He was a former resident of Bogalusa. He played football for Bogalusa High School under Coach Gary Dildy and is to be remembered as the "bare foot kicker." He joined the Marines in 1937 and retired 20 years later. He was "Captain of the Guards" of the Areo-Jet General at Downey, CA until his retirement. He is survived by three sons, Gary, Theodore and Michael; a daughter, Maureen; a sister and brother-in-law, Marguerite and Buford Perrette of Bogalusa; three grandchildren; three nieces, Jo Alyn Thomas, Barbara Lee, both of Bogalusa and Ethel Cucullu of Clinton, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews.Preceding him in death was his wife, Geraldine; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lee Gray Sr.Interment was in the Military Cemetery in Ontario, CA with military rights on March 26, 2001.Inland Memorial was in charge of services. "Ray" Anderson(Died April 22, 2001)BOGALUSA - George R. "Ray" Anderson, 76, a resident of Bogalusa died Sunday after a three year struggle with a rare form of Leukemia. Ray served in the U. S. Army in France during WWII and continued with an exemplary military career with various units of the U. S. Army Reserve with an accrued military experience of 40 years. He retired from the U. S. Army Reserve at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer W4 after holding that highest possible rank for over 20 years. He also simultaneously retired from his U.S. Federal Civil Service Reserve Center after completing his 20 years in that position. Ray was a devout Christian, constantly active in his church activities at Superior Avenue Baptist where he contributed to many of its functions including serving on the building committee, serving as a deacon, participating in computerizing the various systems for the church, teaching Sunday school and by offering his praise to the Lord via his resonant bass voice.Ray was always involved in the support of his community and the surrounding area. In the Ben's Ford area he tirelessly assisted the elderly with their everyday needs. He participated in various functions associated with the Ben's Ford Church where his parents and close neighbors were and are members, and made possible expansions of those facilities via several land transactions over the years. Ray did not want to "retire", so he along with others with similar drives created the Bogue Lusa Water District to serve the rural residents in the Ben's Ford area which provided centralized, potable water and also helped reduce fire insurance rates. Not one to sit back and relax, he joined with others to extend these kind, community- oriented thoughts toward the creation of the Washington Parish Fire Protection District 7 system where he served as a charter member and secretary until his death. Ray was heavily involved in the activities of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners organizations. He was a charter member of the Bogalusa Lodge and a member of the Center and Varnado Lodges. He never ceased to amaze others with his personal accomplishments but most of all with his ability to assist others in achieving their goals and aspirations. He strongly believed in the value of these organizations and continually supported their causes and activities. He is survived by his children, Barry Eugene Anderson of Raceland, LA and Stanley "Stan" Dale Andrerson of Houston, TX; and his grandchildren, Bryon James Anderson, Christie Lynn Anderson Dufrene, wife of Shannon Dufrene all of Raceland, LA and Molly Melissa Anderson of Houston.Preceding him in death was his wife, Bertie J.
