Franklinton man dies in house fire BY MARCELLE HANEMANN THE DAILY NEWS FRANKLINTON - Fire claimed the life of a local man on the first day of the new year. Details are still being gathered, said Assistant Fire Chief Tommy Thomas. But the deceased was apparently Ned Causey, who was approximately 60 years of age. Wayne Tate is the believed owner of the now-unlivable house at 1130 T.W. Barker Dr. where "several people" reportedly claim to have resided. It is uncertain whether or not Causey was a resident, Thomas said. At least one other person was reportedly in the building when the fire started, but he managed to get out, said Thomas. The call for help came in at 10:32 a.m., and the house was "fully involved" when firemen arrived on the scene at 10:36 a.m., he said. "They told us when we were dispatched that there was possibly someone inside," said Thomas. "We went in, but it was too far gone. We had to fight fire. It was coming out of the windows and doors when we got there. "When we got it knocked down enough so we could go into it for a second look, we located the body. The deceased was in a bedroom with the door shut." Thomas said he was not sure whether the victim died from burns or from smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
