewel "Cutworm" Williams of Varnado; two sisters, Katherine Miley of Pass

Varnado; and two grandchildren, Savannah Kennedy and Miranda Kennedy.

in his home.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dempsey E. "Gene" Jr. and Veda
Lewis of Bogalusa, and Bobby D. and Sabrina Lewis of Waggaman; his mother,
Addie Cutrer Lewis; a sister, Ester Tripp of Waggaman; a brother, John Lewis of
Waggaman; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lewis; a sister, Lois Frabille; and
three brothers, Bobby, Alfred, and James Lewis.

COVINGTON n Herman Clifton Cochran, 65, a resident of Bogalusa, died Sunday in
St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran with 22 years of
service.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Nellie Watson Cochran of Rockingham, NC;
two sons, Duane Cochran of Bogalusa and David Cochran of Rockingham; three
brothers, Fred Cochran of Bogalusa, Oliver Walker of Crystal Springs, MS, and J.C.
Walker of Dayton, TN; a sister, Alberta Thomas of Dale, NY; and numerous nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Moses Cochran and Susie Hyatt
Cochran; and a brother, James Walker.
The family will receive friends and relatives today from 7-9 p.m. at Brown-McGehee
Funeral Home. Cochran's remains will then be forwarded to Carter Funeral Home in
Rockingham for final services and interment in Richmond Memorial Park in
Rockingham. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to a charity
of choice.

died Sunday in St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. He was a member of

COVINGTON n Gayle Expose' "Mama Gayle" Jenkins, 75, a native and lifelong
resident of Bogalusa, died Friday in St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. She
was a wife, mother, sister, nurse, friend and activist.
Survivors include a daughter, Willie E. "Toni" Breaux of Bogalusa; two sons, Don
Duane Expose' and Willie Elliott Jenkins, both of Bogalusa; two sisters, Geraldine
Bennett and Sandra Cooper Lusk, both of Bogalusa; a stepmother, Mary C. Williams
of Bogalusa; eight grandchildren, Kyle Jamar Harry, Ryan Todd Harry, Chad Achilles
Harry, Elliott Expose', Don Duane Expose' Jr., Tandileer Jenkins Dalton, Felishia
Monroe Jenkins Keys and Darilyn Donyelle Jenkins Carter; 16 great-grandchildren;
and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Jenkins; her mother, Willie Bell
Expose'; her father, Willie Crawford; and a sister, Beris York Penn.

Baptist Church tomorrow from 1-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held Wednesday

Grace Young
(Died Dec. 11, 2002)
BOGALUSA -- Grace Young, 92, died last Wednesday morning at Bogalusa Medical
Center. She was born on Aug. 13, 1910 to the late George and Mabel Washington.
She was baptized at an early age at New Hope A.M.E. Zion Church. She moved to
Detroit, Michigan in 1944 and worked at New Mt. Moriah Baptist Church of Detroit.
She returned to Sun, LA in 1960 where she united with Jerusalem Baptist Church.
She served as the mother of the church under Rev. James D. Cyrus and was ordained
as a deaconess under the leadership of Rev. Keith B. Cowart.
She was united in holy wedlock to the late Deacon Sullivan Young Dec. 17,1930.
This 53-year marriage produced four children.
She is survived by two sons, Stanley Young and Alton Ray Young of Sun, LA; one
daughter, Yvonne Young Jasmine of Marrero, LA; one son-in-law, Oscar Jasmine, Jr.
of Marrero, LA; one sister, Gladys Leonard of Baton Rouge, LA; one sister-in-law,
Gussie Jackson of Marrero, LA; eight grandchildren, Frank Stewart, Jr. of New
Orleans, Lisa D. Terry of Bogalusa, Alton Ray Young, Jr., Shane A. Young, Shawn
Y. Young, all of New York; Iris L. Young of Atlanta, GA; DeAnna K. Jasmine and
RaShanna G. Jasmine of Marrero, LA; onegranddaughter-in-law, Dede Young of
New York; 12 reat-grandchildren, two devoted friends, Ruby Harness and Ronnie
Cure; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her mother, her father, her stepfather, her
daughter, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, 1 daughter-in-law, and one grandson.

Bogalusa; a son, Wayne M. Wilson of Memphis, TN; nine grandchildren and 16 great
grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Wilson of Bogalusa and Charles M. Wilson of
Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis Ann Johnson Wilson.

Roberta "Bobbie" Burris Johnson

FRANKLINTON - Roberta "Bobbie" Burris Johnson, 87, died Friday. She was born
to Robert Lee "Bob" Burris and Martha Clotilde "Matt" Wood Burris July 19, 1915,
the ninth of ten children. Her family was instrumental in the beginning of the
Washington Parish Fair. An agriculture-based family with strong work ethics and
religious beliefs reared her. She attended the Franklinton school system, Whitworth
College in Brookhaven, MS., and graduated from Louisiana State Teachers College,
now Northwestern State University. She taught kindergarten as a Methodist
missionary in Tampa, Fl. and Key West, Fl. before marrying her high school
sweetheart, Andrew Griffith Johnson, who also was from Franklinton.
She was a committed member of Centenary United Methodist Church and served in
many capacities as a teacher and leader. She was a member of United Methodist
Women and the Hallie Love Sunday school class.
She served her community as an active club leader and the Fair as a board member
and Mile Branch Settlement founder. Because of her dream, Mile Branch became a
reality. She served as first chairman of Mile Branch and was, from the beginning, the
chairman of the committee that approved buildings and furnishings to be added to the
settlement. During the 2002 Fair she was awarded the first Mile Branch Settlement
award.
She is survived by a son, Andrew Griffith Johnson II; three grandchildren, Angela
Johnson Bowman, John Griffith Johnson, Allison Johnson Thomas; grandsons-in-law,
Bradley Bowman, Wesley Thomas, and granddaughter-in-law, Kelley Holmes
Johnson; seven great grandchildren, Andrew, Caroline and John Bradley Bowman,
Ella and Emma Grace Johnson and Griffith and Jacob Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Griffith Johnson; her parents,
Robert Lee Burris and Martha Clotilde Wood and her nine brothers and sisters,
Nathan Benton Burris, Hugh Preston Burris, Jesse Daniel Burris, Flora Mae Burris,
Emma Gay Burris, Alma Burris Richardson, Roy Lee Burris, James Wilson Burris and
William Addison Burris.

CROSSROADS, MS - Barbara Ann Munn, 54, a native of Bogalusa and a resident of
Crossroads, MS., died Friday at her residence. She was a member of First Pentecostal
Church in Bogalusa, a retired Naval Master Chief who received several
commendations while touring in Japan, Antarctica and Hawaii. After her retirement,
she volunteered in Biloxi, MS and with several veteran's organizations.
She is survived by two sons, W. Allen Davis and his wife Cathy of Reno, NV and
Warren Davis of Biloxi; five sisters, Mrs. Shelton (Mary ) Knight of Bogalusa, Mrs.
Harvey (Jackie) McMurray Sr. of Crossroads, Mrs. Angelo (Cheryle) Morales of
Kenner, Mrs. Sam (Ruth) Killins of Lyndonville, NY, Mrs. David (Lisa) Collins of

Warren Junior Bedwell

BOGALUSA n Warren Junior Bedwell, 65, a resident of Bogalusa, died yesterday in
the LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa. He was a member of Emmanuel Missionary
Baptist Church and Capital Lodge No. 399 of Baton Rouge where he was a Past
Master. Also a member of Center Lodge No. 244 F&AM, he was retired from the
Louisiana National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Stewart Bedwell of Bogalusa; two stepsons,
Dewayne Lambert of Poplarville, MS, and Russell Lambert of Bogalusa; a
stepdaughter, Donna Phillips of Bogalusa; a brother, Donald Bedwell of Baton
Rouge; four sisters, Aline Gill, Geraldine Penton, Wanzie Talley, and Rita Mizell. all
of Bogalusa; four grandchildren, Brian and Blake Phillips, all of Bogalusa, and Collins
Barnes and Carlie Lambert, both of Poplarville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Jones.
Visitation will be held at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home today from 5-10 p.m. with a
Masonic service at 7 p.m. conducted by Center Lodge No. 244 F&AM.Visitation will
continue tomorrow from 8 a.m. until the chapel funeral service at 2 p.m. The Revs.
Marlin Gipson and George Moore will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillview
Memorial Gardens.

Franklinton, died yesterday in Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans.

Lynn Williams Wilson Jr.
(Died Dec. 6, 2002)
SLIDELL n Lynn Williams Wilson Jr., 73, a native of Bogalusa and a resident of
Slidell, died at 10:35 p.m. Friday. He served in the United States Air Force obtaining
the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Private services were held under the direction of Schoen Funeral Home in Slidell.



Sterling Robert 'Bubba' Gillis Jr.

BOGLAUSA n Sterling Robert "Bubba" Gillis Jr., 26, a resident of Bogalusa, died
Sunday in Bogalusa.
He is survived by a son, Sterling Robert Gillis III of Katy, Texas; his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. James (Marketta) Burdette of Katy, and Sterling Robert Gillis Sr. of Jackson,
MS; a sister, Jennifer L. Burdette of Katy; two brothers, James W. Burdette II and his
wife, Jennifer, and Jonathon W. Burdette, all of Bogalusa; his grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Davis of Bogalusa, and Joyce Gillispie of Jackson; a niece, Breanna
Sones of Bogalusa; and numerous aunt, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Percy Spears, Mr. and Mrs. Lon
Miley, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Burdette and Sterling Lewis Gillis.
Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home today from 5-9 p.m. A funeral
service will be conducted from the funeral home chapel tomorrow at 10 a.m. by the
Rev. Tom Patterson. Interment will follow in the Lon Miley Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Lorio, Kannon Kellis, Darren Spears, Kelly Rush,
Daniel Purvis, Shane Kellis and Matt Distefano. Honorary pallbearers include Devon
Davis, Joey Davis, Aaron Davis, Tucker Lee, Leslie Davis, Donald Davis Jr., Chad
Kellis, Chad Hennick, Eric Breland, Jason Smith, Todd Applewhite and Jude Palazzo.

Annie Lorraine Addison Gard
(Died Dec. 7, 2002)
BOGALUSA n Annie Lorraine Addison Gard, 82, a resident of Bogalusa, died
Saturday in Bogalusa. A former president of the Civic League, she enjoyed
associating with the ladies sewing circle, quilting, and shared a love for art and
sculpting with her husband. Her family said she was a wonderful wife and mother.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Gard of Bogalusa; three sons, Peter Gard of
Bogalusa, Michael Gard of Bozeman, MT, and Stephen Gard of Grenada, MS; a
daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Gard of Beallsville, MD; seven grandchildren; and 10
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Paul D. Gard III; and her sister, Irma Case.
A private family service will be held followed by interment in Lexington Cemetery in
Lexington, KY.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of choice.



Richard (Cal) Fowler
(Died Dec. 7, 2002)
FRANKLINTON -- Richard (Cal) Fowler, 36, a resident of Franklinton, died
yesterday at LSU Medical Center.
Fowler is survived by his mother , Mary Fowler; two sisters, Tammy (Warren) Bell of
Franklinton and Shanda Warren of California; four brothers, Terry Fowler, Kenneth
(Vanessa) Fowler of New Orleans, Darrell Fowler, Phillip Fowler of Franklinton; a
best friend, Monica Brock and children; three uncles, Oliver Warren and James
Warren of Franklinton and Birnes Warren of California and a host of relatives and
friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Fowler.
Visitation will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today at Crain and Sons Funeral
Home in Franklinton.
The funeral service will take place at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Mallory
Callahan will officiate.
Dismissal will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Crain and Sons.
Fowler will be interred in Bethel Cemetery in Franklinton.




Jeanette Sims
(Died Dec. 5, 2002)
BOGALUSA -- Jeanette Sims, 62, a native and resident of Bogalusa, died at 1:30
a.m. Thursday at LSU Medical Center.
Sims was a member of First Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Bishop
H. E. Quillen Jr. She served as president of the local Usher Board and district
president. And she was a member of the state Usher Board.
Sims was a president of Pastor's Aid, a Sunday School and Y.P.W.W. teacher for the
primary department where she worked with young people and wherever else she was
needed at the local, district and state levels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sims; her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert May and two sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianna Granger of Chicago, IL.; three sisters, Betty
Booker, Nattine Jones and Mary Jones all of Chicago; two brothers , John (Betty)
Granger of Bogalusa and Fleet (Roberta) Jones of Chicago; one sister-in-law, Mary
Jane Dee; one god child, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will take place at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home today from 3 p.m. to 6
p.m.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Church of God in Christ , 612
E. Fifth St. Bishop H. E. Quillen Jr. will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Bogalusa Cemetery.




Eva Mae Ellison

BOGALUSA -- Eva Mae Ellison, 66, a resident of Bogalusa, died Friday at LSU
Medical Center.

Dalton Thomas
(Died Dec. 4, 2002)
COVINGTON, LA n Dalton Thomas, 63, a resident of the Pine community, died at
11:45 a.m. Wednesday in St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. A brick mason
and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, along with his wife, he operated Thomas
Community Grocery in the Stateline community.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce O'Berry Bookout Thomas of Pine; three sons, Gary
Allen Thomas of Franklinton, James Dalton Thomas, and Brent Dalton Thomas, both
of Pine; a daughter, Leminda McGraph of Covington; a stepdaughter, Cyndi Bookout
of New Orleans; six grandchildren, Ashley Thomas, Robert Thomas, Lauren Thomas,
Kateland Thomas, Tyler Breland, and Staci Breland; three brothers, J.M. Thomas,
Mac Thomas, both of Pine, and Berkley Thomas of Bogalusa; and five sisters, Alberta
Kennedy of Pearl River, Margaine Tynes of Covington, Lucille Thomas, Rutha Mae
Thomas, both of Pine, and Roselee Hiney of Franklinton.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Eld. McCauley "Buck" and Dorether Cooper
Thomas; and brothers and sisters, Lizzie Hines, Silas Thomas, Lloyd Thomas, Cullie
Thomas, Willie Thomas, Paul Thomas, Seamon Thomas, and Marcus Thomas.
Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home yesterday from 6-10 p.m. and will
continue after 9 a.m. today until time of the funeral service, to be conducted from the
funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. The Elds. Clyde Cooper and Ben Whatley will officiate
at the service.
Burial will follow in Harmony Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.



Gene Paul Magee
(Died Nov. 29, 2002)
FRANKLINTON n Gene Paul Magee, 68, a resident of LA Hwy. 430 in Franklinton,
died Nov. 29 in Riverside Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Jean Magee of Franklinton; a daughter, Sharon
Lynett Pooler of Franklinton; three sons, Gene Lionel Magee, Paul Earl Magee, both
of Franklinton, and Johnny Donell Magee of Jacksonville, FL; five sisters, Mattie
Magee, Lillian Bickham, Mildred Magee, Freddie Taylor, and Iona "Red" Queen of
New Orleans; two brothers, Johnny B. Magee and Roosevelt Magee, both of New
Orleans; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
Visitation will be held today at Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton from 3-8
p.m. with a family hour from 7-8 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted tomorrow by the Rev. Carlis Caldwell at Bethel
Church of Christ Holiness (U.S.A.) at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in Magee's Cemetery.



Jeffery Donis Edwards

BOGALUSA n Jeffery Donis Edwards, 44, a native and resident of Bogalusa and a
former resident of New Brunswick, NJ, died Wednesday in the LSU Medical Center.
Survivors include two sons, Cordeiro and Joshua Edwards; two daughters, Ashley
and Sheneka Edwards, all of New Brunswick; his mother, Jessie Lee Edwards; his
father, Elder Hubert Edwards Sr.; three brothers, Hubert (Eleanor) Edwards Jr. of
Newark, NJ, Beanie Ray (Helen) Edwards of Bogalusa, and Timothy Bruce Edwards
of Metairie; four sisters, Angelnell Jackson of Somerset, NJ, Carroll (Olu) Cole of
South River, NJ, Brealan (Jerry) Wells of Bogalusa, and Vanessa (Fabian) Legard of
New Orleans; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home chapel Monday at 12 p.m.
