H. “Jack” Carroll were buried Friday morning in Ponemah cemetery following services at the Poole Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Webb and the Rev. D. W. Nix officiating. The twins were born at the Bogalusa Medical Center on Wednesday and died on Thursday. They are survived by their parents, and their grandparents. Mr. and Mr. W. M. Carroll and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Adcox. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bogalusa Bulletin, Bogalusa, LA 11-21-1949 Woman Dies in Wreck at Sheridan Saturday A Bogalusa woman was killed and three other persons were injured late Saturday afternoon in a collision involving a 1935 Ford on the Bogue Lusa Creek Bridge at Sheridan. Mrs. Lula Woodward McCain, 65, died at the Washington-St. Tammany hospital at 6:53 p.m. Saturday of skull fracture received in the crash about 5:30. Mrs. McCain was a passenger in the pick-up truck, which was driven by her husband, George McCain, 61, when the truck was struck from the rear by the Ford, driven by Jefther Brown, 27-year-old Bogalusa Negro. Both automobiles were traveling toward Bogalusa on Highway 7. McCain had just turned into the highway from the Pine Road at the time of the wreck. Brown fled the scene of the accident, but later surrendered to Sheriff Dorman Crowe at Franklinton. Others injured were Branton Woodward, Jr., 2, and Louise Woodward, 6, children of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Woodward of Pine and grandchildren of the McCains, both of whom received minor bruises and lacerations. Curtis Harris, Varnado Negro, suffered a badly cut lip in the accident. A Negro woman riding in the Ford escaped injury as did its driver and the driver of the truck. Funeral services for Mrs. McCain were conducted Sunday at the Angie Cemetery with the Rev. J. M. Stuart, Rev. W. M. Melton and the Rev. A. W. Robbins officiating. Interment was in the Angie cemetery with Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The dead woman was the mother of Willie Woodward, Mrs. Sadie Woodward Rester and Miss Waver Woodward, all of Bogalusa, Mrs. Minnie Schillings and E. B. Woodward, both of Pine; Fred Woodward of Sandy Hook, Miss., and Thomas and Frank Woodward of Angie. She is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Florence Branton and Mrs. Mamie McDaniel of Bogalusa, Mrs. Lillie Woodward and Mrs. Katie Yates of Columbia, Miss., as well as 33 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Investigating the accident were Sheriff Crowe, Deputy Sheriff Alton Lang, Bogalusa Police Chief W. E. Boyd, Captain Claxton Knight and Patrolman Doyle Holliday. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bogalusa Bulletin, Bogalusa, LA 11-21-1949 Richardson Child Died Saturday Mary Jane Richardson, two-week-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Richardson, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Baptist hospital in New Orleans after being rushed there Saturday afternoon. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday from the Richardson residence on Mississippi Ave with interment following in Ponemah cemetery. Besides her parents, Mary Jane is survived by two sisters, Judy and Annette; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Ott of Bogalusa and Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Strahan Buried on Sunday Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Love Baptist church for Mrs. Angie Freeman Strahan, who died at her home at 331 Third avenue Saturday at 1:30 a.m. after a lingering illness. The Rev. Andrew McCain officiated at the funeral, which was followed by interment in the Crain cemetery at Pine, with Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Strahan is survived by her husband, Jessie Strahan; two daughters, Mrs. Juanita Manuel of Port Arthur, Tex., and Miss Willie Mae Strahan of Bogalusa; one son, Frank Strahan of this city; her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Freeman of Bogalusa; a brother, Carl Freeman of this city. Samuel Ernest Lancaster, 64, of 638 Avenue H, died this morning (Monday) at the Bogalusa Medical Center at 3 a.m. after being a patient there for two days. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of the Poole Funeral Home with the Rev. P.M. Caraway officiating. Interment will be in Ponemah cemetery. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Inez Lancaster; one son, Sam Lancaster, Jr., one brother, Morgan Lancaster of Raymond, Miss., and one sister, Mrs. J. W. Neil of Memphis, Tenn. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bogalusa Bulletin, Bogalusa, LA 11-28-1949 Lott Boy Died Here on Thursday Jimmy Edward Lott, 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie E. Lott of 1516 Jackson Street, died at his home at 11 a.m. Thursday of pneumonia and other complications after a lingering illness of several months duration. Funeral services were conducted at the Lott home at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Ernest Seal officiating. Interment was in Rester Cemetery near Varnado with the Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Besides his parents, the child is survived by four sisters, Margie, Bernell, Madilen and Mary Lou Lott, all at home. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bogalusa Bulletin, Bogalusa, LA 11-28-1949 Mrs. G. Miller Dies From Injuries Mrs. Gladys Burch Miller, 40, died at 11:26 a.m. Saturday in the Tylertown, Miss. Hospital from injuries sustained when a tractor fell on her last week at her home near Mt. Hermon. Mrs. Miller was driving the tractor home from the field and was discovered about 30 minutes after the accident pinned her beneath the tractor by her husband. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Pisgah church with the Rev. Ronald Hill officiating. Interment was in Mt. Pisgah cemetery with Poole Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband, Denman Miller; two sons, James and Wesley Miller; one daughter, Beatrice Miller; five brothers, Milford, A.W., Dorman, and Donnie Burch all of Mt. Hermon and Wilson Burch, police juror of Franklinton; four sisters Mrs. Clara Mae Alford, Mrs. Willie Burch Wilkes and Miss Irma Lee Burch, all of Mt. Hermon, and Mrs. Vivian Burch Smith of Franklinton. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bogalusa Bulletin, Bogalusa, LA 11-28-1949 Brother of Mrs. Newchurch Died Mr. Allen F. Simoneaux died suddenly at his home in Vacherie, La., Wednesday afternoon at 3:50 p.m. He was the brother of Mrs. George Newchurch of Avenue H, and an uncle of Clifton Simoneaux of the Pine community. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. Philip Catholic church, Vacherie, La. Mr. Simoneaux had visited in Bogalusa on several occasions. He was at the time of his death, chief engineer at Armant Plantation in Vacherie, La. The deceased is survived by his wife, four daughters, four sons, two brothers and his sister, Mrs. Newchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Newchurch accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Simoneaux left for Vacherie immediately upon being notified of the death of Mr. Simoneaux. They returned to Bogalusa Saturday afternoon.
