She was a member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd T. and Cathy Thomas of Pine; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Stewart of Pine and Rosetta and Malcolm James of Franklinton; three brothers, Ancil Penton of Pine; William “Bill” Penton of Sheridan and Edsel Penton of Stateline; one sister, Luzina Branch of Pine; 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 12 great- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Nollie S. Thomas, a grandson, Jeff Thomas, a granddaughter, Keitha Breland, great-grandson, Micah Ladner, her parents John and Mary L. Penton, three brothers, J.E. Wheat, Odean Penton and Wilson Penton. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday. A funeral service was held on Thursday at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Elder Ben Watley, Elder Billy Ray Hines and Elder Edward Penton officiating. Pallbearers were Jimmy Stewart, Tim Thomas, Mickey Thomas, Rickey Thomas, Dale Pittman, Ken James and Willie J. Penton. Burial was in the church cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Carrie Wallace Thigpen, Franklinton Carrie Wallace Thigpen, age 95, and a resident of Franklinton, died at 3:08 a.m. Friday, September 29, at Riverside Medical Center. She was a charter member of Sunlight Baptist Church and the widow of Adnel Thigpen. She is survived by one sister, Exie W. Hughes of Franklinton, several nieces and nephews. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Reverend Charles Abbey officiated. Pallbearers were Behrman Wallace, Tommy Casanova, Jack Wallace, Nathan Wallace, Aubrey Gatewood and Kenny Gatewood. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sarah Nell Gibson Williams, Fontana, California Sarah Nell Gibson Williams, 75, a native of Franklinton and resident of Fontana, CA for many years, died Sunday, September 24 at The Beverly Manor Nursing Home in Seal Beach, CA. She was a retired registered nurse with Kaiser Hospital in Fontana with 25 years of nursing in the OB/Delivery Room. She is survived by four sons, Robert Williams of Fontana; Alfred “Al” Williams of Franklinton; , Milton and Jeffery Williams of Rio Alto, CA; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Sharon) Claphon of Garden Grove, CA, and Joan Hubert of Floresville, TX; Also survived by 16 granchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon A. Gibson of Covington, LA, Jesse “Jack” Gibson (Marilyn) of Franklinton; two sisters, Evelyn Givson Beghtol of Clarksville, TN and Mrs. Holyne (Geraldine) Passman of Franklinton, LA, and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Gibson of Bogalusa, LA. Also numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcia Williams; her parents, Lee and Taphenea Gibson; three brothers, Harold, Alfred and John Gibson and two sisters, Hazel Pellegrin and Faye Galloway. Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept 26 at Green Acres Funeral Home with service held the following day and graveside services at Green Acres Memorial Park in Bloomington, CA. The Reverend Gary Sish officiated. A memorial service was also held on October 3 for local family and friends at the Springhill Baptist Church with the Reverend Pete Williams and the Reverend Thomas L. Graves officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requested donations to the American Diabetes Association or Bogue Chitto Heights Mission Church or Springhill Baptist Church, both of Franklinton or a charity of your choice.
