She was born April 7, 1900 in Old Pike County, MS. She was a member of the Stateline Pentecostal Church. She is survived by a son, Jesse Warren Rushing of Hattiesburg, MS; four daughters, Kathryn Kennedy of Tylertown, Norma Jean Turnage of Hattiesburg, Jennie Warren of Franklinton and Vickie Falvey of Frederickburg, VA: 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Rushing; two sons, June and Jerome Rushing; two sisters, Edna Beard and Ouida Gomez; five brothers, Jesse, Josh, George, Willie and Doc Hopkins; and her parents, George and Hester Rose Hopkins. Visitation was at the Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home from 4 until 9 p.m. January 22. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 23 in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. W. L. Tullos and Dan Slocum officiating. Pallbearers were Tony and Ross Kennedy, Darrel and Jay Warren, Preston Rushing, Louis Turnage and Robert T. Turnage. He was a native of Logansport, Indiana and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary L. Young Smith of Franklinton; three children, Donna Marie Norton and her husband, Donald of Pine, Robert Jay Smith Jr. of Houston, TX and Jimmy Anthony Smith and his wife Natalie of San Diego, CA; eight grandchildren, Jonathon G. Norton, Christopher L. Norton, Victoria M. Smith, Anthony J. Smith, Stephanie, Nichole, Junior and Howard; two great-grandchildren; his step-father, Elmer Lee DeFrates of Bowie, TX; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Warren Smith and Mary Marie Bucks Smith. Visitation was at the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home in Bogalusa on Tuesday, January 28 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and continued on Wednesday after 9 a.m. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy L. Cefalu and Kathleen Julian both of Franklinton; two sisters, Myrtle Evans of Natchez and Evelyn Brumfield of Tylertown; five grandchildren, Corey White, Collin White, Max Julian, Kevin Cefalu and Kim Cefalu. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred C. Lang; a son, James C. Lang; and two brothers, Lindsey Erwin and Scott Erwin. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Friday, January 31 at Lang-Simmons Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Corkern, Max Julian, Kevin Cefalu, Karen Hobgood, Corey and Colin White. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 02-05-2003 Roger Dale Reviere, Thailand Roger Dale Reviere, 50 a longtime resident of Thailand, died at 6:05 a.m. Thursday, January 30 at Veterans Hospital in New Orleans. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He is survived by a son, A.J. Reviere of Thailand; a daughter, Dina Salmon of Roswell, New Mexico; his mother, Ola Mae Hickman Reviere of Franklinton; two brothers, Bill Reviere of Covington and Johnny Reviere of Bemidji, MN; and two sisters, Eloise Jarrell of Melville, LA and Nell Loyd of Covington. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Reviere; a sister, Geraldine Sharp; and a brother, Jimmy Reviere. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 10 a.m. Saturday until time for funeral services at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Leon Hickman and Rev. Ray Major officiating. Interment was in the Tyson Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 02-05-2003 Nurcelia Magee Stringfield, Franklinton Nurcelia Magee Stringfield, 99, a resident of Washington Parish, died Wednesday, January 29 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. She was the daughter of Robert Elbert Magee and Florence Adeline Magee and the Widow of Bene Butler Stringfield. After graduating from Louisiana College in 1925 she taught English and Latin in Sulphur and then in Franklinton. She retired in 1943. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by a brother, Shelby Taylor Magee of Franklinton; a son, Butler Stringfield of Columbia, MO; a grandson; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Margarite “Maggie” Levica Wascom Corkern, Eda Iona Wascom Jones, Alice Magee Rushing and Eloise Magee; three brothers, Luther Leander Wascom, Robert Eldridge Magee and Murphey Foster Magee. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Sunday until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Jerry Barlow officiating. She was a graduate of LSU and taught at Charles H. Milby High School for over fifteen years. She was an active member of Park Place Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Merrill G. and David Laurentz, Carol G. and Rob Mitchell and Louis Gremillion; two grandchildren, Matthew and Sidney Laurentz; a sister, Hilda Sones; sisters-in-law, Alpha Leah Spence and husband John and Floramye Todd; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Louis Gremillion Jr; and her parents, Charles Louis and Louell Jewell Painter Tynes. He was a member of Water Valley Church of God in Christ and was ordained as a deacon under the leadership of Elder Norman Johnson. He is survived by five daughters, Clara (Albert) Smith, Hilda (C.M.) Alexander, Alfredia Magee, Annie Conerly, Tuler (Andre) Sterling Sr.; three sons, Leroy (Shirley) Causey, Arizona (Madora) Causey and George Causey; thirty-eight grandchildren; sixty-five great-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Causey; his wife of 60 years, Missionary Lucy Weary Causey; a son, Altus H. Causey Sr.’ four brothers and two sisters. A Homecoming Celebration was held at Water Valley C.O.G.I.C. in Hackley at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 1 with Bishop Howard E. Quillen officiating. Pallbearers were Andre Sterling Jr., Roy Lester Causey, Billy Ray Causey, Curtis Alexander, Calvest Smith and Charles Conerly. Honorary Pallbearers were Leroy Causey, George Causey, C.M. Alexander, Arizona (Bill) Causey, Albert Smith and Andre Sterling Sr. Interment was in the Mt. Moriah M. B. Church Cemetery. Washington Funeral Home in McComb, MS was in charge of arrangements. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 02-05-2003 Sidney Albert Blakeman Sr. Harvey Sidney Albert Blakeman Sr, 89, a resident of Harvey, died Sunday January 26 at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was a retired U.S. Department of Agriculture employee, a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and a chief paymaster in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was survived by a son, Sidney Albert Blakeman Jr.; daughter-in-law, Sharon A. Blakeman; a brother, Raymond Blakeman; four grandchildren, Ann Blakeman Cardwell, Deanne Blakeman Polito, Sherry Carter Richard and Christy Carter Larousse; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtle Jenson Blakeman; and his second wife, Gladys Blakeman. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 20 at Mothe Funeral Home in Marrero. Graveside services followed at San Pedro Cemetery in Franklinton with Bro. Cecil Burch and Bro. Sammy Smith officiating.
