He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Statham Brooks of Franklinton, three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Shirley Brooks, Kelvin and Melanie Brooks, and Todd and Lucretia Brooks, all of Franklinton; three daughters and sons- in-law, Theresa and Bill Bullock of Sandy Hook, Melinda and Vince Barber and Stacey and Paul Dillon, both of Franklinton; eight brothers, Roy Brooks of Gloster, MS, Hulon Brooks, Jr. Of Kingwood, Ray Brooks and David Brooks of Mt. Hermon, Wayne Brooks of Tyler town, James Brooks of Franklinton, and Paul Brooks and Jimmy Brooks of Pine; four sisters, Irene Blalock of Bogalusa, Nell Talley and Shirley Talley, both of Pine, and Minnie Pearl Lilly of Mt. Hermon , and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hulon L. And Christine Tarver Brooks; and two brothers, Larry Earl Brooks and Peter Harold Brooks. Visitation was after 5 p.m. Sunday until time for the funeral service at Faith Tabernacle Church, Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the church with Rev. Jerry Cox officiating. His brothers served as pallbearers. Interment was in the church cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, Louisiana 12-04-2002 William Dewitt Holmes Jr., Franklinton William Dewitt Holmes, Jr, 78, a resident of Franklinton, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday at his residence. He was a retired electrician with gulf Oil Corporation. He was a charter member and deacon of the Victory Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer and Sunday School teacher for many years. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Everett Holmes of Franklinton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Frances Holmes of Franklinton, and Ken and Gale Holmes of New Iberia; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Brent Holmes of Pass Christian, MS; four grandchildren, Sandra Gentry, Darin and Brent Holmes and Charles Raymond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt, Sr. And Vickie Magee Holmes; and three brothers, Robert Glen Holmes, Harry Holmes and Paul Holmes. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 8p.m. Saturday and after 10 a.m. Sunday. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Larry Archote officiating. Pallbearers were Charles David Reymond, Johnny Everett, Darin Holmes, Brent Holmes, Joe Wayne Sandifer and Mike Tullos. Honorary pallbearers were Morris Fisher and Gary King. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, Louisiana 12-04-2002 Fern Harvin Jenkins, St. Bernard Parish Fern Harvin Jenkins, 83, a native of St. Helena Parish and a resident of St. Bernard Parish, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Chalmette Medical Center. She was the widow of Floyd Jenkins and a retired clerk with the St. Helena Parish School Board office. She is survived by three children, Gale J. And Ronnie Warren of Amite, Debbie J. And Shelton McMillan of Chalmette, and Rick Jenkins of Gardener, MT; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda H. Mattio and Eve Harvin of Metairie; also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Harvin and Leon Harvin. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Hoe after 9 a.m. Monday until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Casey Tingle officiated. Pallbearers were Don Warren, John Warren, Greg Harbin, Clay Harbin, Danny Fernandez and Hal Harbin. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, Louisiana 12-04-2002 James Travis Dent, Franklinton James Travis Dent, 81, a native of Mississippi, longtime resident of New Orleans and a current resident of Franklinton, died Thursday at Heritage Manor in Franklinton. He was a retired architect and served as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force in WWII. He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Dent Cody of Franklinton and a nephew, Jr. James Cody of Franklinton. A memorial service will be held at a later date. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, Louisiana 12-04-2002 Lawrence Joseph “L.J.” Landry, Baton Rouge Lawrence Joseph “L.J.” Landry, Jr., 44, a resident and native of Baton Rouge, died at 4 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2002 in Baton Rouge. He was a heating and air conditioning technician with L. J. Enterprises. He was a member of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church in Baton Rouge and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his parents. Lawrence, Joseph, Sr. and Eda Earl Wood Landry of Baton Rouge; his wife, Debbie DeLatte of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Stephanie Michelle Landry of Baton Rouge; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Patricia and Steven LaRochelle of Baton Rouge, Carolyn and Ray Welch of Watson, Linda and Mark Kuhn of Grandfalls, TX, Susan and James Glass II of Conroe, TX, and Laura Lee Landry of Baton Rouge; three nieces; five nephews and one great-nephew. He was preceded n death by a sister Angela Landry; grandparents, Freddie and Mable Wood, who were residents of Washington Parish; and Robert and Odile Landry who were residents of Point Coupee Parish. Visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday and after 1 p.m. at the Florida Boulevard Baptist Church until time for funeral services. Funeral service was held at the church at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Dr. Louis Boyd officiating. Active pallbearers were Tim Parrott, Steven LaRochelle, Ray Welch, Mark Kuhn, James Glass II, and Gary LeBlanc. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Smith, George Chapman, Mark Tortorich and Hubert D. Wood.
