COVINGTON - Dazya Jaliyal McGowan , Bogalusa, departed this life Tuesday at
Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington.
She is the daughter of Natalie Hooper and William McGowan. Crain and Sons
Funeral Home of Bogalusa will be in charge of funeral arrangements, which are
incomplete.
Veda L. Carter
(Died Oct. 28,2003)
PLANO, TX. - Verda L. Carter, 92, a former longtime resident of Franklinton,
died Tuesday night in her home in Plano, Texas.
Carter was preceded in death by Lester B. Ritchie, Odus Smith and T.O. "Buster"
Carter. Carter was a member of First Baptist Church.
Carter is survived by a son, Ron Ritchie of Plano, and 12 grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in
the funeral home chapel with the Revs. Jim Bain and Ben Morgan officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ellis Cemetery.
Penny Thomas Kennedy
(Died Oct. 28, 2003)
THOMAS - Penny Thomas Kennedy, 40, died at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday in her
residence in Thomas.
Kennedy was a teacher's aide at Thomas Junior High and a member of Bible
Baptist Church.
Kennedy is survived by her husband Jody Kennedy and three children, Joseph
Kennedy, Jacey Kennedy, and Paris Kennedy; her father J.W. Thomas; and
stepmother Peggy Thomas, all of the Thomas area. She is also survived by sisters
and brothers-in-law Theresa and Kerwin Vogt of Sheridan; Lawanna Thomas,
Shone and Bill McNeese of Thomas; Helen and Joey Moore of Improve, MS; a
brother and sister-in-law, J.T. and Elisa Thomas of Thomas, numerous nieces and
nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother,
Violet L. Thomas.
Visitation will be at Bible Baptist Church after 4 p.m. today until the time of the
funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. The Revs. Harold Gaddy and
Denny Brumfield will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cauley Thomas Family
Cemetery.

LACOMBE - Annie Bell Lampton Sartin, 74, known as "Tut,", of Bogalusa,
departed this life at 1 a.m. today at Louisiana Heart Hospital in LaCombe. Crain &

COVINGTON - Masel Lang Corkern, 77, a lifelong resident of the Sheridan
community, died at 7:15 p.m. Monday in St. Tammany Parish Hospital in

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Daniel E. Corkern Jr. of Sheridan; her

O'Bryant, all of Sheridan, and Mark and Nancy Corkern of the Stateline

Scott Hobgood, Paul Hobgood, Josh Strahan, Jennifer Corkern Harris, Jessica

her great-grandchildren, Madelynne Fontenot, Kiersten Harris, Jaylyn Hobgood,

The funeral service was to be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m.

BOGALUSA n Willie Mae Hatthorne Gill, 86, a resident of Bogalusa, died last
night in the LSU Bogalusa Medical Center. She was a retired cook with the
Bogalusa School System.
She is survived by three sons, Bro. Billy (Margaret) Gill, Jack (Betty) Gill, and
Larry Gill; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was her husband, Adough Gill; a son, Ollie Gill; two
daughters, Dorothy Gill Grimes, and Julie Gill.
Visitation will be held at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home today from 5-10 p.m.
and again tomorrow morning from 8 a.m. until time of the funeral service, to be
conducted from the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Bros. Ed Jenkins and Billy Gill
will officiate at the service.

AMITE n Myrna D. Creel, 72, a native of Tylertown, MS and a resident of Amite,
died yesterday at noon in her home.
She is survived by her husband, James R. Stephens of Amite; her children, David
Lee Callihan of Benton, TN, Herbert Lynn Callihan of Greensburg, Sharon Marie
Callihan of Bolivar, Delores Gail Callihan of Amite, Janice Mae Callihan of
Tangipahoa, Kenneth Ernest Callihan of Kentwood, William Albert Callihan Jr. of
Chesbrough, and Bruce Callihan of Kentwood; four sisters, Vivian Williams of
Bogalusa, Gloria Jean Woods of Tylertown, MS, Pauline Ridgedell of Bogalusa,
and Juanita Creel of Bogalusa; two brothers, Ralph Creel of Cleveland, TN, and
T.C. Creel Jr. of Crosby, TX; and numerous grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a son, Dennis Ray Callihan; a daughter, Debra Ann
Lee; and three sisters, Hattie Lee Blackwell, Ruthie Lee Steele, and Evie Lee
Dunaway.

FRANKLINTON n Jesse Lee Cooper, 89, a resident of the Stateline community,
died Sunday in Riverside Medical Center. He was a retired petroleum technician
with Texaco.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Helen Sharp Cooper of Stateline; a
daughter and son-in-law, Donnie and Bobby Michel of Mt. Pisgah; a son and
daughter-in-law, Clinton and Carol Cooper of Covington; two brothers, Lloyd and
Faye Cooper of Gulfport, MS, and Vaught and Madeline Cooper of Georgia; four
grandsons, Bill Cooper, Scott Cooper, Robby Michel, and Michael Michel; eight
great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles Edward Cooper and Sally Claude
Russell Cooper; his brothers, Will, Mitchell, Toxie, and Johnny Cooper; and a
young sister, Golden Jewel Cooper.
Visitation will be held at Crain Funeral Home from 6-10 p.m. today and will
continue after 10 a.m. tomorrow at Morgantown Church of God near Foxworth,

BOGALUSA n Chalmers Lee Spears, 78, a resident of Bogalusa, died Saturday in
LSU Medical Center of Bogalusa.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Jenkins Spears of Bogalusa; a son, Robert Earl
Spears and his wife Nancy of Bogalusa; a daughter, Gwendolyn S. Cooper of
Bogalusa; four sisters, Ruthie Mae McDaniel of Bogalusa, Johnnie Myrle Seals of
Kentwood, Frankie Sandifer of Bogalusa, Dottie Sue Freeman of Bogalusa; seven
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Dewayne Spears; and his parents,
Chalmers and Allie Spears.

sisters, Verteal Patterson of Warwick, RI, Alvenia (Donald Ray) Nichols of
Varnado, and Gloria (James) McNair of Purvis, MS; three brothers, Walter (Stella)
Beck and Alvin (Bobbie) Beck, both of Bogalusa, and John (Linda) Beck of
Purvis, three sisters-in-law, Mary Lanier, Ollie Brown, both of Memphis, TN, and
Joronda Collins of Los Angeles, CA; three brothers-in-law, Allen and Albert
Brown, both of Memphis, TN, and Walter Fleming of Tucson; six grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren; and a host of special friends, aunts, uncles, nieces, and

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Beck Sr.

Viola Miley Wehmeyer
(Died Oct. 23, 2003)
METAIRIE n Viola Miley Wehmeyer, 81, a resident of Bogalusa, died yesterday
in East Jefferson Hospital. She was a retired teacher and a member of the Bogalusa
Retired Teacher's Association and Kappa Kappa Iota. Also an active member of
Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many
years.
Survivors include a son, Gary Wehmeyer of Bogalusa; a daughter and son-in-law,
Melva Lea and Kenny Stewart of Greenwell Springs; grandchildren, Kyle and Kelli
Stewart of Greenwell Springs; a sister and brother-in-law, Sadie and Albert
Johnston of Bogalusa; a sister and brother-in-law, Mavis and Henry Creel of
Franklinton; a sister, Mildred Camp of Franklinton; and special friends, Minnie Lea
and Vernon Hoke of Bogalusa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin G. Wehmeyer; her parents,
Bessie and Hamp Miley; a sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Johnny Carpenter;
and a brother-in-law, Shelby Camp.

FRANKLINTON - Beth Ann Guillot Weilbaecher, age 25, went home to be with
the Lord yesterday at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington.
She is survived by three children, Alexis Jones, Gabrielle Barney and Alyssa
Weilbaecher; her mother and step-father, Ann and Ralph Smith of Mt. Hermon;
her father, Sidney Guillot of Gretna; a brother, Michael Guillot of Gretna; three
sisters and brothers-in-law, Jolie and Toney Gerald of Thomas, Gina and Gary
Bozeman of Covington; Erin and Adolphus "Peanut" Johnson of Franklinton;
grandparents, Marie Lucas of Algiers and Ralph "Doc" and Vivian Smith of Mt.
Hermon; numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and beloved friend of Tracey
Spears and Bubby Sercovich.
Her grandparents, Shirlie Lucas, Andrew and Gloria Guillot and an aunt, Shirell
Lucas Hosch, preceded her in death.

Myrtis Lucille "Skeeter" Strahan

BOGALUSA - Myrtis Lucille "Skeeter" Strahan, age 72, died Friday in her
residence at Crossroads. She was a life-long member of the American Legion
Auxiliary, which she served two terms as president.
She is survived by two sons, William E. Strahan of Bogalusa and Harold Stan
Strahan of Crossroads; a daughter, Susan Strahan Prisock of Brandon MS; two
brothers, J.D. Holmes of Gonzales and Buster Holmes of Bogalusa; a sister, Jackie
Holmes of Houston, TX; and seven grandchildren: Misty Dickins, Shane Boler,
Amber Strahan, Justin Powell, Cody Powell, Alaina Strahan and Amy Strahan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Harold Strahan; a brother,
Charles Holmes; two sisters, Willa Mae Woodward and Helen Mitchell; a
grandchild, Curtis Strahan; and her parents, John Thomas and Hattie Ellis Holmes.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home.

FRANKLINTON n Earline Smith Moak, 46, a resident of Franklinton, died at
3:40 p.m. yesterday in her home. She was an employee for Rutter Rex in
Franklinton for many years.
Survivors include her husband, David Joseph Moak Sr. of Franklinton; a son,
David Joseph "Joey" Moak Jr. of Franklinton; three daughters and sons-in-law,
Mandy and Lee Davis, Elizabeth Moak, all of Franklinton, and Felicia' and Chris
Forbes of Pine; grandchildren, Kimberlie and Will Davis, Dalton Fobes, and
Nickolas Moak; her mother, Carline T. Smith of Varnado; three brothers and
sisters-in-law, Vernon and Rhonda Smith of Varnado, Ed and Shirley Smith of
Angie, and Kelly and Mary Smith of Pine; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline
and Robert Robertson of Varnado, and B.J. and Mike Stringer of Bogalusa; seven
nieces and six nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Smith.

BOGALUSA - The funeral service for Rhonda Jean Stogner Jarrell, age 51, will be
held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry
Mizell and the Rev. Lloyd Camp will officiate, with interment following in the New
Hope Church Cemetery at Crossroads.
Visitation will be observed tomorrow from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral
service.
A resident of Angie, she died Thursday at her home.
She is survived by her husband, Aubrey Jarrell of Angie; three daughters and

BOGALUSA - The funeral service for Revia Alford, age 95, was held yesterday at
11:30 a.m. in the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Lloyd Camp
officiated, with interment in Hillview Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was held yesterday from 9:30 to time of service at the funeral home.
A member of the Monroe Street Baptist Church and a resident of Bogalusa, she
died Thursday in Ponchatoula.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Winburn and husband Arvel
of Hammond; a daughter-in-law, Frances Alford of Denham Springs; five
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Audel Alford; a son, John Ray Alford;
her parents, John and Mary Henley; six sisters and one brother.
Juanita Roach Mizell
(Died Oct. 21, 2003)
BOGALUSA n Juanita Roach Mizell, 79, a resident of Bogalusa, departed after a
lengthy illness with cancer Tuesday in her home. A devoted wife and loving
mother, she retired from the Bogalusa School System as secretary of Long Avenue
School and was a faithful member of Ben's Ford Baptist Church, family members
said.
Survivors include her husband, Hubert H. Mizell of Bogalusa; two sons, Kenneth
Roach, and Gary Roach and his wife Cindy, all of Bogalusa; two daughters, Anita
Thomas of Pine, and Betty Moran and her husband Richard of Bogalusa; a
step-daughter, Shelia Anthaume and her husband Octave of Lafayette; a sister, Joy
Keen of Bogalusa; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death was her first husband, Hubert B. Roach; her parents,
William and Mary Bush; and three sisters, Elsie Corkern, Edna Giordano, and
Rose Mae Jones.

COVINGTON n Harold Fussell, 77, a resident of Franklinton, died at 6:46 p.m.
yesterday in St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. He was a retired
Lieutenant of Louisiana State Police and a member of Fisher Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Varnado Fussell of Franklinton; two
daughters and a son-in-law, Janna Wood, Sherri and Earle R. Brown Jr., all of
Franklinton; three grandchildren, Emily Wood, JoAnna Wood, and Barrett Brown,
all of Franklinton; a sister, Jessie Lee Erwin of Franklinton; and a brother, Aubrey
Fussell of Baton Rouge.
Preceding him in death were his parents, J.C. and Bessie Stafford Fussell; a sister,

died Tuesday in Riv-erside Medical Center.
She is survived by three daughters, Ungil (James) Handy, Jessie Miller, all of
Franklinton, and Alvia Mae Buchanan of Bakersfield, CA; one son, Silas Bickham
of Franklinton; one sister, Nancy Lee Thompson of California; twenty-nine
grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren, nieces,

Hermon Baptist Church and the widow of Jeptha Alford.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Wyman Gill of Mt.
Hermon, and Susan Searcy of Amite; three grandchildren, Amy Bourgeois of
Vicksburg, Cliff Searcy III, and Robert Searcy, both of Amite; and several nieces
and nephews.

Sandra Melancon of Lafayette; two sons, Frank Ray Sibley Jr. and Steven Leslie
Sibley, both of Slidell; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Frank Ray Sibley; and her parents, Steve
Trascher and Debra peters Trascher.

Bogalusa and Elsie Brown of Baton Rouge; and four grandchildren, D'Andra
"Sam" Dillon, Taylor Dillon, Titus "Little Man" Dillon, and Maggie Faith Crain.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Faye Crain; two sons, John Hampton Crain
and Elmer R. Crain Jr.; and his parents, John H. Crain and Eliza Mitchell Crain.

Dorothy Nell Longino Lewis

BOGALUSA n Dorothy Nell Longino Lewis, 64, a resident of Florence Avenue in
Bogalusa, died Thursday in the LSU Bogalusa Medical Center.
Born May 29, 1937 to the late Arner and Cornelia Longino, at an early age she
accepted Christ at the Springhill Baptist Church of Silver Creek, MS.
United in holy matrimony to Hilbert Lewis Sr., to this union four children were
born, Hilbert, Donald, Douglas, and Chrystel-la.
Family members said Lewis' children were the joy of her life and she would do
anything for them.
Lewis later joined Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church were she served faithfully
as president of the Senior Mission and Matron of the Junior Choir. She also served
as president of the Senior Choir and as a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include three sons, Hilbert Lewis of Oakdale, Donald (Ida) Lewis of
Silver Creek, and Douglas (Deteral) Lewis of New Orleans; a daughter, Chrystella
(Malcolm) Lewis Crump of Silver Creek; a brother, Aaron (Mary Longino of
Gary, IN; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a son she reared as her
own, Tony Messina of Bogalusa; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many
friends including close friends, Sandra Lewis, Leonea Andrews, Mary Helen
Williams, and Barbara Walker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arner and Cornelia Longino; three
brothers, Joseph, Leon, and McGuffie Longino; and a grandson, Willie Rochelle
Young Jr.
Visitation will be held tomorrow at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home from 2-5 p.m.
A wake service will follow at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church from 6-8 p.m.

Cora Guillot Singletary

PEARL RIVER - Cora Guillot Singletary, age 82, died Friday at her residence. A
native and life-long resident of Pearl River, she was retired as lunchroom manager
at Sixth Ward Junior High School and a member of the Pine Grove United
Pentecostal Church.
The wife of the late Hezzie Singletary, she is the mother of Mac D. Singletary and
the mother-in-law of Mary Sue Parker Singletary; the daughter of the late
Ebenezer and Evie Guillot; the sister of Helen Crawford Young and the late
Dudley Guillot; and the grandmother of Patty Davis, Dan Singletary, James
Singletary and the late Terry Douglas Singletary.
She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was held beginning at 7 p.m. yesterday in the Pine Grove United
Pentecostal Church, 67109 Chris Kennedy Road, Pearl River.

Springs; several nephews, including Ralph Paige Jr. and wife Nicole, and Brian
Johnson, all of Bogalusa; two great-nieces, Cheyanne Leonard of Abita Springs

Springs; two special friends, Ted Johnson of Bogalusa and Liberty Edwards of
Mississippi; numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donovan

Covington. She was born March 23, 1925 in Baton Rouge, and was a devoted
wife and mother who loved the Lord, family members said.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Willard Simmons of Mt. Hermon;
three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly Simmons of Mt. Hermon, Rhea and
Marvin Steffen of Naples, FL, and Barbara and Phil Pool of Wichita Falls, TX; a
son and daughter-in-law, Willard Jr. and Irene Simmons of Canyon Country, CA;
five grandchildren, Dana, Trevor, Stacy, Charis and Lindsey; four
step-grandchildren, Anthony, DeeDee, Jesse, and Kayleigh; four
great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jessica, Chelsea, and Seth; and two sisters, Dorothy

Church under the leadership of Dr. Raymond Mims.
She leaves to cherish and mourn her memories her husband, Bernard Magee of
Bogalusa; two devoted daughters, Beverly (Curtis) Fairley of Atlanta, GA,
Bernette Magee of Bogalusa; six devoted sons, Donald Magee, Darryl Magee,

Jessie Billings Huff

OCEANSIDE, CA n Jessie Billings Huff, 95, a native of Plaquemine Point, former
resident of Bogalusa, and a resident of Oceanside, died Thursday in the LSU
Regional Medical Center in Bogalusa.
Born Nov. 21, 1907, in Plaquemine Point to Ida Mae Langlois Billings and Abram
Issac Billings, she came to Bogalusa with her family Jan. 1, 1910. Later that same
year her mother died and her father passed away when she was 10 years old.
Family members said she was lovingly reared by an older sister, Ida Elizabeth
"Lizzie" Carlisle.
In 1925, at the age of 18 she went to work at Southern Bell Telephone and
Telegraph Company. She retired from the company after 38 years as an operator in
1963.
She married William G. "Bill" Huff in 1931. Family members said she was a tireless
housekeeper, dedicated wife and loving mother to her only child.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Rodney Ledet of
Oceanside, CA; four grandchildren, Lora L. Manzo and husband, Guido of
Flemington, NJ, William Alcide and wife Michelle Ledet, Rodney Huey Ledet II
and wife, Rosmarie, and Dana Ledet Parrill and husband, Marty, all of Oceanside;
and two great-granddaughters, Melanie D. Manzo, who is a junior at the U.S.
Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and Marissa L. Manzo, a junior at Hunterdon
Central High School in Flemington.
Local survivors include several nieces and nephews, "Bub" and Alma Carlisle,
Marie and Don Borde, Alvan Billings and Sylvia Carlisle Lorio of Ponchatoula.

died Tuesday in Poplarville. He was a member of Ford's Creek Baptist Church and
attended Bethel Baptist Church. A student at Poplarville High School, he loved to
fish and play guitar and sing, family members said. He also enjoyed the company of
his best friend, Dinh and loved football and four-wheelers.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Johnson of Poplarville; three
sisters, Janet Culpepper Delancey and her husband Jeff of Columbia, MS, Delilah
J. "D.J." Culpepper of Poplarville and Kimberly Myree Johnson; a brother, Marvin
Allen Johnson of Bogalusa; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and two
nephews, Zach Delancy of Columbia, MS and Travis Stewart Johnson of
Bogalusa.
He was preceded in death by his uncle, Donald Wayne Johnson; his paternal
grandparents, Herman and Myree Johnson; and his maternal grandparents, Buddy
and Lena Denis.

Jessie Billings Huff

OCEANSIDE, CA n Jessie Billings Huff, 95, a native of Plaquemine Point, former
resident of Bogalusa, and a resident of Oceanside, died Thursday in the LSU
Regional Medical Center in Bogalusa.
Born Nov. 21, 1907, in Plaquemine Point to Ida Mae Langlois Billings and Abram
Issac Billings, she came to Bogalusa with her family Jan. 1, 1910. Later that same
year her mother died and her father passed away when she was 10 years old.
Family members said she was lovingly reared by an older sister, Ida Elizabeth
"Lizzie" Carlisle.
In 1925, at the age of 18 she went to work at Southern Bell Telephone and
Telegraph Company. She retired from the company after 38 years as an operator in
1963.
She married William G. "Bill" Huff in 1931. Family members said she was a tireless
housekeeper, dedicated wife and loving mother to her only child.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Rodney Ledet of
Oceanside, CA; four grandchildren, Lora L. Manzo and husband, Guido of
Flemington, NJ, William Alcide and wife Michelle Ledet, Rodney Huey Ledet II
and wife, Rosmarie, and Dana Ledet Parrill and husband, Marty, all of Oceanside;
and two great-granddaughters, Melanie D. Manzo, who is a junior at the U.S.
Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and Marissa L. Manzo, a junior at Hunterdon
Central High School in Flemington.
Local survivors include several nieces and nephews, "Bub" and Alma Carlisle,
Marie and Don Borde, Alvan Billings and Sylvia Carlisle Lorio of Ponchatoula.
Visitation will be at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home in Bogalusa Turesday from
3:30-9 p.m. with at Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home

BOGALUSA - Thomas Matthew Hill Sr., 78, a resident of Bogalusa, died Friday
at LSU Regional Medical Center in Bogalusa. A life-long resident of Bogalusa, he
was retired from Gaylord Paper Mill and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having
served in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Aleyene M. Hill of Bogalusa; a daughter and
son-in-law, Ann H. and Calvin E. Irvine Sr. of Bogalusa; a son and

She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a volunteer worker with

Hospital in Lafayette. A graduate of Enon High School near Franklinton and a
graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, he had a love
for the outdoors especially hunting and fishing, family members said, adding that
he also enjoyed working with cars and building engines.
An employee of Sperry Sun in Lafayette in the wire line Steering tool division, he
later worked his way into the multishot and gyro surveying. Later he switched into
the directional drilling where he worked for Smith International, I.D.R. and
Helmer, Inc., becoming a directional drilling consultant.
Survivors include his fiancé, Linda Brown of Lafayette; his parents, Marne and
Venna Magee Thompson of Bogalusa; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and
Johnny Squyres, Marnie and Bill Dove, Cathy and Mike Scott, all of Baton Rouge,
and Maida and Larry Smith of Glenmora; and a brother, Merrick Thompson of
Lafayette.

Ladner and Stephanie (Daren) Roberts, all of Bogalusa; three brothers, Charles
(Barbara) Gutter, Craft (Pat) Martin, and Henry (Jackie) Martin of Franklinton;
seven sisters, Ida Mae Smith, Sadie Marshall, Lela Spikes, all of Bogalusa,
Leandra (Samuel) Miller of New Orleans, Rose (Richard) Lowe, Etta Dean
Magee, and Christine (Jeff) Clark, all of Franklinton; 35 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Letha Speights Keller and Henry Luther
Martin; three brothers, George Keller, Eugene Keller, and Carter Keller; and two
sisters, Lillie Mae Cleighton and Mary Martin.
Visitation will be held Friday at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from
2-6 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church in
Bogalusa at noon with the Rev. James Magee officiating. Interment will follow in
the Bogalusa Cemetery.

BOGALUSA n Terrence "Pepper" Nathaniel Magee, 19, a resident of Bascom
Avenue in Bogalusa, died Sept. 25 in Resthaven Living Center in Bogalusa.
He is survived by three uncles, Johnny (Lorraine) Magee, Craft (Cheryl) Jackson,
both of Bogalusa, and Benjamin Jackson of Beggs, OK; four aunts, Geaneail
Magee of Bogalusa, Diane Wilson of Leesville, Valerie Hammond of Beggs, and
Hattie Lee Magee of Vellejo, Co; his mother, Jeanette Jackson of Bogalusa; three
brothers, Keith Roy (Angela) Magee, Marcus Wayne Tillman, and Alfonso DeJune
Magee, all of Bogalusa; four sisters, Samantha Magee of Bogalusa, Sanchicaun
(James) Washington of Baton Rouge, Dawn Harris of Houston, and Vernita
Magee of Bogalusa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was his father, Nathaniel Jackson; his grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Johnnie Magee, and Mr. and Mrs. Craft Jackson; and an aunt, Irene
Bagget.
Visitation will be held tomorrow at Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Bogalusa
from 2-6 p.m. with a family hour from 6-7 p.m.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Bogalusa High School
auditorium. Eld. Leon Chambers will officiate at the service.
Burial will follow in the Bogalusa Cemtery.
Shirley Temple Jones
(Died Oct. 1, 2003)
COVINGTON n Shirley Temple Jones, 67, a resident of Franklinton, died
yesterday in St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.
She is survived by thee sons, Clarence Charles Tribe of Houma, Norman Tribe,
and Harvey Tribe, both of Franklinton; two daughters, Debbie Tribe of Florida and
Violet Tribe of Franklinton; a sister, Margie Eckles of Tunica, MS; 16
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Glenn
Tribe; her second husband, A.G. Jones; a son, David Lee Tribe; a brother, Arthur
Stanley; a sister, Margaret Laberron; and her parents, Dike and Dora Ella Baldwin.
Visitation will be held tomorrow at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home from 5-10
p.m. and will continue Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of the funeral service, to be
conducted from the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. The Rev. Bobby Spears will
conduct the service.
Burial will follow in the Thomas Cemetery.
