He was a faithful and dedicated leader in Bonner Creek Baptist Church. He served as chairman of the board of deacons, Sunday school superintendent, chairman of upkeep of buildings and grounds and various other committees. The church fellowship was built by his plans and under his leadership. He maintained Bonner Creek Cemetery. One of his fellow deacons described him as a dedicated Christian, always ready to be of service to God and his fellow man. He was proud to have been a Mason for more than 60 years. His civic duties included many years of volunteer work at the Mile Branch settlement. He will be remembered by many as a building contractor building many houses in Washington Parish and surrounding areas. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Leo Macias of Franklinton; two grandchildren, Dr. Dewitt and Mary Bateman, Jr. an Angela and Dr. Thomas Heigle, all of Baton Rouge; six great grandchildren, Zachary, Emily, Jonathan and Benjamin Bateman and Sarah and Christopher Heigle, all of Baton Rouge; a sister, Jessie Quin Selma of Watson; and two brothers, James Quin of Bogalusa and Max Quin of Denham Springs. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bessie Thomas Quin; his parents, Frank and Lela Welch Quin; two brothers, Jack Quin and Frank Quin; and two sisters, Nell Quin Magee and Gladys Quin McClendon. Crain, 48, a native of Bogalusa died last Tuesday in Maui, HI while on his 30th wedding anniversary trip with his beloved bride Carol. He was an active member and deacon at Memorial Baptist Church, and the owner of Traveler's Rest Motel and Timbers Restaurant. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ann Jenkins Crain; his children, Vicki Danyelle Crain, David Lee and Melissa Sheridan Crain; a grandson, David Lavell Crain II; his mother, Mary Laveeda King Crain; his sister, Darlene Crain Kennedy; a brother-in-law, Sid Kennedy; a niece, Jordan Leigh Kennedy; his mother-in-law, Eva Jenkins; and a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Brenda Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his father, Hershel Lavell Crain; and his father-in-law, Matthew Jenkins. Beasley Clinton 'Bill' Sharpe (Died March 26, 2003) GARLAND, TEXAS n Beasley Clinton "Bill" Sharpe, 77, a native of Talishek, MS, died Wednesday in Garland after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born Oct. 11, 1925 in Talishek, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941, and retired in 1966 after 20 years with the United States Air Force, serving during World War II as a gunner on B-24's. Sharpe enjoyed attending his reunions with fellow Air Force retirees, earned his private pilot license, and had a great love for NASCAR. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include a son, Charles C. Sharpe and wife Wanda of Carrollton; daughter, Paula Harris and husband "Red" of Dallas; four grandchildren, Shannon and Troy Hamilton, Elizabeth Schwarz and Michael Sharpe; step-father, C.H. McDaniel; two sisters, Joyce Murphy and Carol Shipman; two brothers, Kelley and Dewitt Sharpe; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives, Pauline, Grace and Sadie; and two sisters, Helen Drogemeier and Yvonne Sharpe. Robert Joseph Schaubhut Sr. (Died March 24, 2003) CHALMETTE n Robert Joseph Schaubhut Sr., 80, a resident of Chalmette for 51 years, died Monday in Chalmette Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Catalanotto of Bay St. Louis, MS, Brenda Smith of Houston, Texas, and Rosealine Sturgeon of Bogalusa; three sons, Robert J. She was a member of Crain's Creek Missionary Baptist Church and retired from Rutter Rex. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and was the retired co-owner of Bogalusa Rentals Inc. and the original owner of Zesto. She was a former member of ESM Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Bogalusa Civic League, American rental Association and the American legion Auxiliary. She is survived by two sons, Jason Lumpkin Sr. and his wife Ann of Bogalusa and Edward Lumpkin and his wife Joan of Denham Springs, LA; she is also survived by seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; 10 nephews and three nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene H. Lumpkin Jr.; her parents, William and Emily Kennon; two sisters, Janie K. Frank and Joyce Davis; and two brothers, William P. Kennon Jr. and Edward Ross Kennon. Collins, 84, a resident of Franklinton, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday in St. Tammany Hospital in Covington. He served as pastor of several area churches and was also a teacher in the Washington Parish Schools. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. Burial was in Sones Chapel Church cemetery. Rev. Jerald J. Cupp (Died Feb. 28, 2003) FRANKLINTON n The Rev. Jerald J. Cupp, 64, a resident of Franklinton, died last Friday at his residence. He was ordained into the ministry April 19, 1998, at Trinity Baptist Church in Franklinton, and later served as pastor of Sunnyhill Baptist Church until Nov. 2001. He also served as interim pastor at Thomas Baptist Church for about six months. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1957 to 1961. A member of the U.S. Army for four years, he was a graduate of Harper Baptist Seminary. He built and organized New Hope Baptist Church. He was also instrumental in the construction of Sweet Rest Baptist Church.
