He was survived by a daughter, Victoria Levetta Boutte of Lake Charles; a son Roy Edward Pierce of St. Charles, MO; a brother, Shelby Pierce of Grambling, LA; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was at Sweet Home Church of Christ Holiness (U.S.A.) on Monday, January 13 from 9 a.m. until time for funeral services. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at the church with Elder Washington E. Drake officiating. Interment was in the Sweet Home Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Franklinton Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 01-15-2003 Carolyn Austin Clance, De Kalb, TX Carolyn Austin Clance, 59, a resident of De Kalb, TX, died in a car accident in Alabama on Thursday, January 9, 2003. She is survived by her husband, Norman Clance of Hazlehurst, GA; three sons, James Desadier of Mt. Belvieu, TX, Clyde Scott of De Kalb and Norman Clance, Jr. of Hazlehurst; two daughters, Tammy Chrisman of Hemphill, TX and Dana Hand of Hazlehurst; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Maedell and Jack McCall of Natchez, MS, Mamie Bernice and Harold Boyette of Franklinton, and Bud Thornhill of Newellton; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Austin of Baytown, TX and Sandy Austin of Kemah, TX; 14 grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Carson Austin, Claydeen Austin, Curly Austin and M. L. Austin; and a sister Merlene Thornhill. Visitation was at the Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Interment was in the Magnolia Cemetery in Winnsboro. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Franklinton Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 01-15-2003 Iris Wascom, Burkhalter, Bethel Community Iris Wascom Burkhalter, 84, a resident of the Bethel Community, died at 7:40 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2003 at Our Lady of Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the widow of Buster B. Burkhalter. She is survived two sons and daughter-in-law, Buster Roy and Donna Burkhalter of Ocean Springs, MS and Charles R. “Rusty” Burkhalter of Franklinton; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon B. and Gary Hall of Baton Rouge; a brother, Clyde Wascom of Franklinton; a sister Lennie Wascom Moak of Bogalusa; five grandchildren, Donald Burkhalter, Craig Burkhalter, Kyle Burkhalter, Jamie Burkhalter and Allison Hall; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Hall, Jena Burkhalter, Drew Burkhalter and McCall Burkhalter. Preceded in death by a brother, Tillman J. Wascom and a sister, Exie W. Bankston. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday and after 1 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Gene Richards and Rev. Denny Brumfield officiating. He is survived by eight nephews five nieces, 16 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nephews. Visitation was at the Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday. A funeral services was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Eld. Mark Hobgood officiating. Pallbearers were Chico Valdez, Terry Thomas, Milton Penton, Robert Harvey, Robert Daughtery and Joe Penton. Interment was in the Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
