He was retired co-owner of Moore and Jenkins Insurance Agency in Franklinton with a 40-year career in the business. He was a graduate of LSU where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity. He was past president of the Franklinton Rotary Club, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and was also an officer and Board member of the Franklinton Country Club. Duke was an active member of the Centenary United Methodist Church Where he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees for several years. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kelli M. and David Darbonne of Lake Charles and JoJan Moore of Mandeville; four grandsons, Christopher Darbonne, Andrew Darbonne, Evan Darbonne and Alexander Darbonne; a sister and brother-in-law, John Upchurch of Louisville, MS; a special cousin, Judy Moore Rabuffo of Franklinton; a nephew, Scott Jenkins; and six nieces, Leanne J. Norris, Faith Bahm, Patri Gast, Memory Mobley, Sue Ellen Taylor and Carolyn DeKilder. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Upchurch Moore and his parents, George D. and Marah Burris Moore. Visitation was at the Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Lyndle Bullard and Rev. Percy Mac Frazier officiating. Active Pallbearers were Larry Gast, Ronald Habetz, Scott Jenkins, Don Lewis, John Moore and Ken Stringer. Honorary pallbearers were William F. Babington, Johnny Darbonne, John Denison, Gerald Foret, Jim Fowler, Larry Fussell, Johnnie Green, E. J. Hebert, Leo Liuzza, Leo Lucchisi, Ron McGlothlin, Aubrey McMillan, R.W. Richardson, Robert Seeger, and Elton Thomas. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. Tyler Street, Covington, LA 70433. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 01-29-203 Winfred Denman Walker, Jr., Franklinton Winfred Denman Walker, Jr., 75, a resident of Franklinton, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma. He was a member of Stoney Missionary Baptist Church. He was a 1950 graduate of LSU, a retired dairy farmer and a member of the Franklinton Masonic Lodge F&AM. He is survived his wife, Goldie Lee Walker of Franklinton; a son and daughter- in-law, E. Jerome and Barbara Walker of Franklinton; two daughters and sons-in- law, Deborah and Don Lowery of Seminary, MS and Beverly and Chad Walker of Bourg, LA; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Walker, Dennye and Clint Berry, Jerry and Brenda Walker, Beau and Misty Lowery, Danielle, Brady and Amanda Walker, and Todd Lowery; two great-grandsons, Colton Walker and Jared Berry. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.D. and Fannie Walker; three brothers, Paul, Carey and David Walker. Visitation was at the Crain Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday. Visitation continued after 9 a.m. Saturday at Stoney Point Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at the Church with Eld. Brent King officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Walker, Beau Lowery, Todd Lowery, Clint Berry, Brady Walker and Mark Lee. Interment was in the church cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 01-29-203 Ray Pettitt, Franklinton Ray Pettit, 87, a resident of Franklinton, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, January 26 at Riverside Medical Center. He was owner of Pettitt Firestone for many years and later of Franklinton Appliance Store. He served on the Board of Directors of First Finance Company. He was past president of Franklinton Chamber of Commerce and Franklinton Lions Club. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WWII and past commander of Homer Magee Post 113 American Legion. He was Deacon Emeritus of First Baptist Church also served several terms as chairman of deacons. He was a member and teacher of Friendship Sunday School Class and longtime director of Men’s Brotherhood. He was a member of Spring Creek Lodge and Franklinton Lodge #101. He was a charter member of Washington Parish Hospital District #1 (Riverside Medical Center). He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; two sisters-in-law, Aline K. Smith and Velma C. Knith; and a special friend, Nelda Stevens, all of Franklinton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Knight Pettitt. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. Tuesday with a Masonic service at 2:15 p.m. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Barlow and Dr. Jim Baines officiating. Pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers were Homer Post American Legions, other deacons and members of Friendship Sunday School Class, also Larry Magee, Ricky Magee, J. L. Miller and Ray Varnado. Interment was in the Ellis Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 01-29-203 Elsie Otis, Bogalusa Elsie Otis, 95, a resident of Resthaven Nursing Home in Bogalusa, died Monday, January 20 in New Orleans. She was a native of Franklinton. She is survived by a sister, Mable Warner of New Orleans; three brothers, Louis “L.B.” Magee of New Orleans, Warren Magee of Tylertown, MS, and Benjamin “B.J.” Magee of Bogalusa; six grandchildren, Yusef Komunyakaa of Princeton, NJ, Charles Brown of Franklinton, Arthur Ray Brown of Wichita, Kansas, Glenn Brown and Buster Causey of New Orleans and Mary Conerly of Bogalusa; an adopted great granddaughter, Anita Peters of New Orleans; children she reared; a grandson, Alonzo Brown of Wichita, Kansas; a great-great-grandson, Laduris Peters of New Orleans; and a host of Great-grand-children, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation was at Crain and Sons Funeral Home Friday, January 24 from 2 p.m., until 7 p.m. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 25 at 11 a.m. at Hayes United Methodist church with Rev. Terrence August officiating. Interment was in the Hayes Chapel Cemetery.
