She was the widow of J. C. Welch and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She is survived by three grandchildren, Rickey and Jackie Nobles, John and Cheryle Nobles, all of Summit, and Rene' and Kirk Potts of Kentwood; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Rita Anderson of Franklinton. She was also preceded in death by a son, Carl Nobles; her parents, Walter O. and Grace Stephenson; four brothers and three sisters. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 pm until 8 pm Wednesday. Visitation continued after 9 am Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church with the funeral service at 10 am Thursday at the church with Rev. Stan Statham officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Brumfield, Bill Ratcliff, Joe Norris, Leroy Toney, Billy Ray Sumrall, and James A. Jenkins. Interment followed in the Morris Cemetery. James L. Pettit, Lakeland, FL James L. Pettit, a native of Franklinton and longtime resident of Lakeland, FL, died at Lakeland Hospital on Friday, April 18, 2003. He was 79 years old. He was a member of the Coast Guard for four years and was later self-employed and was retired. He was a 1941 graduate of Franklinton High School. Pettit is survived by his wife, Magdalon (Luter) Pettit of Lakeland, and three daughters, Frances Phillips, Jackie Pettit and Pat Robinson, all of the Lakeland area. He is also survived by a sister, Ann Jones of Fort Worth, TX; and two brothers, Wilton Pettit of Franklinton and Bobby Pettit of Baton Rouge. A private funeral was held in Florida.
