He is a resident and native of Franklinton. He is survived by his wife, Dixie Lean Varnado of Franklinton; six sons, Harry (Ann) Anders of Baton Rouge, Richard Earl Anders, and Vince Varnado of Franklinton, Darryl Anders of Atlanta, Georgia, Major Hermon of New Orleans, and Bobby Earl Varnado of Los Angeles, CA; five daughters, Loretta Gatlin, Mona Lisa Fowler, Sandra Hewitt, Sharon Henry, and Vickie Anders of Franklinton; two sisters, Juanita Holts and Helen Varnado of Los Angeles, CA; one brother, Eddie D. Varnado of Franklinton; thirty grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; a mother-in-law, Gertrude Pittman of Franklinton; three loving sons-in-law, Thad Gatlin, Antonio Magee, and Ervin Hart; a special son, Louis Corkern; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation was held Monday, October 23, 2000 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a wake service following from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 24, 2000 at Magee’s Temple Church of God in Christ with Rev. Ceceline Tate officiating. Burial followed in Hayes Creek Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Maxine D. Fisher, Franklinton Maxine D. Fisher, 68, a resident of Franklinton died at Riverside Medical Center on Monday, October 23, 2000. She is survived by two sons, Mizell (Julia Marie) Fisher of Franklinton and Eddie Fisher of Loranger; six daughters, Mary (Dan) Rayford of Clinton, Mississippi, Diana Barnett of, Kenner, Janice (Louis) Voltz of new Orleans, Brenda Hewitt and Shirley Hewitt both of Franklinton and Stacey (Timothy) Bright of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister Ida Mae Pittman of Sandy Hook, Mississippi; eighteen grandchildren; two loving sons-in-law, Bobby Smith and Leroy Garrett both of Franklinton; one daughter-in-law, Thelma Fisher; a special great grandson, Xavier I. Hewitt of Franklinton and a host of great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held Thursday, October 26, 2000 at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., followed by a wake service from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral services were held Friday, October 27, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. at Greater Hayes Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Jerome Warren officiating. Burial followed in Fisher Family Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Roland Kelly Varnado I, Arkansas Mr. Roland Kelly Varnado I of Nella Arkansas, passed away Tuesday October 24 in Scott County. He was born July 25, 1947 in Gulf Port, Mississippi. His age being 53 years 2 months and 29 days. Mr. Varnado was the son of the late Chester A. Varnado and the late Kella Rainey. He was united in marriage to Linda Sudduth on November 26, 1994 in Mena, Arkansas. He made his home in Nella for the past 20 years, was a farmer and a mechanic and was a member of the New Life Center Church in Waldron and was active in the choir. He is survived by his wife, Linda Varnado of Nella, AR; three children, Roland Kelly Varnado, II of Baton Rouge, Regina K. Matlock of Edna, TX, and Richard Kyle Varnado of Nella, AR; two step-sons, Michael Gebhardt of Hamilton, NJ and Joshua Gebhardt of Cherry Hill, AR; one brother, Chester A. Varnado, Jr. of Walker, LA; one sister, Cessise V. Lee of Watston, LA; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 27 in the Shiloh Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Isham and Bro. Jerry Isham officiating. Burial followed in the Shiloh Cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jessie Crowe Goings, Franklinton Mr. Jessie Crowe Goings, 91, a resident of Franklinton died at 5:40 p.m. Sunday at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. She was a member at Stony Point Missionary Baptist church and the widow of Carl Goings. She is survived by one daughter, Charline Cefalu of Franklinton; one son, Richard Goings of Pensacola, FL; two brothers, Wilton Crowe and Charlie Crowe both of Baton Rouge; three sisters, Harriet Bullock, Evelyn Jenkins both of Franklinton and Maxine Moak of Mt. Hermon; six grandchildren; thirteen grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Monday and after 8 a.m. Tuesday. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Eld. Brent King, Eld. James Broome, Eld. Rodney Fernandez and Eld. Mike Brumfield officiating. Burial followed in the Stoney Point Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service were Ronnie Moak, Russell Moak, Scott Moak, Earl Bullock, Nathan Verret, and Billy Ray Breland. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lloyd (Norma) Roseberry, Hattiesburg Mrs. Lloyd (Norma) Roseberry, 92, died October 16, 2000, at Forrest General Hospital. Born in Bogalusa, LA, she moved to Hattiesburg in 1927 when she became the wife of Lloyd Roseberry, co-owner of Roseberry Piano House. They were married for 55 years before his death in 1982. They were the parents of Bob Roseberry who preceded them in death in 1978. Mrs. Roseberry’s sister, Dorothy Bennett Smith, made her home with the Roseberry’s at an early age after the death of her mother. Survivors are her daughter-in-law, Jeane Roseberry of Hattiesburg; grandchildren, Robinm Brookshire and husband Dee of Dothan, Ala., Rebecca Ratliff and husband Mike of Hattiesburg, Robert Roseberry II of Hattiesburg, Dottie Ann and Alvin Fortenberry of Metairie, LA, sisters, Dorothy Smith of Hattiesburg, and Verna Gibbs of Franidinton, LA sister-in-law, Lorena Roseberry Smith of Hattiesburg; and great-grandchildren, Lauren Sims Hauge, Lucy Sims, Jeane Carroll Brookshire, Caroline Ratliff, Claire Ratliff, Paige Graham, Brennan Graham, and Hunter Graham. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, with the Rev. Dr. Dick Allison officiating. Interment was in Highland Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers for the service were J. Kearney Travis, Jim Roseberry, Jerry Reed, Tom Rhea Phillips III, Charles G. Brenke, Jr., Adam F. Graves IV, and Alvin Fortenberry.
