Lewis Mizell (Died January 28, 2004) BOGALUSA n Lewis Mizell, a resident of Bogalusa, died yesterday in LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa. William Henry Sullivan Jr. (Died January 27, 2004) MANDEVILLE n William Henry Sullivan Jr., 77, a native of Bogalusa and a longtime resident of St. Tammany Parish, residing in Mandeville, died Tuesday in his home, peacefully in his sleep. He was a longtime active member of St. Timothy on the Northshore United Methodist Church and a man passionately dedicated to the welfare of his family, family members said. He was the husband of the late Katharine Elliott Sullivan; beloved father of Corinne Sullivan Arrowwood of Mandeville and the late William Elliott Sullivan; father-in-law of Douglas Andrew Arrowwood; son of the late William Henry Sullivan and Ellarose Salmen Sullivan; and brother of Ellarose Sullivan Carden of Mandeville. He was also survived by four grandchildren, Katharine Nichole Faulkner, Kristen Chetta Collura, Nicholas John Chetta III, and John William Sullivan Chetta; and six great-grandchildren, Megan Faulkner, Matthew Faulkner, Riley McWhorter, Brennon McWhorter, Kerrison McWhorter, and Ashley Faulkner. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service at St. Timothy on the Northshore United Methodist Church, located at 335 Asbury Street in Mandeville, Saturday at 11 a.m. A private family internment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery in Slidell at a later date. Cody Aaron Sheridan (Died January 28, 2004) COVINGTON n Cody Aaron Sheridan, 18, went to be with the Lord yesterday in St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington of bacterial men- ingitis. He was a 2003 honor graduate of Bogalusa High School and a 2003 member of the Lumberjack football, baseball, and basketball teams. A member of Lee's Creek Baptist Church, he was employed by Bogalusa Lumber Company. Sheridan was the much loved son of Shelly and Robyn Sheridan of Bogalusa, grandson of Virgil Hunt, Mary Kay Hunt, and Barbara Stogner, all of Bogalusa. He also had many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Shelly Sheridan Sr.; and his great-grandparents, Maxiel and Mary Hunt and Jason and Lillie Seal; and a cousin, Scott Hunt. Kyle Jones, 81, a resident of Enon, died at 2:15 a.m. yesterday in his home. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church and a retired tugboat captain and owner. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Winola and David Holliday of Bogalusa; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lionel Jones of Franklinton and Kaylor and Linda Jones of Bogalusa; three sisters, Vivian Richardson, Maxine Armstrong, both of Franklinton, and Valeska Case of Pearl River; seven grandchildren; and five-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife, Waver Thomas Jones; a son, Kyle Karson Jones; and a brother, Varnel Jones. Peters, 76, of Jones Creek Road in Angie, died last Saturday in Angie. At an early age he joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist and was baptized by the late Rev. B.B. Moses. He attended Jones Creek School and in 1945 married Ruth Thelma Sam-Peters. The couple had 11 children. She was a life-long resident and native of Franklinton. Jamie Wendell Holmes (Died January 23, 2004) TYLERTOWN, MS — Memorial services for Jamie Wendell Holmes, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Lexie Baptist Church. The Rev. Randall Griffin will officiate. Holmes, a resident of Tylertown, died at Walthall County General Hospital in Tylertown Friday. He was born May 13, 1921 in Walthall County, the son of the late James Walter and Maude Pounds Holmes. He was a salesman for the Cotton-Holsum Bakery Company. He was a member and deacon of Lexie Baptist Church, a former deacon of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Bogalusa, LA, and a Mason. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having served as a medic with the combat engineer battalion, he fought in North Africa, Italy, Southern France and pushed into Germany through Austria. Upon arrival in Germany, he served as one of the liberators of the concentration camp, Dachau. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife, Mavis Martin Holmes of Tylertown; two sons, Eddie Holmes of Scottsdale, AZ, and Ronald Holmes of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Bessie O'Connor of St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Maggie Lee Johnson Dantzler (Died January 18, 2004) GRETNA — Maggie Lee Johnson Dantzler, 84, died last Sunday at 11 a.m. at Meadow Crest Hospital in Gretna. Long Hospital in Pineville. She is survived by three sons, Robert Grady of Bogalusa, Junious Grady, and George Ellis Jr. of Franklinton; three brothers, Charles R. Grady of New Orleans, Argell Smith of Beltsville, MS, and Stanley Paul Smith of Gulfport, MS; and six sisters, Patricia Grady Martin of New Orleans, Mavis Claudette Daniels of Gulfport, Sherylyn Faye Smith of Oakland, CA, Sandra Grady, Robbye Grady Kemp, and Allilian Triciana Gardy, all of Jackson, MS. James Edwyn Battle (Died Jan. 18, 2004) BOGALUSA -- James Edwyn Battle, 61, a native of Shreveport residing in Bogalusa for the past 15 years, died Sunday. Born Sept. 18, 1942 to the late Henrietta Battle and the late Leamon Robinson, "Jim", as his friends and family knew him, was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Southern University in Baton Rouge. He had several professions during his lifetime. After college, he played professional football for the Cleveland Browns and the New Orleans Saints. He was a broadcast journalist in Monroe and Jacksonville, FL and also worked in the oil and gas industry for Schlumberger and Arco. An avid photographer and entrepreneur, Battle owned and operated a photography studio in Morgan City. He taught and coached in the Bogalusa City School System until recently. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, coaching, and spending time with his grandchildren family members said. Family members said she fought a courageous battle with cancer for the last five years of her life. In 1975, she chose to spend her retirement in Baton Rouge doing what she loved best, caring for her children and grandchildren, only leaving for short periods of time to take her side trips to see her other Wiggins, Orlando, and Seattle families. She served her family so lovingly and unselfishly making them her all- purpose reason for living, family members said, adding, "Her love, kindness and generosity branched out to literally thousands. Her sense of humor was truly incredible, not only making those around her laugh but she had the unique ability to laugh not only with, but at herself. An active member of Hebron Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher, Meals-on-Wheels, MMU and vacation bible school during her many years of service to her Lord. Thomas was a retired nurse, having worked for many years at Washington St. Tammany Charity Hospital. In her earlier years she worked for Gaylord Bag Factory and for several years as a self-employed beautician. She and her late husband, Jack J. Thomas, were the founders of Lazy J.
