He retired from Southern National after 35 years of service, the last 9 years he served as plant supervisor at Dexter. He spent the last 10 years enjoying cattle farming, hunting, golf and grandchildren. Those who knew him well knew he was kind, loyal and helpful to all. He will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Jean Rivet Thomas of Frandlinton; three sons and daughters-in-law, James Harold and Tracey Thomas of Franklinton, Dennis Joseph and Denise Thomas of Mandeville, and Danny Allen and Jennifer Thomas of Pine; three sisters, Thelma Watson of Bogalusa, Pauline Lumpdin of Franklinton and Betty Joyce Huges of Tylertown, MS; two brothers, Marvind Thomas and Glen Thomas both of Franklinton; eight grandchildren, Heath Thomas, Brandi Hingle, Jimmy Crowe, April Thomas, Brandi Thomas, Sean Thomas, Abbigail Thomas and Carson Thomas; and a great-grandchild, Anna Hingle. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Hattie T. Thomas and Alphus Thomas. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Hom 6 pm until 9 pm Tuesday and after 9 am Wednesday. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Denny Brumfield officiating. Wednesday afternoon has been the traditional tee-time for James and his friends and seemed appropriate for a final farewell. Burial followed in the Thomas Cemetery. Pallbearers were Randall Mageee, Robbie Brown, Rod Sabiston, Ken Shelton, Tracy Breland and Ronnie Gill --------------------------------------------------------------------- Olin Amos "Sonny" Harmon, Sr., Independence Olin Amos "sonny Harmon, Sr. 61, a native and resident of Independence, LA died at 2:47 am Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center in Independence, LA. He is survived by his wife, Angelica R. Harmon of Independence; three daughters, Kaline Tabor of Pearl River, Andria Sparacino of Denham Springs, and Tara Lynn Credeur of Walker; a son, Olin Amos "Sonny" Harmon, Jr.of Independence; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; his mother, Rushell Durbin Harmon of Independence; a sister, Debra Dickson of Independence; and a brother, David Harmon of Franklinton. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Olin Q. Harmon. Visitation was at McKneely Funeral Home in Amite from 6 pm until 9 pm on Wednesday and from 8 am until religious services at 11 am Thursday. Interment was in the Amite Cemetery in Amite. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Samuel Fred Bateman, 85, a resident of Franklinton died at 12 noon, Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Jo Ellen Smith Convalescent Center in New Orleans. He was a US Navy retiree. He is survived by his wife, Helen E. Bateman of Franklinton; two daughters, Miriam B. Juno of New Orleans and Heike Briley of Virginia; four grandchildren, Mark Briley, Matthew Briley, Nicole Juno and Ashley Juno; two brothers, Charles Bateman of Franklinton and Buck Bateman of Hammond; and a sister, Miriam Johnson of Houma. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 12 noon until 2 pm Sunday. A funeral service was held at 2 pm in the funeral chapel with Rev. Joe Wiggins officiating. Burial followed in the Ellis Cemetery. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Ariel Schoffen Erwin, Franklinton Airel Schoffen Erwin, 40, a resident of Franklinton died at 4:15 am Friday, December 19, 2003 at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Audrey M. Erwin of Franklinton; a stepson, Tyler Trahan of Franklinton; his mother, Lucia S. Erwin of Franklinton; an aunt, Helen Erwin of Biloxi; an uncle, Pinkey Erwin of Franklinto; seven aunts and uncles in Brazil; his Godfather, Henry Pozito of Kenner and his Godmother, Charlotte Cooper of Biloxi. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 pm until 10 pm Friday and after 9 am Saturday. A mass was held at 11 am Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Father Peter Hammett, O.S.B.
