Born in Franklinton Aug. 23, 1914 to the late Permella Welch Reese and James Jasper Reese, she attended Franklinton schools, and upon the death of her parents in 1930, she moved with her siblings into the home of her brother and his wife, Oddies and Camille Reese in Hammond. While there she completed high school and later married and moved to Independence, LA, her husband's hometown. The couple lived in Independence until 1963, when they moved to Arabi, LA. In 1998 she moved to Burke, VA, near Washington, D.C., to live with her son and daughter-in-law. She was the last survivor of the Reeses' 12 children and their spouses. She was a gumbo cook-off winner and a virtually invincible Scrabble player, but her greatest skill was manifest as a compassionate counselor, and she was always first in line to help others in need. She was loved by all, and will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, who fondly called her, "Aunt Pete". Survivors include a son, Joseph Anthony LaMarca and his wife, June Britton LaMarca. Dominique Lorenzo Brown (Died Oct. 2, 2002) DALLAS, TEXAS n Dominique Lorenzo Brown, 30, a resident of native of Varnado and a resident of Plano, died Oct. 2 in Dallas due to injuries from an automobile accident. He joined Center Missionary Baptist Church at age six under the leadership of the late Rev. Linwood Bolton Sr. He later joined the Friendship West Baptist Church of Dallas where he remained until his death. He also remained a member of Center Missionary Baptist Church until the time of his death. A 1990 honor graduate of Varnado High School where he played football and basketball, he attended Southern University in Baton Rouge for two years and joined the Louisiana National Guard in 1990. He remained a member of the Nation Guard Reserve until 1998 and received a number of awards during his time service. He was employed by Countrywide Loans as an end user analyst (computer trouble shooter). A very warm, outgoing young man, Brown will be sadly missed by all the family and friends who enjoyed him for the past 30 years. MS man hangs himself in Bogalusa jail cell BY MARCELLE HANEMANN THE DAILY NEWS BOGALUSA - A Sandy Hook man apparently hung himself in his cell at the Bogalusa City Jail this weekend. During a routine prisoner welfare check at approximately 6:40 a.m. Saturday a jailer reportedly discovered Tommy Magee, 29, 79 Upper Sunlight Church Road hanging in the small, sparse room. Whether or not he was already dead at that time has not been released. Nor have other details such as the method and material he used to hang himself. Magee was being held on a district court warrant involving domestic violence. Police Chief Jerry Agnew immediately called for a full investigation, which is now underway. Assistant Chief Willis Yarbrough said the results of the BPD investigation would be turned over to the district attorney's office. That office could further pursue the matter, he said. Agnew called the incident "an unfortunate" occurrence and expressed his condolences to Magee's family. BY MARCELLE HANEMANN THE DAILY NEWS BOGALUSA - One man was killed and another seriously injured in two separate accidents on Washington Parish highways in a just over 24-hour period starting late Wednesday night. The first incident took place at 11 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Louisiana State Police. James M. Mobley, 24, 34262 T. Polk Road, Pearl River, was reportedly driving a 2002 Ford pickup truck owned by Evergreen Tractor of Covington northbound on LA Hwy. 21 when his vehicle ran off the left side of the highway near Double D Meats south of Bogalusa, said Trooper Kevin Allen. "He overcorrected to the right," said Allen. "The truck started rotating clockwise and traveled off the roadway to right. He hit a large pine tree with his left front fender and the vehicle caught fire." Mobley was reportedly burned over 75 percent of his body, from his upper chest to his feet. He was transported to Riverside Medical Center in serious condition. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in the accident, said Allen. Hurricane Lili was reportedly a factor in the second wreck that took place at 1:45 a.m. today. Gary Oswald, 30, 38433 LA Hwy. 10, Franklinton was killed when his 1995 Toyota pickup truck struck a tree that had fallen across the roadway, said Allen. The incident occurred almost a mile and a half north of LA Hwy. 16. on LA Hwy. 450. Oswald's passenger, Ricky D. Holmes, 32, was reportedly not injured in the crash.
