J. Holloway, died Saturday at ESM Hosp. He entered the hospital with measles, but later developed pneumonia. Bilbo, Andrew Jackson, age77, died at his home in Caesar community of a heart attack. Survivors: widow, 4 daus; & 7 sons. 2 bros, Senator Theo. G. Bilbo, Washington & J. A. Bilbo, Poparville July 9, 1945 {Large article} The most brutal murder in the history of Bogalusa, was committed early Monday morning at the home of J. H. Walker on 15th Street. James M. Brock, an ex-convict, killed his former wife, Mrs. Mable Walker, age 36, her husband, J. H. Walker, age 66, & Mrs. Walker's mother, Mrs. Elvie Morris, age 68. Following the shootings Brock fled from the Walker homes to a nearby thicket where he fired 2 shots into his left chest.Witnesses to the killings were 2 of Brock's children, Jimmie Deane, age 14 & Mary Gayle age 7. A third child Janella Brock, age 11 was in New Orleans at the home of Brock;s sister. Brock's remains were removed to the Brown FH & the 3 victims were removed to Hartman FH of McComb MS. Walker is survived by 4 sisters: Mrs. D. M. Schneider, Mrs. J. P. Smith & Mrs. J. W. Smith both of Bogue Chitto, Mrs. Janetta Wallace, Port Arthur TX & Mrs. Daisy Biggs of CA; 2 bros: Ernest Walker . Fowlerton TX & George Walker, Mendhall MS, 3 sons; C. S. Walker El Paso TX, Dewey Walker, Baton Rouge & Paul Walker. Mr. Walker was born in Franklin Co MS near Meadville. Mrs. Walker & Mrs. Morris were natives of Mt. Herman community. Later Monday, Brock;s body was removed to Hartman Hughes FH of McComb. Brock was paroled last February from the Mississippi State penitientary at Parchman after serving 10 years for the murder of James Miller of Osyka MS. Prior to that time Brock had reportedly had caused the death of his father, Boyd Brock by stricking him over the head with hammer. July 16, 1945 Francis, John L. age 42, died Friday at his sisters home in Sugarland TX. Survivors: 4 bros. C. K., Georgetown SC; E. E., New York; Jimmie, Bastrop LA, 3 sisters; Mrs. Robert Easterling, Picayune MS, Mrs. Lucille Broadway, WAC, & Mrs. Annie Albritton, Sugarland TX. Miller, David, age 71, died Saturday, Bogalusa. Survivors, widow Mrs. Florence Givens Miller, 8 children & 41 grandchildren. Children: Mrs. Minnie Cox & Andrew Miller of Bogalusa, Mrs. Bertha Morgan & Mrs. Audana Varnado, Franklinton, Houston Miller, New Orleans, Williard Miller, Lafayette, Mrs. Lexie Husser, Covington, & Everett Miller, US Navy in the South Pacific. Interment in the Fisher Cem. near Franklinton. Brown FH in charge of arrangements. Mitchell, Mary Elizabeth "Aunt Mary", age 83, died Saturday in New Orleans, at the home of her nephew, Rev. Horatio Mitchell. Rev. Mitchell's mother had died when he was an infant & Miss Mitchell raised him from babyhood. "Aunt Mary" resided with her brother J. M. (Mart) Mitchell near Rio until about 7 months ago. The deceased was known as "Aunt Mary" to Major Jim Warren Richardson, Senator H. H. Richardson, Clerk of court Lacy Richardson & Postmaster R. E. Richardson & Corbett & Dale Mitchell & other Mitchell & Richardson children. Funeral held at Palestine Church with burial in the church cemetery. Poole FH in charge. Randolph, Sebron, age 54, colored, died at his home of Poplas Quarters on Monday of a heart attack. Smith, Pvt. S. J., colored, age 18, died in Fort Lewis, Washington due to pneumonia. He had been in the army for about 4 months. Survivors: father Barcus Smith. Services were held in Clifton with interment at Clifton. Tucker's Mortuary in charge. St, Amant, George, Jr. died Thursday at ESM Hosp, of a cerebal hemorrhage. He was born in Bogalusa, the son of Mr/Mrs A. G. St Amant. Survivors: widow Katherine Franklin Of New Orleans, an 8 month son George & a daughter, Catherine Ann age 4, a brother Percy & a sister Mrs. Lyle Ranon of Biloxi MS & Miss Cecilia of Ave. E. this city. Service was held at Poole FH, remains were taken to Biloxi for burial. July 23, 1945 Evans. Mrs. Ardell Davenport, age 78 of Pearl River, died Tuesday. Survivors: husband David Evans, Pearl River, 1 son Charles A. McCarthy, Slidell, 1 bro. H. M. Davenport of Bogalusa. Burial in the McGehee Cem, Brown FH in charge. July 30, 1945 Ezell, James J., age 53, died Friday, Hotel Dieu Hosp, of injuries sustained when an ambulance in which he was riding overturned enroute to New Orleans for treatment after he had fallen from a ladder at his home & fractured his leg. Survivors: widow & mother. Johnson, A. P., age 62, died Denver CO on Friday. He resided Carrizo Springs TX. Survivors: Miss Barbara Gordon of Arcola, 5 children; Maj. John Johnson of US Army, Ens. Andrew P. Johnson, Jr of US Navy, Mrs. Urban Farrow, Mrs. Dorothy Oalman & Ross Johnson age 14, bros. J. K. Johnson, Bogalusa, Delos R. Johnson, Mrs. A. I. Wilcombe, Franklinton, Mrs. Theodore W. Gayer, Monroe, Jess Johnson, Baton Rouge, Mrs. Grace Nelson, Uvalde TX. He was born & reared at Enon. Funeral at Carrizo Springs TX. Thomas, Oscar Olan, age 20, only child of Mr/Mrs William Thomas, died Hotel Dieu, New Orleans Saturday. He was the nephew of O. R. 'Judge" Cooper. Interment at Nobles Cem, Brown FH in charge.
