She resided in Ponchatoula & was the mother of Toxie Bush. Funeral services were held Mon. at the First Bapt. Church in Bog, interment in the Isabel Cem. Poole Funeral Home in charge. Chandler, Infant d/o Mr/Mrs Marvin Chandler of the Terrace, died Thur, March 28th at ESM Hosp. She lived only a short time after birth. Funeral services held Fri. at the Pine Cem. Crawford, Emile "Slim", age 58, drowned Sat. in Pearl River. E. L."Big" time of the accident. Mr. Crawford who was lame in one leg, spent many hours fishing. He has been working with railroads in Bog. since 1909 as an engineer. Survivors: wife Mrs. Emile Crawford, 2 sons Emile Jr. & William (serving with Marine Corp. in China), 1 dau. Mrs. Norman Lee of Los Angles, CA. The body has not been recovered at the time The Bulletin went to press. Rayborn, Mrs. Mary Cooper, age 83 of Bush, died Fri, March 29th at her home. A pioneer resident of Bog, but now resident of New Orleans. Survivors: 3 sons Lawrence of Norfolk VA, Louis of Bog, & James of Iowa now serving with the Navy, 1 dau. Mrs. David Scroggs of Bog. Funeral & interment in Sumrall MS. Laird, Thomas L., age 55 died Sat. at the ESM Hosp. of heart trouble. Survivors: widow Mrs. Louella Moffett Laird, 2 daus. Mary Lou Laird & Mrs. Frances E. Powell. Prescott, Mrs. Aaron, age 68, born in Ireland & came to this country with her parents about age 2, died Fri. at her home in Baton Rouge. From 1927 to 1940 she resided in Bog. at the home of her son. Schilling, C. J., age 21/2, s/o Mr/Mrs Curtis Schilling of Pine, was accidentally shot to death by his 11 yr. old uncle, Eugene Warren, while playing in the yard Wednesday. Jr, age 61 of New Orleans, died Sun. aboard the Illinois Central train enroute from Louisville KY, to New Orleans. Death was due to a heart attack & occurred between Louisville & Memphis TN. His wife, who accompanied him to the Kentucky Derby, noticed he was dead about 8:35 a.m. The remains were taken from the train at Memphis & removed to an undertaking establishment. The body was placed aboard an Illinois Central train & arrived in New Orleans & is laid out at the Schoen Funeral Home. Survivors: widow, 2 sons Dr. J. Stanley Desporte of Bog, C. A. Desporte, III, 2 daus. Leda & Marie Helen Desporte, & 1 step-son Joseph White, Jr. all of New Orleans. Dr. Desporte was informed of his father's death while he & Mrs. Desporte were spending the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Fred Cushing in Mobile AL. Funeral held in New Orleans. Riley, Charles Lemley, age 45 of Wausaw WS, employee of the American Appraisal Co, who had been in Bog. for the past 2 wks. appraising the property of Gaylord Container Corp., died at ESM Hosp. Fri. on the operating table. Reportedly he suffered a knee injury Tues. April 30 in an automobile accident & was preparing to undergo an operation. Death was due to an acute heart attack. The remains were shipped to Wausaw, Sat. afternoon. Poole Funeral Home in charge. May 13, 1946 Babington, Mrs. Elma Magee, age 77 died at her home in Franklinton, Fri. May 10th. She was the wd/o the late Thomas McCauley Babington & a d/o the late Mr/Mrs William Magee, Sr. A native of Washington Psh, & a member of one of the most prominent families in the parish. Survivors: Mrs. K. I. Bean & Mrs. Ollie B. Magee of Bog, T. M. Babington, Jr. of Franklinton & Herbert Babington of Meadville MS, 2 sisters Mrs. D. C. Bickham of Franklinton & Mrs. Flora Green of Enon, 7 grandchildren Miss Eileen Magee & Bill Babington of Bog, T. M. III & Sally Babington of Franklinton, Herbert Jr, Mary Ann & Margery Towne Babington of Meadville MS. Funeral services held Sat. at the home, interment in the Ellis Cem. Desporte, C. A., age 61 father of Dr. J. Stanley Desporte, who died early Sun. morning of a heart attack aboard an Illinois Central train were held Tues. at Schoen Funeral Home, Canal St., New Orleans. Interment in Metairie Cem. Mr. Desporte, a native of New Orleans, operated one of the oldest drug store in the French Quarter. He had visited his son here on numerous occasions. Survivors: the widow, 1 other son, 2 daus. & 1 step-son. Johnson, W. W., father of A. H. Johnson, employed in the electrical dept. of Gaylord Container Corp, will regret to learn of the death of his father, which occurred Tues. at his home in Poplarville MS. Mrs. J. A. Frye, aunt of the deceased attended the funeral service. Jones, Charles Ray, age 22, fatally injured in an auto accident Thur. on the Bog-Covington highway. Survivors: mother Mrs. Grace Jones, 1 bro.Robert Ray, 1 sister Mrs. Wallace White all of Bog. He was the nephew of Judge A. J. Jones, Oneal & Herman Jones all of Bog. Grandparents: Mr/Mrs N. T. Ramshur & A. G. Jones also of Bog. Funeral services held Fri. with interment in Ponemah Cem. G. F. Poole Funeral Home in charge. Jones, Hollis (colored) was fatally stabbed Fri. night by Freddie Tyson, also colored in Preston's Bar, 4th Street, after the two reportedly engaged in an argument over "four bits" that Jones owed Tyson. He was stabbed in the right chest & died enroute to the hospital . Tyson was arrested immediately after the stabbing, charged with murder & taken to the parish jail. King, Mrs. W. W., age 84 died May 8 at her home in Savoy TX. She was a former citizen of Bog, & mother of J. B. King of this city. Funeral services held in TX. Rollins, Mrs. M. D., age 77 of Norwood LA, died May 3 at Our Lady of the Lake Sanitorium, Baton Rouge. She died while visiting her daughter Mrs. J. Antimarch of Baton Rouge. She was the mother of Mrs. D. C. Byers of Bog. Funeral services held in Norwood. May 20, 1946 Black, C. L., age 54 resident of Bog. died suddenly of a heart attack in his insurance office in the City Bank building Friday. He was preparing to leave & his secretary Mrs. Margaret Yeager heard a slump at his desk. She summonized aid but he was pronounced dead upon the physician's arrival. A native of Fort Edward NY, but at an early age went to New Orleans where he made his home with an aunt, the late Mrs. Margaret Gauche. He was employed by the old Gruenwald Hotel, which is now the Roosevelt Hotel, prior to moving to Bog. in 1917. His wife preceded him in death about 3 yrs. Survivors: 2 sons C. L. Jr., on terminal leave after service in the Navy, Joe Black, Air Cadet stationed at Corpus Christi TX, 2 daus. Miss Ellen Black, member of the Naval Nurses Corps & stationed at the US Naval Hosp. in New Orleans, & Mrs. Jack Simmons of Bog, 2 sisters who reside in Saratoga Springs NY. Funeral services held Sat. at the Catholic church, interment in Ponemah Cem. G. F. Poole Funeral Home in charge. Caston, Wren R, age 74 died Fri. at his home in Mccomb MS. He was the uncle of W. L. "Bill" Caston of this city. Mr/Mrs Caston celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1944. Survivors: wife, & 1 sister. Funeral services held Sat. at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb, interment in the Hollywood Cem. Hedrick, Walter W., age 60 died Wed., May 15th in Georgiana AL. following a heart attack. Mr. Hedrick had been employed on a railroad in AL for the past 4 yrs. His family has resided on Van Buren St. in the Terrace, for 12 yrs. He was a bro. of the late Charles Hedrick of the Square Coffee Shop. Survivors: wife Mrs. Ruby Hedrick, 3 daus. Elizabeth & Marjorie of Bog., Hilda of Washington DC, 2 sons Howard "Buddy" Hedrick of Bog, & Walter of Shreveport, 4 bros & 2 sisters. Funeral services held Friday in Hattiesburg. May 27, 1946 Rester, Henry, age 54 died Thur. May 23rd at ESM Hosp. He had underwent a major surgery in New Orleans several weeks ago & since then had been in failing health. A native of the parish, he had been employed by the city of Bog. as a mechanic for 20 yrs. Survivors: 3 sons A. C. & Edward of Bog, & A. W. of Springhill LA, 1 dau. Mrs. Willie Hunt of Pine, 3 bros. Fred of Bog, G. E. & John of Sheridan, 1 sister Mrs. H. O. Magee of Bog. Funeral services held Fri. at the Rester Cem. Brown Funeral Home in charge. Talfor, John (colored) age 43, fatally injured Sun. when he fell from the 2nd story of the Barne's boarding home, Austin St. He died enroute to the hospital. Reportedly Talfor came on the porch & called for his wife & a few seconds later a roomer heard his call for help. His head struck concrete below the porch. The case was investigated by Officer Geo. Stevenson. June 3, 1946 Bates, Cline D., age 45, pioneer resident of Bog, died Fri., May 31, at the Mercy Hosp. The former manager of the meat market of the Bog. stores, Mr. Bates left about 8 yrs. ago & managed his own business until his illness. Survivors: wife Mrs. Jacqueline Slade Bates of New Orleans, 1 son Cline Desmond of New Orleans, 4 bros. M. T., Fredrick & Archie of Bog, & Joe of New Orleans, 4 sisters Mrs. C. L. Newell, Mrs. O. C. Smith & Mrs. E. F. Hofgaard all of Houston TX, & Miss Minnie Bates of Bog. Funeral service held Sun. with interment in the Adams Cem. Poole Funeral Home in charge. McNeese, Mrs. Louisa Knight, age 59 of Sheridan, died Sat. June 1, at WST Hosp. following a heart attack. Survivors: husband Willie Knight of Sheridan, 3 sons Etus of Franklinton, Harvey of Claremore OK, & Leroy of Stockton CA, 4 daus. Mrs. Elmer Brumfield of Franklinton, Mrs. G. W. Riley, Mrs. Harvey Pierce & Mrs. Dan Pierce of Varnado, 2 bros. George & Early Knight of Bog, 2 sisters Mrs. Delie Tuttle & Mrs. Jason Seal of Franklinton, 17 grandchildren. Miller, Bonnie Faye, age 6 d/o Mr/Mrs Luther Miller of Rio, was fatally burned Sat. when a bucket of gasoline, which she was standing near, overturned, ignited & spread over her body. Reportedly, gasoline was being used to clean parts of an automobile being repaired near the Miller home. It is believed that one of the children "watching" the repair work overturned the gasoline. When the motor was started it ignited the gasoline on the ground. She was rushed to WST Hosp. where she died of 2nd-3rd degree burns at noon Sunday. The remains are laid out at the home of Bebe Haire, Dan St, but arrangements are incomplete. Interment will be in Pounds Cem. The Millers have 8 other children. Miller, Lottie Lee, age 87, died Sun. June 2 at WST Hosp. Services will be today, Monday, at Rio Church with interment in the church cemetery. Poole Funeral Home in charge. June 10, 1946 Bijeaux, H., age 67 died Sat. June 8 at the home of his dau., Mrs. L. P. Lacombe in Bog, while visiting. Funeral services held Sun. in St. Martinville with Poole Funeral Home in charge. McDaniels, Charles F, age 58 died Sat. June 8 in New Orleans hospital. He was a painter & a resident of Bog. for a number of yrs. Funeral services will be held today, Monday. Complete arrangements unobtainable at press time. Brown Funeral Home in charge. McFerren, J. L. "Dickie", age 38 died in Shreveport Sat. of a heart attack. He was manager of Bancroft Paper Co. of Shreveport. The husband of the former Janice Grimmett, d/o Mr/Mrs J. H. Grimmett, residents of Laurel MS, the s/o Mr/Mrs L. T. McFerren of Homer LA, 1 dau. Jo Ann age 6. Funeral services in Homer LA on Sunday. June 17, 1946 Bissett, James G. "Jimmie", age 61 died Thur. at a New Orleans hospital. A naive of Scotland & prior to coming to Bog, was employed as a pursur on a United Fruit Co. steamship which sailed between New Orleans & Mexica. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean more than 50 times in his service with the British Steamship Line & the British Navy. He was a life member of Greenack Lodge #147 of Scotland. The deceased left Bog. about 4 yrs. ago & located in Baton Rouge where he resided until his death. The remains were shipped to Racine WS where the funeral will be conducted Saturday. Fortenberry, Kenneth Ray, infant s/o Mr/Mrs Flemon Fortenberry of Bog, died Sun. June 16th at WST Hosp. Services held Mon. at the Pentecostal Church, interment in Ponemah Cem. Poole Funeral Home in charge. Houston, J. M., age 77 of Elizabeth LA, father of C. T. Houston, died Thur, June 13th. Jenkins, Thomas, age 65 lifelong resident of Blonde, St. Tammany Psh, died Sat. June 15, in a New Orleans hospital. Funeral services & interment held Sun. at the Shepard's Fold cemetery. Brown Funeral Home in charge. Kennedy, T. A. "Bull", former superintendent of the Great Southern Lumber Co, died at his home in Newsport News VA on Friday. The Kennedy family left Bog. about 15 yrs. ago & resided in New Orleans. Survivors: widow, 1 son Arch, bro. Robert Kennedy. Remains sent to Jennings LA where funeral will be held Sunday. June 24, 1946 Ainsworth, William L., age 84 died Mon. at the home of his dau. Mrs. Purvis M. Hall of Pearl River Co, where he was visiting, having come from Brookhaven a few days previously. Survivors: 2 other daus. Mrs. C. D. Elliott of Port Arthur TX, & Mrs. U. D. Hilton of Laurel MS, 6 sons T. W. & S. J. of Bog, Jay of Poplarville, Charlie of Hattiesburg, William L. Jr. of Portland OR & Jimmie of Mobile. 18 grandchildren. Funeral service held Wed. at Brookhaven, interment in the Shiloh Cem, near Brookhaven. Burkhalter, Georgia Lee (colored) age 24 of Mt. Hermon, found dead Fri., of a gunshot wound, which had been fired into her throat. The sherriff & staff are trying to prove whether it was murder or suicide. Alex Burkhalter, her husband who is employed in a blacksmith shop at Mt. Hermon, stated he returned home about 4:00 p.m. Friday & found his wife dead in bed. However, blood was found in the yard & in the doorway of the house. Burkhalter was arrested & is being held for further investigation. The body was brought to Cook Funeral Home, prepared for burial & returned to Mt. Hermon where funeral services were held Sunday. Dennis, Herbert, age 63 died Sun. June 23rd at Greenville LA. A native of England, but resided in this city when a young man. Survivors: wife Mrs. H. Dennis of Bog, 1 son Stanley of Bog, 3 daus. Mrs. B. F.
