Hyatt Franklinton man killed in accident A 37-year-old Franklinton man was killed early Sunday when his Ford Mustang overturned on James Creel Road east of Franklinton. Gerald D. Hyatt, of 45270 Byron Dillon Road, Franklinton, apparently died instantly when his car flipped over and rolled on top of him. A spokesman for the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office said Hyatt lost control of the Mustang and it rolled onto him, pinning him underneath. A passerby called the Sheriff's Office shortly after 5 am Sunday on his cell phone to report the accident. A deputy arrived at the scene about five minutes later but was unable to revive Hyatt. Assistant Washington Parish Coroner Dr. Chip McVea was called to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. According to the Sheriff's Office, alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the accident. However, as in all fatal accidents, blood samples were sent to the state lab for testing.
