He was a member of Clifton Baptist Church and the widow of Mary Lee Thompson. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of Korean War. He is survived by a son Ricardo Thompson of N. M.; a daughter, Rebecca Fesperman of Franklinton; two grandsons, Scott Hardy of Tylertown and Shane Hardy of Franklinton; a granddaughter; a sister, Ervis Dale Godfrey of Richton, MS; and a host of special friends to numerous to mention. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Rose Hinton Thompson; and a sister, Ordean Moore. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 pm until 9 pm Wednesday and after 9 am Thursday. A funeral service was held at 11 am Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ed Griffin and Rev. Toney Hicks officiating. Pallbearers were Donnie Hughes, Kelly Hughes, Sid Kennedy, Loyd Smith, James Dillon, Kenneth Lee and Joe Warren. Honorary pallbearers were the Adult's Men's Sunday School Class of Clifton Baptist Church. Interment was in the Rushing Cemetery in Tylertown. Gaynell Serpas Barnett, Metairie Gaynell Serpas Barnett, 81, of Metairie, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003. She is survived by two children, Herbert Gilfoy Barnett, Jr. and Carol Barnett Huber; three grandchildren, Phyllis Barnett, B. J. Barnett and Christopher Barnett; and a sister, Leatrice Lupold. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Gilfoy Barnett, Sr.; her parents, Ernest J. Serpas and Ruth Reichert Serpas; and a brother -in-law, Harold Serpas. Visitation was at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home from 10 am until time for a funeral service held at 12 pm in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday, August 8. Interment was in the Metairie Cemetery. Charles Magee, Franklinton Charles Magee, 76, a resident of Franklinton, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He is survived by three daughters, Hilda Magee of Franklinton, Linda Magee of New Orleans and LaTonya Magee of Columbia, GA; eight sons, Milton Magee, Gary Magee, Wayneard Magee, Willie Earl Magee, Junior Lee, J. W. Lee, Paul Lee of Franklinton and Ricky Magee of Columbia, GA; two sisters, Lillie Mae Hart and Gabe Causey of New Orleans; a brother, Fleet Magee of New Orleans; 20 grandchildren; 8 great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Visitation was at Crain and Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3 pm until 8 pm with family hour from 7 pm until 8 pm. A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 30 at 11 am at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Causey officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Leroy Hart, Franklinton Leroy Hart, 70, a resident of Franklinton, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington. He was survived by his wife, Eva Nell Hart of Franklinton; two daughters, Barbara (Thomas) Hart of Franklinton and Gwen Hart of Slidell; three sons, Gary Hart of New Orleans, Leonard Hart and Billie Hart of Franklinton; five sisters, Betty Bickham and Freddie Young of Franklinton; Irma Tuskson, Catherine Martin and Lona Mae Anthony of New Orleans; two brothers, Lester (Shirley) Anthony of Franklinton and Murphy James (Pat) Anthony of New Orleans; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a daughter-in-law, Corrine Holmes of Franklinton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was at Crain and Sons Funeral Home on Friday, August 1st from 3 pm until 8 pm with family hour from 7 pm until 8 pm. Creola Davis, New Orleans Creola Davis, 56, a resident of New Orleans and a native of Franklinton , died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at her son's residence in Harvey, LA. She is survived by two sons, Keith (Teresa) Davis and Kevin Davis of Harvey; her mother, Della Mae Davis of Franklinton; five sisters, Verdine House of Franklinton, Genora Bickham, Linda Franklin, Diane Covington and Bronice Duplessis of New Orleans; two brothers, Scottie Davis of Roanoke, VA and Phillip Davis of New Orleans; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A funeral service was held Friday, August 1 at 7:30 pm at Morning Star Baptist Church in New Orleans with Rev. Lawrence Gaines officiating. A dismissal service was held Saturday, August 2 at 10 am. Interment was in the Bell Cemetery. Walter M. Dykes, Franklinton Walter M. Dykes, 57, a resident of Franklinton, died at 4 am Friday, August 8, 2003 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. He is survived by a son, Kelly Joe Dykes of Hammond; four daughters, Lecia Dykes of Baton Rouge, Kim Dykes of Ponchatoula, Krystal Dykes of Mandeville and Shannon Dykes of Folsom; two brothers, Talmadge Dykes and Jerry Dykes, both of Franklinton; five sisters, Dorothy Bright of Independence, Meveleen Reviere and Kathleen Lee, both of Franklinton, Nell Perryman of Gillsburg and Carolyn Pierce of Poplarville; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Vida Spears Dykes and five sisters. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 6 pm until 10 pm Saturday and after 9 am Sunday. A funeral service was held at 2 pm Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Patrick Miller and Rev. Walter Pierce officiating. Pallbearers were Randy Dykes, Donald Dykes, Jr. Pierce, Ron Moffett, David Galloway, David Smith Jr., and Richard Carter. Interment was in the Nobles Cemetery.
