A wake service will be held Monday from 7-8 p.m. at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Duffy Cemetery at Lee's Creek, Cook-Richmond Funeral Home directing. Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. Monday at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home. Mr. Simmons died March 29, 2000 at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Bogalusa. Visitation will be held Friday, April 7, at Crain & Sons Funeral Home of Bogalusa, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Family hour will begin at 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 8, at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Sandy Hook starting at 1 p.m., with Minister Versie D. Lee officiating. Inter- ment will be at Springhill Cemetery in Sandy Hook. He was preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Annie Stringer; three sons, John Stringer, Joe Stringer, and Willie J. MRS. LENA MAE MONDY FOSTER ROBINSON Died March 30, 2000 VARNADO - Mrs. Lena Mae Mondy Foster Robinson of Varnado, age 89, died March 30, 2000. Visitation will be tomorrow at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home from 2-5 p.m. Wake service will be from 7-9 p.m. at Mary's Chapel United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be held Saturday, at 1 p.m. at Mary's Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Robinson Cemetery. Lena Mae Mondy Foster Robinson was born on May 3, 1909, to the late Moses Mondy and Larine Pierce Mondy in Pearl River County, Henleyfield, MS. She was married to the late Luke Kelly Foster in Varnado. To this union God blessed them with four children one of whom preceded her in death. After a divorce she met and married the late John Robinson. There were no children born to this union. In the late 1950's Lena Mae relocated to Los Angeles, CA, where she lived until moving back to Varnado in 1984. She spend the last three years in Apple Valley, Calif. and relocated to Varnado on August 30, 1999. Lena Mae was a hard and willing worker. She taught in the public schools of Mississippi for a short time and began day work for many families in Varnado and California. She was also an apartment manager for Wingo Enterprises in San Pedro, CA. She was well liked by all of her employees because she believed in treating everyone with the same respect that you yourself would like. Lena Mae joined Mary's Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age. She was a church secretary, Sunday School teacher and helped in many other places in the church. While in California she attended Hamilton United Methodist in Los Angeles and Vision Of Faith Christian Church in Apple Valley, Calif. She loved to sit and listen to the old spirituals and when reading scriptures could always quote along with you. She loved her God and always wanted her family to have their name on some church roll. She is survived by one daughter, Lillian Roberts (Hollis); two sons, Willie D. Foster (Arletha) and Vernon Foster (Shirley) both of Varnado; one daughter-in-law, Cloretta Foster (Oneal) of Los Angeles; four stepchildren, Ethel Youngblood (Alas), Jim Robinson of New Orleans, Marie Causey (Edward), Waver Tate (Clarence) of Franklin- ton; a sister, Wilma Thompson of Varnado; a half sister Vera Jackson of Picayune; 24 step grand children; 25 grand children; 56 great- grandchildren, three of whom preceded her in death, 19 great-great grandchildren, five great-great step children, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friend. RUBY WILLIAMS McKENZIE Died April 1, 2000 FRANKLINTON - Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Williams McKenzie, age 86, a resident of the State Line community, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Stateline Missionary Baptist Church with Elders Billy Ray Hines, Carl Christian, Brent King and Carl Dickens officiated. Mrs. McKenzie died Saturday at her residence. The widow of Modez McKenzie, Mrs. McKenzie was a member of Stateline Missionary Baptist Church. RUBY WILLIAMS McKENZIE Died April 1, 2000 FRANKLINTON - The funeral service for Mrs. Ruby Williams McKenzie, age 86, a resident of the Stateline community, was held at 2 p.m. yesterday in Stateline Missionary Baptist Church. Elders Billy Ray Hines, Carl Christian, Brent King and Carl Dickens officiated, with burial following in Pine Community Cemetery. WALTER R. BARBER Died April 3, 2000 LEESVILLE - Walter R. Barber, age 68, a native of Foxworth, died in Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville. He retired a First Class Sergeant in the U.S. Army after serving 23 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War before he served 15 years in the sports branch at Fort Polk. God in his infinite wisdom called home his beloved daughter, Mrs. Joyce Evans Luter. She was born Feb. 6, 1942, to the family of the late Sarah Jane Alexander and Elijah James "Duck" Evans in Hub, Ms. In 1960, she was united in holy matrimony to Rev. Dr. Atwood J. Luter in Baton Rouge. To this ordained and blessed union four children were born. Sister Luter dedicated and committed her life to the Lord at an early age. She was a faithful witness for the Lord, a devoted wife to a preacher of the gospel, and a loving, caring, compassionate nurse in the workplace. During her prolong illness, her dynamic personality and effervescent smile persisted throughout the years. By the grace of God, she endured suffering and pain, always mindful that God would not put more on her than she could bear. She was a good soldier. She fought a good fight and now the battle is won. She had been a teacher, coach and guidance counselor at Bogalusa High School, a teacher at the Louisiana School for the Deaf; a teacher and coach, including football coach during World War II, at Amite High School, and a member of Amite First United Methodist Church.
