He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Jennifer Applewhite of Bogalusa; his mother, Betty Applewhite of Bogalusa; a sister, Emily Applewhite of Bogalusa; a granddaughter, Kayla Applewhite of Bogalusa; and a niece, Brooke Applewhite of Bogalusa. He was preceded in death by his father, Tim Applewhite. Visitation will be held today at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. and will continue tomorrow from 9 a.m. until the chapel funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Jimmy Albritton will conduct the service. Interment will follow in Ponemah Cemetery. Robert Samuel 'R.S.' Williams (Died May 9, 2003) NEW ORLEANS n Robert Samuel "R.S." Williams, 76, a resident of Bogalusa, died Friday in the V.A. Medical Center in New Orleans. The oldest of seven boys, he was born Aug. 7, 1926 to the late Wallace Williams and Emma Evans in Wilmer. Williams united with the Oakridge Baptist Church in Wilmer under the leadership of the late Dr. D.J. Johnson. He later relocated to Bogalusa and united with Metropolitan Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. J.M. McWeen. While there he served as vice-president of the Usher Board, was a member of the Male Chorus, custodian for many years, and worked hard beautifying the church with his carpentry skills. In November 1992 he united with his family at the New Triumph Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Author J. Manning. While at New Triumph he was ordained as a deacon March 21, 2993, was superintendent of Sunday school, and worked hard beautifying the church with his carpentry skills until his health failed. He was a member of the City-Wide Prayer Band and the City-Wide Brotherhood. Serving the U.S. Army for four years, he was a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry for a number of years, assistant director of the Avenue U YMCA, a member of the Avenue U YMCA Board of Management, Troop 293 of the Boy Scouts of America, NAACP, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, a truck driver for Rogers Wholesale Grocery, worked for Stanley Brand Coffee Plant in New Orleans, and worked as a carpenter for over 30 years. Williams leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Mary Helen Williams; three children, Nicole (Rev. E.L.) Powell, and Loletha Williams, and Chad Williams of Bogalusa; a child he reared, Emmalean (Rev. Phillip) Williams of Wilmer; the mother of his children from a previous marriage, Earnestine James; their four children, Janice (Jerry) Goss, Carolyn (Robert) Gibson, Donald Williams, and Larry (Jeanette) Williams of Tacoma, WA; his stepfather, Alexander Jackson Sr. of Wilmer; six borhters, Rev. Jefphro (Arabella) Jackson, and Alexander Jackson of Hammond, John L. (Francis) Jackson, Jim (Clay) Jackson, Collier (Gloria) Jackson of Wilmer, and Ernest (Sharon) Jackson of Baton Rouge; an uncle, Woodroe Evans of Hammond; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding him in death was his mother, Emma Evans Jackson; his stepmother, Lillie Mae Jackson; a nephew, Jim Jackson Jr.; and a special friend, Deacon Leon Burns. Visitation will be held at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home tomorrow from 2-5 p.m. wit ha family hour from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Metropolitan Baptist Church, located at 1640 Charlevoix St., Bogalusa with the Rev. E.L. Powell officiating. Shirley Quillen May (Died May 16, 2003) COVINGTON n Shirley Quillen May, a resident of Angie, died today in St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. David Pipes Planche, M.D. (Died May 14, 2003) BATON ROUGE n David Pipes Planche, M.D., died at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Baton Rouge. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Planche; his children, Janet P. Morse, David Pipes Planche Jr., Patrick Erwin Planche, Connie Marie Planche, Lauren P. Brannan, and Mary Kathryn P. Schuessler; two sisters, Patty Sue Stevenson, and Camille White of Bogalusa; and 10 grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.V. Planche Sr.; and two brothers, Amadee J. Planche and O.V. Planche Jr. Visitation will be held tomorrow from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, located at 2021 Stuart Avenue in Baton Rouge. Burial will follow at St. George Cemetery.
