He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He is survived by a son, A.J. Reviere of Thailand, a daughter, Dina Salmon of Roswell, NM; his mother, Ola Mae Hickman Reviere of Covington; two brothers, Bill Reviere of Covington and Johnny Reviere of Bemidji, MN; and two sisters, Eloise Jarrell of Melville, and Nell Loyd of Covington. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Reviere; a sister, Geraldine Sharp; and a brother, Jimmy Reviere. Visitation will be held at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton tomorrow from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m. The Revs. Leon Hickman and Ray Major will conduct the service and interment will follow in Tyson Cemetery. Roy Messina (Died Jan. 30, 2003) BOGALUSA n Roy Messina, 82, a native and lifelong resident of Bogalusa, died yesterday at the LSU Medical Center. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of Ben's Ford Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Irene Miley Hunt Messina of Bogalusa; a stepson, Howard Hunt of Slidell; a stepdaughter, Mildred Hill of Bogalusa; five step-grandchildren, Ann Thompson of Bogalusa. Tonya Foil of Mandeville, Heather parker of Bogalusa, Krystal Hunt of Slidell, and Gretchen Hunt of Sun; eight step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife by his first marriage, Thelma Messina; a son, Gary Bernard Messina; his parents, Joe and Lucy Messina; three sisters, Lena Saba, Anna Ryan, and Patrina Sciana; and three brothers, Louis, Vincent and Emile Messina. Juanita Evans Wilson (Died Jan. 30, 2003) BOGALUSA n Juanita Evans Wilson, 77, a native and lifelong resident of Bogalusa, died at the LSU Medical Center today. She was a retired telephone company supervisor, and a member of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa. She is survived by two sons, James V. "Butch" Wilson of Georgia, and William L. "Ponche" Wilson of Bogalusa; three brothers, Woodrow Evans of Zachary, and Billy and Leroy Evans, both of Bogalusa; two sisters, Betty Schillings of Florida, and Margie Reeves of Bogalusa; seven grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius W. Wilson; a brother, Vernon Evans; and a sister, Ila Mae Nelson. Visitation will be tomorrow from 4-9 p.m. at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home. Cefalu and Kathleen Julian, both of Franklinton; two sisters, Myrtle Evans of Natchez, Evelyn Brumfield of Tylertown; five grandchildren, Corey White, Collin White, Max Julian, Kevin Cefalu, and Kim Cefalu; and two great-grandchildren, Christian White and Madison Cefalu. Miller, both of Gulfport, MS; three daughters, Patsy L. Elgie Tynes Gremillion (Died Jan. 25, 2003) HOUSTON n Elgie Tynes Gremillion, 81, a resident of Houston, Texas, died Saturday in her Texas home. She was a graduate of LSU and taught at Charles H. Milby High School for over 15 years. She was an active member of Park Place Baptist Church in Houston and a former member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church. She enjoyed volunteering for church activities and will be remembered for her generous spirit. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking and gardening. She was survived by her children, Merrill G. and David Laurentz, Carol G. and Rob Mitchell, and Louis Gremillion; her grandchildren, Matthew and Sidney Laurentz; a sister, Hilda Sones; two sisters-in-law, Alpha Leah Spence and husband, Floramye and John Todd; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Curtis Causey (Died Jan. 26, 2003) FRANKLINTON n Curtis Causey, 98, a resident of Franklinton, died Sunday in the Heritage Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Walthall County, MS, on June 2, 1904, to Ed and Tula Dillon Causey. He was a farmer and a deacon at Watervalley Church of God in Christ. He is survived by eight children, Hilda (C.M.) Alexander of Covington, Clara (Albert) Smith Sr., Leroy (Shirley) Causey, Alfreda Magee, Arizona (Meadro) Causey, Annie Ruth Causey, and George Causey, all of Franklinton; and Tula (Andre) Sterling of New Orleans; 38 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is survived by her husband, Martin Knight of Bogalusa; four daughters, Rosemary Sanders and her husband Pat of Destrehan, Barbara Sanders and her husband Gary of Lilburn, GA, Susan Magee of Bogalusa, and Doreen Seal and her husband Troy of Bogalusa; a sister-in-law, Ellen Knight of Bogalusa; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur H. and Rose Scott; and a son-in-law, Terry Magee. She worked in the food and beverage and art framing industries. Her family said she was a wonderful mother, wife, friend and child of God. Ray Pettitt (Died Jan. 26, 2003) FRANKLINTON n Ray Pettitt, 87, a resident of Franklinton, died at 4:30 p.m. yesterday at Riverside Medical Center. He was the owner of Pettitt Firestone for many years and later of Franklinton Appliance Store. He served on the Board of Directors of First Finance Company. He was past president of Franklinton Chamber of Commerce and the Franklinton Lions Club. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of World War II and past commander of Homer Magee Post 113 American Legion. He was Deacon Emeritus of First Baptist Church and also served several terms as chairman of deacons. He was a member and teacher of Friendship Sunday School Class and a longtime director of Men's Brotherhood. He was a member of Spring Creek Lodge and Franklinton Lodge No. 101. He was a charter member of Washington Parish Hospital District No. 1 (Riverside Medical Center.) Pettitt is survived by two sisters-in-law, Aline K. Smith and Velma C. Knith and a special friend, Nelda Stevens, all of Franklinton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Knight Pettitt. Edith Louise Kuhn Grass (Died Jan. 22, 2003) BOGALUSA n Edith Louise Kuhn Grass, 59, of Bogalusa, died last Wednesday at her home in Bogalusa. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Arno A. Kuhn on June 4, 1943, in Appleton, WI. She served in the U.S. Army at Vent Hill Farm Station in Virginia. While on temporary duty at Ft. Devens, MA, she met her husband, Bernard A. Grass. They married Aug. 15, 1964. She worked many years in the clothing industry, and arrived in Bogalusa in 1979. She was active in the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and active in Zion Lutheran Church. She also worked for many years helping to make Braille books for the blind. She is survived by her husband, Bernard Grass; two sons, John and Thomas Grass; a daughter, Eileen Young; a granddaughter, Virginia Grass, all of Bogalusa; two brothers, Jerry Kuhn of Hernando, MS, and Leonard Kuhn of De Pere, WI; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arno and Lena Kuhn. At her request, her remains were donated to science in hopes of finding a cure for cancer. A memorial will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 135 Rio Grande Ave. Delores Malley Carter (Died Jan. 25, 2003) BOGALUSA n Delores Malley Carter, 70, a lifelong resident of Bogalusa, died on Saturday at the Rest Haven Living Center. She was a retired member of the Bogalusa School System. She was a 1938 graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Home Economics and was a devoted wife and mother. She was an avid gardener and quilter as well as being a member of ESM United Methodist Church. Kuhn on June 4, 1943 in Appleton, WI. She served in the U.S. Army at Vent Hill Farm Station in Virginia. While on temporary duty at Ft. Devens, MA she met her husband, Bernard A. Grass. They married Aug. 15, 1964. She worked many years in the clothing industry, and arrived in Bogalusa in 1979. She was active in the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and active in Zion Lutheran Church. She also worked for many years helping to make Braille books for the blind. She is survived by her husband, Bernard Grass; two sons, John Grass and Thomas Grass; a daughter, Eileen Young; a granddaughter, Virginia Grass, all of Bogalusa; two brothers, Jerry Kuhn of Hernando, MS and Leonard Kuhn of De Pere, WI; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arno and Lena Kuhn. At her request, her remains were donated to science in hopes of finding a cure for cancer. Faye Holmes Varnado (Died Jan. 16, 2003) BOGALUSA n Faye Ellen Homes Varnado, 87, of Bogalusa died yesterday at the Dixon Hospital in Covington. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Linus Holmes on Nov. 11, 1915. As a lifelong resident of Bogalusa, she served as the athletic director at the Bogalusa Y.W.C.A. and later worked as a chemical technician at Crown Zellerbach, the job from which she retired. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, the Keenagers, the Share Group, and the Tuesday Prayer Group. She was active in the DAR, the Delphians, and the Matron Club and also served as a Pink Lady for the Bogalusa Community Medical Center. She was a member of Second Baptist Church where she worked faithfully with the youth department for many years. She had a great love for children. During her early years at Second Baptist, she was a member of the Senior Choir. In Feb. 1970, she joined the U.S. Army and served for three years. In Sept. 1976, she joined the Army Reserve and was employed as an administrative supply technician for the 344th Heavy Equipment Maintenance Company. She served in that position for seven years until she became disabled and had to retire. She attended Sullivan Vo-Tech Institute and received a certificate in marketing and merchandise. Angie woman dies in Improve, MS, wreck FROM THE MCCOMB ENTERPRISE-JOURNAL IMPROVE, MS - A 20-year-old Angie, LA, woman died at a Hattiesburg hospital yesterday morning following an auto accident in the Improve community of Walthall County shortly after midnight. Mississippi Highway Patrol corporal Rod Crawford reported today that Theresa Nicole Foster was headed eastbound in her 1991 Geo Prism when she lost control of the car. Crawford said the car veered off the roadway to the left and went up an embankment. He said the accident caused the car to overturn and ejected Foster, who apparently was not wearing a seatbelt. Crawford said the car crashed into the fence of the Carson Spring Baptist Church Cemetery and damaged a headstone. Foster went by ambulance to Walthall County General Hospital before being transported to Hattiesburg. Crawford said Foster was visiting someone in the area around the time of the accident. A member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and a graduate of LSU Medical School. He practiced general medicine in Bogalusa for some 20 years as well as at Carville National Hansens Disease Center for 28 years, and was a member of the American Medical Association and the Louisiana Medical Association. Born Feb. 11, 1924 in Mason City, IO to Oville Smith Williams and Esta Huntoon Williams, on Oct. 18, 1953 in Bogalusa he married Barbara Alexander. He had been employed as a welder by Standard Haven in Glasgow, MO, was a member of the Methodist Church in New Franklin, and served 22 years in the military with the Merchant Marines, Navy, and Air Force. He was involved in World War II, the Korean War, and the Viet Nam War. She was a retired administrative assistant for Gulf Park Junior College for Women in Long Beach and served along with her husband in the U.S. Army during World War II. During her military career, she was stationed at bases around the world.
