A resident of the Stoney Point community died December 27th at age 51 in Ochsner’s Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. Interment was in the Fisher Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, Chess Bankston, one daughter, two brothers, one sister, her mother, Mrs. C. L. (Bessie) Creel and one grandchild. BROADWAY, Carmen Renee. A 13 year old Franklinton Junior High School student died December 24th as a result of a shooting accident at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Broadway on Route Three Franklinton. Interment was in the San Pedro Cemetery. In addition to her parents, survivors are one brother, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Jenkins and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Toney. DELAUGHTER, Mary “Diamond”. A former Franklinton resident, she died December 22nd at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Bogalusa at the age of 89. Interment was in the Morris Cemetery in Franklinton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Delaughter; she is survived by two sons, one daughter, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. NEAL, Vida Dykes. A native of Washington Parish and resident of Madisonville died December 27th at the age of 64 while a patient at Lallie Kemp Hospital in Independence. Interment was in the Nobles Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, Carsey H. Neal, three sons, ten daughters, a stepdaughter, seven brothers, three sisters, forty-four grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren. HILL, Thaniel “Bud”. A 46 year old resident of Poplarville and former resident of Franklinton died December 25th at the home of his sister in Bogalusa. Interment was in the Stateline Cemetery west of Hackley. Survivors are his mother, Louella Hill, five brothers and two sisters. SEAL, Ruth Jenkins. A Washington Parish native and long-time Franklinton resident died at age 84 on December 26th in Baton Rouge General Hospital. She was a resident of Fountain Lodge Nursing Home. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. Preceded in death by her husband, J. Pierce Seal, she is survived by two sons, one daughter, a brother, five sisters, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. TAYLOR, Lorene. A resident of the Pine-Varnado Community died December 25th at the age of 49 while a patient in New Orleans Charity Hospital. Interment was in the Old Gerald Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, James W. Taylor, four sons, four daughters, her mother, Hester Miley, four brothers, six sisters and fourteen grandchildren. 1-15-1976 SIMMONS, Othar Edgar. He was Mayor of Franklinton for six months before his death. A resident of Franklinton died Sunday at Hotel Dieu Hospital in New Orleans on Saturday. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Maudie Lee Breland Simmons, two sons, three brothers and two sisters. OTT, Denman D. A resident of Franklinton died at age 95 on January 6th at Riverside Medical Center. He was a native of Mt. Hermon. Survivors are his widow, Virginia Robinson Ott, one sister and numerous nieces and nephews. JORDAN, Lula Ball. A former resident of Franklinton died January 10th at her residence in Fort Bend County, Texas at age 69. Interment was in the Tylertown, Mississippi cemetery. Survivors are four sons, one daughter, two brothers and thirty grandchildren. 1-29-1976 SMITH, Mrs. Wilson (Aline Wilkes). A resident of Mt. Hermon died January 27th at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite. Interment was in the Bogue Chitto Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, Wilson E. Smith, two sons, one daughter, her mother, Addie Hooper, four brothers, one sister and eight grandchildren. CORKERN, Permelia Knight. A resident of Bogalusa died January 23rd at the Community Medical Center in Bogalusa at age 60. Interment was in the Ponemah Cemetery. She was preceded in death by three sons, Wilton, Elvin and Howard. Survivors are her husband, Charles a. corker, two sisters, one brother and five grandchildren. BROOKS, Hulon. A resident of Pine died at the Mt. Hermon home of his daughter on January 22nd at age 62. Interment was in the Faith Tabernacle Church Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Christine Brooks, nine sons, one daughter, four sisters, twenty- four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. HUSSER, Alyne Fisher. A resident of Route Three Franklinton died at age 49 on January 25 at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors are her mother, Mrs. Mike Fisher, her husband, Alfred Tennyson Husser, one son, two daughters, four sisters and three grandchildren. 2-5-1976 MAGEE, Willie J., age 82. A native of Franklinton died February 4th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Alice Daniel Magee, one son, one daughter, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. MYLES, Earlie E., age 73. He died January 30th at his home on Route Three, Franklinton. Interment was in the Wallace Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Tena S. Myles, one son, one daughter, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. MAGEE, Romona Ruth, age 32. A resident of Route One, Franklinton died January 31st at Riverside Medical Center. She was a native of Mississippi. Interment was in the Magee Cemetery (Lawrence Creek). Survivors are her husband, Donald Magee, one son, two daughters, two brothers, four half-brothers and three sisters. JONES, Thomas Theodore, age 81. A resident of Route Four, Franklinton died January 25th at Riverside Medical Center. The body lay in state in Bogalusa at Poole Funeral Home then moved to Berry’s Creek Pentecostal Church. Interment was in the Williams Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Rosa Sharp Jones, two sons, two daughters, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. KING, Inez Johnson, age 65. A former Mt. Hermon resident and resident of Bogalusa died January 30th at the Community Medical Center. Interment was in the Seborn Morris Cemetery near Mt. Hermon. Survivors are one son, one brother, four sisters, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. 2-12-1976 MAGEE, Willie J., age 82. A native of Franklinton died February 4th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Alice Daniel Magee, one son, one daughter, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. MAGEE, Edgar A., age 80. A resident of Franklinton died at his residence February 6th. Final rites will be conducted from the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Clifton. Survivors are one son, two daughters, nine sisters, five brothers, twenty-nine grandchildren, fifty-two great grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren. 2-19-1976 MILLER, Elton T. “Jerry”, age 73. A resident of Mt. Pisgah Community died February 15th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors are two sons, two brothers, one sister and five grandchildren. ERWIN, C. H. (Chic), age 77. A native of Franklinton died at his home in Fluker on February 12th. He was a World War I veteran. Survivors are one daughter, four brothers, one sister, one grandson and nieces and nephews. DENNIS, Elizabeth Bahm, age 45. A resident of Gerald, Missouri died February 12th in Gerald. She was a former resident of the Mt. Pisgah Community and the daughter of Mrs. Rena M. Bahm and the late Cleve Bahm. Interment was in the Magee-Bahm Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, Glenn Dennis, one son, one daughter, two sisters and one brother. 2-26-1976 BANKSTON, Henry H., age 89. A resident of Clifton died February 18th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Miller Bankston and survived by two sons, three daughters, one brother, fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. MAGEE, Rose Lee Spears, age 42. A resident of Franklinton died February 23rd at Riverside Medical center. She lay in state in Franklinton at the Branch-Simmons Funeral Home. Survivors are her husband, J. I. Magee, three sons, one daughter, two brothers and four sisters. HYDE, Athalean Burkhalter, age 60. A native of Franklinton died at her residence in Metairie on February 17th. Interment was in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, James Menton Hyde, Sr., two sons, three sisters, two brothers and four grandchildren. CRAIN, Aline McElveen, age 63. A resident of Franklinton died February 20th at the Community Medical center in Bogalusa. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, W. O. Crain, three sons, the brothers, two sisters and five grandchildren. 3-4-1976 TODD, John E., age 54. A resident of 15th Avenue, Franklinton died March 31st while burning fire lines in Crown Zellerbach’s forest. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. He was a native of West Virginia. Survivors are his widow, Edith Todd, one son, two daughters, his mother, Belma Todd, two brothers and three sisters. BATEMAN, Mrs. Mit B. (Mary Simmons). A native of Pike County, Mississippi and life-long resident of Baton Rouge died February 25th at Baton Rouge General Hospital. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, James J. Bateman and a daughter, Emily Wadsworth. Survivors are two daughters, one son, one sister, two brothers, ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. PASSMAN, A. A. (Aurelius), age 77. A resident of San Pedro died March 1st at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in San Pedro Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors are two sons, one daughter, three step-daughters, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several step grandchildren. SMITH, Mamie Sylvest, age 89. A resident of Warnerton died February 26th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. Survivors are one son and one sister. TULLOS, Cullen, age 70. A resident of Thomas died February 25th at Riverside Medical Center. Survivors are his widow, Clotea Tullos, two sons, three daughters, two brothers, one sister, thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. ALFORD, Wiley Benton, age 89. A long-time resident of Mt. Hermon died at his resident on Route Two, Mt. Hermon February 23rd. Interment was in the Bogue Chitto Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors are three sons, two daughters, twelve grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren. 3-11-1976 BOOTY, William, age 70. He passed away at his Mt. Hermon residence on March 4th. Interment was in the Oscar Morris Cemetery at Mt. Hermon. Survivors are his widow, Verna M. Booty, three sons, three daughters, one brother, five sisters, fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. SIMMONS, Eva Magee, age 91. A native of Franklinton died March 5th while residing at the Fountain Lodge Nursing Home in Baton Rouge. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Osborn Simmons. Survivors are one son, three daughters, three sisters and nine grandchildren. JAMES, D. J., age 62. A resident of Route Three, Franklinton, in the Richardson community died March 5th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Sunny Hill. Survivors are four sisters and three brothers. DYKES, Ella Alford, age 70. A resident of Franklinton died March 6th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. Survivors are two sons, one daughter, one brother, three sisters, eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. 3-18-1976 JENKINS, Elton, age 30. A resident of Franklinton died March 10th at Lallie Kemp Hospital in Independence. Interment was in the Jenkins Cemetery. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Van Jenkins of Pine, three brothers and three sisters. FORREST, Tom, age 72. A resident of Parker Street, Franklinton died March 11th. Interment was in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Survivors are a daughter, Margaret Pillegram and three sisters. PRIMES, Tommy, age 54. A resident of Pine died at Riverside Medical Center. Survivors are his widow, Aline Primes, two sons, two daughters, four brother, two sisters and one grandson. Interment was held March 18th in the Strahan Cemetery. 3-25-1976 SPEARS, Shelton, age 62. A Franklinton resident died March 21st at his residence on Route Two. Interment was in the Magee Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Freddie M. Spears, three sons, four daughters, one brother, one sister, twenty-five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. 4-1-1976 ADAMS, Jeffery, age 14. A resident of Pine died March 27th from a head-on collision on Hwy. 24. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chess Adams, four sisters, three brothers and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Kinch Adams. Interment was in the Adams Cemetery. MAGEE, Clara, age 92. A native of Washington Parish and resident of 8th Avenue, Franklinton died March 31st at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. CRAIN, Arthur, age 76. A resident of Pine died March 29th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Pine Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Bessie Crain, two sons, one brother, two sisters, three grandchildren, two great grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. 4-8-1976 HART, Ollie “Red”, age 45. He died Friday. He was a former Franklinton resident. Tucker Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. SNELL, Harold Mason, age 66. He was born September 26th, 1909 died April 3rd at his home on Route Two, Mt. Hermon. Interment was in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Lillie Mae Snell, two sons, two daughters, two brothers, two sisters, six grandchildren and stepmother, Helen Snell. He was the son of Charles Edward and Idonia Dykes Snell and was born and reared in Mt. Hermon. His brother, Carey Snell passed away April 3rd, 1960. He was the grandson of Lorenzo Dow Snell, one of the pioneer founders of the Mt. Hermon Community. MAGEE, Clara Bateman, age 92. She was a native of Washington Parish and a resident of 8th Avenue in Franklinton. She died March 31st at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Eugene Magee. Survivors are two sons, seven daughters, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and nine great- great grandchildren. BURCH, Helen Wall, age 54. A Tangipahoa Parish native and resident of Route Three Franklinton died April 2nd. Interment was in the Mixon Cemetery in Tangipahoa Parish. Survivors are two sons, four brothers, two sisters and three grandchildren. TAYLOR, Richard Wayne. He was born January 23, 1976 at Southwest Hospital in McComb, Mississippi and died March 30th, 1976 at Walthall County Hospital in Tylertown. Interment was in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Earl Taylor, grandparents, Mary Taylor and Mr. and Mrs. Latimore Barber and great grandparents, Tessie Dedon and Alma Goings. VOTH, Donald. He was a resident of New Orleans and died April 2nd at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. His wake was held in New Orleans and funeral was held in Isabel Baptist Church. He is the son-in-law of George Porter and husband of Kathleen Porter. 4-15-1976 BANNISTER, Excie Charles, age 75. He was a native of Washington Parish and resident of Route Four Franklinton died April 13th at Riverside Medical Center. He was retired from the U. S. Navy and a veteran of both World War I and II. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. Survivors are one son, one brother, one sister and one granddaughter. VARNADO, William Q., age 50. A native of Franklinton and resident of Bogue Chitto Heights died April 12th at his home. Interment was in the Tranquil Cemetery in Yazoo City, Mississippi. Survivors are his widow, Anna S. Varnado and one sister. 4-22-1976 WILLIAMS, Claude, age 41. A resident of State Line, drowned Thursday night when an oil drill rig sunk. Funeral services were held at the Forest Haven Baptist Church in State Line. Interment was in the Tullos Cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Reba Williams, two sons, three daughters, three brothers, three sisters and his mother, Mary S. Williams. TONEY, Herman G., age 61. A resident of San Pedro died April 19th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the San Pedro Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Myrtis S. Toney, one son, four daughters, two stepdaughters, a stepson, his mother, Louiser B. Toney, seven sisters, three brothers, fifteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 4-29-1976 SULLIVAN, Rose Ella Rogers, age 83. A resident of Baton Rouge died April 22nd at Fountain Lodge Nursing Home. Interment was in the Hays Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. She was a native of Franklinton. She was preceded in death by her late husband, B. M. Sullivan; survivors are two daughters, five sons, twenty-nine grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. MULINA, Zoie Varnado, age 63. A resident of Route Three Franklinton died April 26th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, Hezzie Mulina, five sisters and two brothers. RILEY, Thomas Bennett, age 71. He died April 26th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Wilma Ruth Riley, two daughters, two brothers, three sisters, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. ROBERTS, Laura Adelia, age 85. A resident of Route Two Franklinton died April 28th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Fisher Cemetery. Survivors are one son, one stepson, one stepdaughter and one grandson. CLARK, Zadie Mulkey, age 80. A resident of Franklinton died April 17th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Magnolia Cemetery in Mississippi. She was a native of Franklin County, Mississippi. Survivors are two sons, a daughter, a step daughter, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. 5-6-1976 WILLOUGHBY, Jean Crowe. A resident of Covington died May 2nd at Ochsner’s Foundation Hospital. Interment was in the Foil- Stringfield Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, John Willoughby and one son. NEWMAN, Walter, age 73. A Franklinton resident died May 3rd. Interment was in the Tyson Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Tena Crowe Newman, four sons, two daughters, one brother, one sister, twenty-five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. BATEMAN, Evie Varnado, age 80. A resident of Franklinton died May 4th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. Preceded in death by her husband, H. L. (Coot) Bateman and one son, Wayne Bateman. Survivors are one son, one daughter, three brothers, five sisters, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. JENKINS, Felder. He was a native and resident of Franklinton and died April 28th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Morris Cemetery in Franklinton. TYNES, Ethel Crain, age 84. She died May 4th at the home of her daughter on Alford Street. Interment was in the Tynes Cemetery at Stateline. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. N. He is the son of former Franklinton residents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Brumfield. Other survivors are his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Brumfield, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert W. Pickney, great grandparents, Tom Dykes and Mr. and Mrs. John Fears and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pickney. Interment was in the Springhill Cemetery. FOIL, Andrew, age 5. A native and resident of Baton Rouge drowned May 8th. Interment was in the Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survivors are his parents, Judge and Mrs. Frank Foil, two brothers, grandmothers Mrs. C. E. A resident of Paragould, Arkansas and the mother of Franklinton resident Lloyd White, owner and manager of Ben Franklin, passed away May 7th at Golden Years Nursing Home in Paragould. Interment was in the Memorial Gardens of Paragould. In addition to Mr. White, she is survived by one grandson and three grandchildren. WAGER, Oliver E., Sr. A resident of Crowley, Louisiana and husband of former Franklinton resident, Mazie Bateman Wage died May 11th. Interment was in the cemetery at Jennings, Louisiana. Survivors are his widow, one son and one sister. 5-27-1976 BRANCH, Henry Austin, age 72. He died May 25th at his home on Route Five, Franklinton. Interment was in the Crain’s Creek Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Myrtis Crain Branch, one son, four daughters, two sisters, twelve grandchildren and eight grandchildren. LAW, Randy J., age 21. A native of Mt. Hermon and resident of Baton Rouge died in a tractor accident near Amite on May 23rd. Interment was in the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in Covington. Survivors are his widow, Constance Law, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Law, one sister, two foster brothers, his grandmother, Eltha Rainey and a nephew. PIERCE, Ozzie Simmons, age 75. A native of Franklinton and former resident of Bogalusa died May 21st in Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas. Interment was in Ponemah Cemetery. A former Franklinton resident and a resident of Denham Springs died May 31st at Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Interment was in Ellis Cemetery. A resident of Franklinton died May 31st at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Enon Cemetery. A resident of Route Five Franklinton died June 27th at Riverside Medical Center. Interment was in the Nobles Cemetery. A resident of Williams Street, Franklinton died June 28th at Riverside Medical Center. His only survivor is his widow, Margaret Sharp Creel. Interment was in the Nobles Cemetery. JENKINS, Christine (Tina), age 77. She died June 23rd at her home on Route Three, Franklinton. Interment was in the Wallace Cemetery. A resident of Route 2, Kentwood died June 23rd after a St. Helena parish truck crash. Interment was in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery at Bolivar. A resident of Route 2, Franklinton died July 12 in a motorcycle accident on the Middle Franklinton-Bogalusa Highway (Hwy 439). Interment was in the Smith Cemetery at Sheridan. A resident of Iowa, La. died July 4th at Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, LA. She was born in Tarsney, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen J. DeWolf, a son and a daughter. WILLOUGHBY, Effie Magee, age 85. A native of Franklinton and long-time resident of Bogalusa died July 7th at the Community Medical Center in Bogalusa. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. She was the daughter of the late Robert D. and Clotilde Wood Magee and was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Willoughby. THOMAS, Talmadge Hardy “Joe”, age 62. He died July 21st at his residence on Bailey Avenue in Forth Worth, Texas. He was a native of Washington Parish. Interment was in the Nobles Cemetery. Survivors are two sons, two brothers and one sister. GILL, Jennifer, age 18 months. A resident of Route Two, Mt. Hermon died July 21st at Riverside Medical Center from injuries of an automobile. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Forshag and is survived by one niece. ANDERSON, Randell Dewayne, age 3 months.
