Survived by widow & 10 children, among whom are Mrs. W. L. Bates, A.J., T.C., S.E., R.E., L.I., N.S., & H.R. Adams all of Bogalusa & Mrs. Lillie Magee of Franklinton. Bashaw, J. B. about age 70, a traveling representative for the Nashville Roller Mills, died at McComb MS hotel Thursday. He was a close friend of Harry W. Hoppen. Remains were shipped to Nashville TN for burial. Mr. Bashaw was a bachelor. Bridges, Dave {colored} about age 60 died Saturday in his yard after suffering a heart attack. Gautreau, Dr. V. J., Sr. died Saturday of a heart attack at Albany in Livingston Psh. Survivors: widow, 1 son, 2 daus, 1 being Miss Elaine Gautreau of Bogalusa. Funeral services in Hammond, interment in the Greenlaw Cem. Pomeroy, Mrs. C. W. about age 65, died in Bastop Friday following a stroke. Survivors: husband & 10 children who are all alive. She was the mother of Rev. G. W. Pomeroy, former pastor of ESM Methodist Church , who is now located at Minden. Funeral services were held at Bastrop. Witham, Mrs. I. J., died at Bangor Maine. The Witham family resided in Bogalusa for several years, where Mr. Witham died suddenly following an operation. Survivors: George, of Birmingham, Louis, of Baton Rouge, & Reginald of Bangor Maine. April 9, 1945 Ashley, Hayden, Sr. age 61, died Sunday at ESM Hosp. Survivors: 6 children, Albert of Wesson MS, Jessie of Jackson MS, Hayden Jr of El Reno OK, Mrs. Elizabeth Penton, Eula L. Ashley of Bogalusa & Sgt. Lena Mae Ashley, hendricks Field FL. He was the late husband of Mrs. Mary Hines Ashley. Interment in McGehee Cem. Fitzgerald, August John age 59, died at his residence on Bush-Folsom Rd. Friday. Survivors: widow Mrs. Beulah King Fitzgerald, 3 children, Mrs. Iva Allison, Covington, Howard & Cora Lee of Bush. Interment in Fitzgerald Cem. Brown FH in charge. Sharp, PFC J. D. age 23, killed in action in the southwest Pacific Nov. 18, 1944. He was born at Blond LA, St. Tammany Psh. Survivors: mother Mrs. Lizzie Sharp, 3 bros., Johnnie at home, Albert E. & Wilmer, both in the army. A memorial service was conducted Sunday afternoon at the Sharp home, and the mother was presented the Silver Star Medal. Stuart, Charles W. "Billy" was killed in action March 7th at Iwo Jima, a member of the Marine Corps. His mother: Mrs. Wilmon Stuart. April 16, 1945 Carroll, Sam age 74, died Friday at his home, the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Gerald Carroll. Survivors: 8 children, J. Q., Reece, Jesse & Daniel of Varnado, Willie, Reuben & Mrs. Eva Rogers of Bogalusa & Charles Carroll of Rayville. Interment in the Carroll Cem. Brown FH in charge. Haik, Sgt. Victor age 30 killed in action, Dec. 23 in Belgium. He was born & reared in New Orleans & had resided in Bogalusa about 18 yrs. Survivors; widow the former Josephine Fasola, 1 son about age 2, his father, G. S. Haik, 5 bros, Leonard & Ralph Haik of New Orleans, Lester & Don Haik of Bogalusa, Roy Haik, US Navy in South Pacific, 1 sister, Violet Haik of Bogalusa. April 23, 1945 Baham, Phillip A. age 63, died Sunday following a stroke 2 wks ago. He was born in Tangipahoa Psh. & has come to Bogalusa from Mt. Hermon community last Dec. Survivors: widow, Mrs. Fannie Bankston Baham, 1 son PFC James Baham with the army in Germany, 3 daus. Viola & Jessie Baham at home, Mrs. M. E. Bateman of Franklinton, 3 bros. Ed of Bogalusa, Ivy of near Amite & Tim of Hammond, 5 sisters, Mrs. Fred Augustine & Mrs. Angie Babcok of Bogalusa, Mrs. Henry Holton & Mrs. Bill Wilson of near Amite & Mrs. Lula Malito of New Orleans. Interment in Bankston Cem. Jordan, Mrs. Eliza Mary died April 12 at the home of her son-in-law & daughter, Mr/Mrs. Cecil Pullen. 2 other daus. Mrs. Eddie Alford & Mrs. Charlie McNeese of near Varnado, 2 sons Willie Rester & Albert Rester. Lumpkin, PFC R. J. age 23, died in Germany April 5. Survivors: parents Mr/Mrs. Slayton B. Lumpkin, 3 sisters Mrs. Ed Debrow, McNeill MS, Mrs. Bennett Lumpkin, Carriere MS & Mrs. Jim Beard, Picayune, 1 bro. Pvt. Ranel Lumpkin with the army at Camp Gordon, Johnston FL. He was a nephew of W. B. Lumpkin & Charles Lumpkin of Bogalusa. Stafford, Pvt. Walter T. killed in action in Germany on April 8. He was the only child of Mr/Mrs. Will Stafford of the Plainview community. April 30, 1945 Maples, Sgt. Virgil age 26, killed in action in Germany April 14. Survivors: parents Mr/Mrs. Oscar Maples of Mt. Hermon, 3 bros. Wesley & Jack Maples both in the army, Victor Maples of Mt. Hermon, 2 sisters Mrs. William Booty & Mrs. Louis Dillon. Morris, Martin, died Saturday at Tylertown MS of heart trouble. Sons: T.C. & Edwin Morris of Bogalusa. Funeral held at the family residence near Warnerton, interment in a nearby cemetery. Sheridan, Robert, killed in action in Germany during the first 2 weeks of April, son of Mr/Mrs. Relius Sheridan of the Plainview community. Reportedly he is married & the father of 1 small child.
