"Soul" Jones, 70, a native and resident of Franklinton and longtime resident of Covington died at 8:25 am Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at his residence. He was a retired supervisor with CLECO in Covington and member of Enon Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mona Watson Jones of Franklinton; two sons and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Susan Jones of Franklinton and Keith Jones of Covington; a daughter, Karen Sambola of Franklinton; four grandchildren, Richard Sambola, Brittany Jones, Brandi Jones, and Brook Jones; and a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Gwen Jones of Franklinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bolivar and Veda Corkern Jones and three brothers, Boyd Jones, Ray Jones and Clyde Jones. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 pm until 9 pm Wednesday and after 8 am Thursday. A funeral service was held at 11 am Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in the Springhill-Magee Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Watson, Richard Sambola, R. A. Jones, David Jones, Vic Jones, and Kenneth Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Everett Gulino, Hugh V. Bateman, Houston Galloway, Harlan Bell, H. A. Jones and Jessie Taylor. Dorothy Pierce Bell, Franklinton Dorothy Pierce Bell, 83, a resident of Franklinton, died at 4 pm Thursday, August 21, 2003 at her residence. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and held local, district and state offices of Untied Methodist Women. She was an avid artist and quilter. She is survived by her husband, J. W. Bell, Jr. of Franklinton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Pierce of Shreveport and Barry and Monica Burris Pierce of Covington; a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Pierce Burris and Judge Wm. J. Burris of Franklinton; eight grandchildren, Jason Pierce of Denver, CO, Jennifer Burris Veillon of Sugarland, TX, Katie Burris of Nashville, TN, Johnny Burris of Ruston, LA, Billy Burris of Franklinton, Liz Smith of New Orleans, John Pierce of Covington, and Laura Pierce Werner of Picayune, MS; two great-grandchildren Anthony Paul Werner and Carter Joseph Veillon; two step children, Richard Bell of Memphis, TN and John Wm. Bell III of Franklinton; five step grandchildren and ten step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvell Pierce; her parents, Rev. and Mrs. R. I. Bell; and a sister, Jean Bell. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 6 pm until 9 pm Friday. Visitation continued after 9 am Saturday at the Centenary United Methodist Church with the funeral service to be held at 11 am Saturday with Rev. Lyndle Bullard officiating. Burial followed in the Morris Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jason Pierce, John Pierce, Billy Burris, Johnny Burris, Chris Veillon and Tony Werner. Milferd Creel, Franklinton Milferd Creel, 76, a resident of Franklinton, died at 3 am Saturday, August 23, 2003 at the Riverside Medical Center. He was a retired carpenter and longtime member and song leader at Springhill and Victory Baptist churches. He is survived by three sons, Emile Creel of Old Bridge, NJ, Linsey Creel of Clinton, LA, and Ralph Creel of Woodbury, GA; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Creel of Franklinton and Denford Creel of Bogalusa; four sisters, Chessie Newman, Gladys Ard and Linda Byrd all of Franklinton, and Darnell Phillips of Quincy, IL; a sister-in-law, Inez Creel of Zachary; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Ollie Carpenter Creel; and a brother, Carlos Creel. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 pm until 10 pm Sunday and after 8 am Monday. A funeral service was held at 10 am Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Larry Jenkins and Rev. Larry Archote officiating. Burial was in the Springhill-Magee Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Scott, Andy, Adam, and Chad Creel and nephews, Glynn and Mark Newman and Ricky Byrd.
