Miller, 82, a resident of Frankllinton, died at 6:45 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2004 at St. Tammany Hospital in Covington. He was a retired Chief of Police for the Town of Franklinton with 19 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and received a Purple Heart. He also served as Justice of the Peace for Ward 3 and was a retired dairyman. He was a member of Franklinton Church of Christ. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David C. and Jo Ann Miller of Mt. Hermon; four daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Mike Dill of Covington, Lucille and Wilburn Ashby of Louisville, KY, Lynelle and Walter McClatchy of Oakland, OR and Shirley Ruth and Ted Barnes of Salem, OH; two brothers, James William Miller of Ponchtatoula and Nelson Miller of Wesson, MS; a sister, Norma Heide of Cocoa Beach, FL; grandchildren; great-grandcildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was recently preceded in death by his wife, Junie Belle Leggett Miller; a son, Denver W. Miller; his parents, Jimmy Miller and Ivy Morris Miller Davis; a sister, Blanche Holiday; and a brother, Jack H. Miller. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday and after 1 p.m. Wednesday until time for the funeral service at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Luke Ashby officiating. Burial followed in the Ellis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Foundation, 1202 S. Tyler Street, Covington, LA 70433. Pallbearers were Brad Dill, Justin Miller, Brian Hearndon, Bret Miller, Bill Corkern, Kumjdnn Tavvishut. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bernice Clardy Jones, Franklinton Bernice Clardy Jones, 81, a resident of Franklinton, died early Monday, February 2, 2004 at her residence. She was a member of First Baptist Church and former member of Franklinton Women's Club. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Truett C. Jones of Franklinton; four children and spouses, Robert and Darlene Jones, Karen and Fred Spears all of Franklinton, Diane and Bill Green of Huntsville, TX and David and Melinda Jones of Dallas, Tx; a sister, Mitis C. Bowers of Palacios, Tx; twelve grandchildren, Robin Black, Jamie Jones, Joy Lynn Clark, Rob Jones, Stacy Hodgett, Shelly Metschan, Kevin Green, Kelly Romero, Nikki Jones, Chesley Spears, Jenny Jones and Erin Jones; three great-grandchildren, Alex and Dani Black and Karson Jones; and a special niece, Susan Furmon of Austin, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Pearl Sexton Clardy; and a sister, Marie Barnett. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 11 a.m. Wednesday. Afuneral service was held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Gene Richards and Rev. Alford, Franklinton Roscoe L. Alford, 85, a resident of Franklinton, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at his residence. He was a member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church. He ws a retired Merchant Seaman and an avid gardener. He is survivived by his wife Laura Alford of Franklinton; two sons, Ray Alford of Harahan and Phillip Alford of Pearl River; a daughter, Patsy Hilbun of Pearl River; two step children, Birtieree Schilling and Harold Miller both of Franklinton; a brother, Ford Alford of Monroe; six grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 8 great-grand- children; and 6 step-great-great-granchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine E. Alford; his parents, Iddo and Ella Alford; two brothers, Donough Alford and O.J. Alford; and a sister, Chrystelle Traina. Visitation was after 10 a.m. Friday until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Gene Richrds and Ben Morgan officiating. Burial followed in the Fisher Cemetery. Crain, Franklinton Lynelle "Nell" B. Crain, 61, a resident of Franklinton died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 3:40 p.m. at St. Tammany Hospital in Covington. She was a member of Crain's Creek Missionary Baptist Church and longtime employee of Simmons' Department Store. She is survived by her husband, Wendell Crain of Franklinton; a son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Sherry Crain of Denham Springs; the second love of her life, her two granddaughters, Allie and Carley Crain of Denham Springs; a brother, William Bedwell of Rio; two sisters, Eleanor Adams of Sheridan and Elnora Sances of Baton Rouge; her mother-in-law, Leona S. Crain of Pine; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Dovie Bedwell; and father-in-law, D.C. Crain. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Friday. Visitation continued after 10 a.m. Saturday at Crain's Creek Missionary Baptist Church with funeral services at 11 a.m. with Eld. Willie J. Passman, Eld. Ed Penton and Eld. Clyde Cooper officiating. Ashby, 57, a resident of Louisville, KY, died Friday, February 6, 2004. He was Church of Christ minister for 31 years and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, the former Janie "Lucille" Miller, a former resident of Franklinton; sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew and Makenzie, Luke and Laura, Aaron and Christina and Caleb Ashby; father, John Ashby, mother, Dezarie Ashby; and a brother, Gaylord Ashby. He was preceded in death by a sister, Claudette Raby. His funeral was held at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9 at Cedar Springs Church of Christ, Louisville, KY. She was a member of the Midway Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Lynn and Bobby Darnell of Groves, TX; a daughter-in-law, Nelda Rae Nobles of Franklinton; a son-in- law, James A. Jenkins of Franklinton; two brothers, Jewel O. "Buddy" Wallace of Denver, CO and Harold Wallace of Bogalusa; two sisters and a brother-in- law, Lucille Thomas and Beatrice and James Quinn all of Bogalusa' a sister- in-law, Mary W. Bennett of Bogalusa; seven grandchildren and spouses, Lamonica and Virgil Cooley, Jeremy K. Jenkins, Laquetta and David Passman, Lauretta Jenkins, James Kelson Jenkins, Wayne and Tammy Nobles, Sally I. and Brian Staklem; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Artis Nobles and Virgil Sorrell; a son, E.A. Nobles; a daughter, Elsie Marie Jenkins; brothers, Earl Ray Wallace, Sr. and Willard Wallace; and sisters Albertine "Tina" Varnado and Mildred Wallace. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Eld. Mark Hopgood and Eld.
