He was a retired linotype printer for The Era Leader and Delta Printing Company, a WWII Veteran, a member of Homer Magee Post 113 American Legion, also a member of Latimore Passman Post 7196 VFW and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He is survived by several nieces and nephews: Jerry and Barbara Simmons, Sara Simmons Newman, Jeremy Simmons, Tonya Simmons and Scotty Wilkinson, and Kim Newman all of Jackson, MS, Peggy and Robert Overby, Alvin and Barbara Williams, Kenny and Linda Mason all of Virgina; Also other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Newcomb Mizell and a sister Christine Mizell Simmons and his mother, Vera Poole Chester. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Wednesday until time for funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Lyndle Bullard and Rev. James Poole officiating. Burial followed in the Ellis Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service were Clyde Poole, Jeremy Simmons, Dan Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Kenny Mason, and Alan Burris. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Durwin ‘Shorty’ Bond, Franklinton Durwin “Shorty” Bond, age 79, and a native and resident of Franklinton and longtime resident of California, died at 3 PM Sunday, in Franklinton. He was retired plumber, a veteran of WWII U.S. Army Air Corps and a member of the Bolivar Baptist Church. He is survived by one sone and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Pam Bond of Lakeside, CA; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and John Roudebush of Fortuna, CA. Also survived by four grandchildren, Christine Boozel, Shanna Buys, Haley and Lesley Roudebush and five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Woodson Bond of Franklinton, Douglas Bond of Sulphur, LA, C.F. “Charlie” Bond of Wilmer and Jewel Bond, Jr. of Denham Springs; two sisters, Irma B. Pettit of Franklinton and Nelda B. Hair of Bogalusa. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorcas Bond; parents, Jewel and Isabel Penny Bond and sister Yuvonne Edwards. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton from 5 PM until 9 PM Wednesday and after 9AM Thursday. Funeral services were at 11 AM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Dan Bond and the Reverend Lonnell Johnson officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Edwards, Joey Edwards, Ricky Sheridan, Frank Babin, Jewell Bond III, Aaron Bond and Fletcher Bond. Burial was in the Ellis Cemetery in Franklinton. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eula McKenzie Miller, Mt. Pisgah Community Eula McKenzie Miller, 80, a resident of the Mt. Pisgah Community died at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. She was a retired food service worker and Riverside Medical Center and the widow of Leo Miller. She was also a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Michael Miller of Mt. Hermon; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Theresa Miller of Mt. Pisgah and Rev. Joey and Karen Miller of River Ridge, LA; one brother, James McKenzie of Salem; two sisters, Frances Pope of Franklinton and Lois Fulgham of Salem; fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday and continued after 10 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church until time for funeral services. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Richard Bailey, Dr. Gene Richards and Rev. Otho Schilling officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers for the services were Duane McKenzie, Herman McKenzie, Ronald Pope, Donald Willis, Perry McKenzie, and Randy McKenzie. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ray D. Valliant, Mt. Hermon Ray D. Valliant, 49, a former resident of Mt. Hermon and a resident of Covington died Sunday, December 10, in a motocycle accident near Bush. He is survived by a daughter, Katina Valliant of Tylertown, Ms; a son, Trampus Valliant, also of Tylertown; his mother, Adele Hawthorne Valliant of Houston, TX, and a grandson, Josef LaCroiz. Also survived by two brothers, Wayne Valliant of Memphis, TN and Lewis Valliant of Houston, TX; two sisters, Donna McFarlin of Mt. Hermon and Alys Holmes of Memphis, TN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Stoddard Valliant. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home after noon Friday until time of the service at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel. Pallbearers for Mr. Valliant were members of the Road Disciples Motocycle Club, Ax, Nasty, Badger, Bo, Outlaw, Traveler and Miyagi. Burial was in the Bogue Chitto Baptist Church Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Annie Bell Jones, Folsom Annie Bell Jones, 58, a resident of Folsom died Tuesday, November 26, 2000 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington. She is survived by three sons, Robert Jones, Chance Marteza Jones, and Henry Lenoir of Folsom; five sisters, Melvria Brumfield, JoAnn James, Mae Thelma May, Brenda Garrett, and Gloria Garrett; nine brothers, Weldon Garrett, Eugene Garrett, Garfrey Garrett, Danny Campbell, Ricky Garrett, Kim Garrett, Chris Garrett, Jerry Garrett, and Rayfus Garrett; one grandchild, Marlel Perkins and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held Tuesday, December 19, at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. with a wake service following from 7 p.m. at Greater Payne A.M.E. Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 20, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. Nathaniel Cyprian and Rev. John R. Perry officiating. Burial followed in Folsom Community Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Willis L. “Roy” Watson, Covington Willis L. “Roy” Watson, 81, of Covington died Wednesday December 20, 2000 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Claudette Couvillion Watson. Father of Mary Anna “Molly” Stagg and husband Rev. Philip L. Stagg and Sarah Elizabeth “Sally” Pendergast and husband Jim Pendergast. Brother of the late Herman and Winfred Watson. Grandfather of Seymon Saxon “Windy” Hartzog, III, and wife Pamela Hartzog. Anna Elizabeth Goodman and husband John Goodman, Preston Scott Hartzog, Jim Pendergast and wife Betsy, John Pendergast and wife Claire. Joe Pendergast and wife Janine and Tom Pendergast and wife Gracie. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren. A native of St. Helena Parish, LA. And resident of Covington, LA for the past 4 and a half years. Funeral services were held at the Amite-Arcola Presbyterian Church. W. Walnut St., Amite on Friday December 22, 2000 at 11:00 AM. With Rev. Philip Lowell Stagg and Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Arcola-Roseland Cemetery. Friends of the family may visit from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Church.
