James Donald Maier (Died Nov. 25, 2003) NEW ORLEANS n James Donald Maier, 51, a resident of Mt. Hermon, died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday in Medical Center of Louisiana in New Orleans of injuries received in an automobile accident near Hammond Sunday. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was a licensed vocational nurse and was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include his father, Harvey W. Maier Sr. of Mt. Hermon; a brother and sister-in-law, Harvey W. Jr. and Toni Maier of Santa Fe, TX; four nephews, Dale Morgan Jr., Larry Wainscopt, Jeff Wainscopt, and Drew Riggin; and five nieces, Michelle Hoffpauir, Amber Leigh Maier, Angelyn Nicole Maier, Alana Lynn Maier, and Devin Aeril Maier. Vada Faye Graham Johnson (Died Nov. 26, 2003) JACKSON, MS n Vada Faye Graham Johnson, 92, a resident of Bogalusa for over 70 years, died yesterday in Jackson after a long illness. Born April 18, 1911 in Knoxo, MS, she was a member of West Side Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bogalusa. Survivors include three children, a son, Ira T. Johnson and wife Ruby of Bogalusa, a daughter, Judy Wilson and husband Glynn of Raymond, MS, and a son, Dale G. Johnson and wife Jan of San Antonio, TX; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Ira N. Charles Alder; mother of Dawn Cheri Alder, Charles Michael Alder and Brent Dale Alder; mother-in-law of Nancy Furse Alder; grandmother of Matthew Brent Alder and Jacob Lawrence Alder; sister of Fenwick "Babe" Jenkins, Mary Aline Stamatelaky, Shirley Magee, Peggy Hyatt and the late Fred Ronald Jenkins; also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. She was a member of Shepherd's Care Ministries who organized Shepherd's Care Food Ministry for the elderly and shut-ins in 1999. Rodney Fernandez and Larry Provorse will conduct the service. Burial will be in Ponemah Cemetery. A Bogalusa man was killed in a head-on crash Sunday on La. Hwy. 41. The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. According to state police reports, Casey Miller, 31, Bogalusa, was driving a Ford pickup truck northbound on La. Hwy. 41 northbound on the highway when he passed another vehicle and struck an oncoming car driven by Elouise Penton, 54, Pearl River, head-on. The passenger in Miller's vehicle, Kirk Kennedy, 34, Bogalusa, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Miller received moderate injuries and was taken to Northshore Regional Medical Center in Slidell. Pending charges against him are DWI, vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury and careless operation, according to reports. A graduate of Washington Parish High School, he received his bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and his masters of science degree in counseling from Southern University. He was a former teacher of Valley Park Elementary and Mayfair Elementary Schools in East Baton Rouge Parish. He retired as a counselor from the Louisiana State School for the Visually Impaired, and was the former pastor of Mount Zion Church of Christ Holiness USA in Gilbert, and pastor of Plainview Church of Christ Holiness USA in Baton Rouge. Jerry Donald Warren (Died Nov. 2, 2003) FRANKLINTON n Jerry Donald Warren, 66, a life-long resident of Franklinton, died early Sunday morning in Riverside Medical Center. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton for over 43 years and was an active deacon, former chairman of the deacons, and served on numerous committees. He was an active member of Merry Hearts, serving in the past as trip coordinator and bus driver. He also served many years as chaperone and bus driver for youth group mission trips and was the Boy Scout Troop 104 Scout Master for many years. He was also a member of the Franklinton Fire Department for over 30 years and served as chief for 11 of those years. He was a very active volunteer for the formation of Bowling Green School and served as a past president of the Bowling Green School Boosters Club. Well known for his funnel cake booth at the Washington parish Fair, he was an avid hunter who enjoyed traveling extensively and restoring antique clocks and furniture. He worked for Southern Natural Gas in Franklinton for 36 years and retired in 1993. Janice Faye Temples (Died Nov. 1, 2003) FRANKLINTON - Janice Faye Temples, age 45, a native of the Pine community and a long-time resident of Hammond Development Center (formerly Hammond State School) died at 5 p.m. Saturday at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond. She is survived by her father and step-mother, Johnny and Betty Temples of Pine; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny Ray and Patsy Temples, Kenneth Ray and Joanne Temples, all of Pine; two step-brothers, Keith Graves of Pine and Jeff Graves of Covington; four nephews, six great-nieces and two great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Azzie Lee Dykes Temples and a step-brother, Huey Wayne Dykes. Annie Brown-Sam (Died Oct. 26, 2003) CHICAGO, IL -- Annie Brown-Sam, 64, a native of the Live Oak community in Angie and a resident of Chicago, IL, died Oct. 26. While living in Live Oak, she attended Live Oak Church, Live Oak School, and Wesley High School, where she was a "star" basketball player. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Deborah (Carlton) Sam, Cindy (Alonzo) Sam, and Daphne Sam, all of Chicago; two grandchildren, Carlton Scott Binion II, and Sydni-Anne Chandler Pearson; father and stepmother, Robert and Mamie Brown of Amite; four brothers, Robert D. Carter, 92, a longtime resident of Franklinton and a resident of Plano, TX, died Tuesday night in Plano. She was preceded in death by Lester B. Ritchie, Odus Smith, and T.O. "Buster" Carter, and was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Ron Ritchie of Plano; 12 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Ouida Welch of Franklinton and Thelma Blanchard of River Ridge. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Otis, Artis, Delma, Leamon, and Dorman Lambert. Visitation was held yesterday at Crain Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. and will continue today from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral service, to be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. The Rev. Johnny Wesley Brumfield (Died Oct. 24, 2003) FRANKLINTON -- Johnny Wesley Brumfield Sr., 74, a native of Wilmer and a resident of LA Hwy. 440 in Kentwood, died October 24, 2003 in Riverside Medical Center. He was a member of the Silver Creek Jubilee for many, many years. Survivors include his wife, Lillie Brumfield of Kentwood; two sons, Johnny Wesley (Ernestine) Brumfield Jr. and Melton Jerome Brumfield of Kentwood; two sisters, Emma Jean (Howard) Rome and Cora (James) Williams of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two god daughters, Rexquille Dyson and Jacquetta Huff; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
