Jack G. Collins, Franklinton Rev. Jack G. Collins, 84, a resident of Franklinton, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003 at St. Tammany Hospital in Covington. He served as pastor of several area churches and was also a teacher in the Washington Parish Schools. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty Donovan Collins of Franklinton; three children, Carolyn J. Collins of Las Vegas, NV, Marvin L. Collins of Baton Rouge and Bonnie C. Mitchell of Bogalusa; six grandchildren, Vicki L. Colvin, Jackie C. Hall, Sean M. Collins, Jennifer T. Mitchell, William “Bo” Mitchell and Missy C. Mitchell, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Glenn Collins; his mother, Cora Bell Joyce Collins; and a sister, Mildred Joyce Collins. Visitation was at the Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday and after 8 a.m. Tuesday. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Gilbert and Rev. Denny Brumfield officiating. Pallbearers were Bo Mitchell, Scott Crain, Reid Corkern, Mike Corkern, Dan Mittleman, Dale Etheridge, Mark Hall and Brent Hoggot. Interment was in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 03-12-2003 Billie Paul Bell, Franklinton Billie Paul Bell, 51, a resident of Franklinton, Louisiana died Saturday, March 1, 2003 at Riverside Medical Center. He was a former resident of Seattle, WA and member of Starlight Baptist Church in Slidell. He is survived by his mother, Lillie Dean Bell of Franklinton; six sisters, Brenda (Felton) Washington, Jerri (Nathaniel) Thomas, Sharon Bell, and Kathy Bell of Seattle, WA, Cheryln Partman of Franklinton and Lori Bell of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Larry (Earnstein) Bell of Gulfport, MS and Ronald C. Bell of Franklinton, and sixteen nieces and nephews, fifteen great nieces and nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held at Crain and Sons Funeral Home from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the Family Hour from 7 until 8 p.m. on Friday, March 7. A funeral service was held Saturday, March 8 at Bethel Church of Christ Holiness (U.S.A.) at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Collis Caldwell officiating. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 03-12-2003 Patricia “Tish” Scheuermann, Franklinton Patricia “Tish” Scheuermann, 55, a resident of Franklinton, died at 2:05 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2003 at Res Care in Franklinton. She is survived by her mother, Lilburne Stafford Scheuermann of Franklinton; two brothers, Jeffery L. Scheuermann of Slidell and Roger S. Scheuermann of Lafayette; three nephews, Alex, Greg and Ben Scheuermann; and three great-nephews, Joshua, Caleb and Gabriel Scheuermann. She was preceded in death by her father, William A. (Pat) Scheuermann. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 4 at Fisher Cemetery with Rev. Lyndle Bullard Officiating. Pallbearers were Denise Braniger, Hilda Brumfield, Monique Daniels, Barbara Tate, Cheri Breland and Fran Varnado. Tyler St., Covington, LA. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 03-12-2003 Matalee Phares Brumfield, Franklinton Matalee Phares Brumfield, 88 and a resident of Franklinton died at 4:45 AM Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at Riverside Medical Center. She was a retired nurse at Riverside Medical Center, a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and the widow of Max O. Brumfield. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Max O. Jr. and Pat Brumfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Martha Ann and Larry Davis of Franklinton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Jessie Phares, Carey and Yvonne Phares, all of Franklinton. She is survived by five grandchildren and spouses, Karmen B. and Ben Poole of Zachary, Max O. III and Resha Brumfield of Baker, Dee Davis and Wayne Polkey of Kokomo, MS, Lee and Mandy Davis of Franklinton and Leslie Davis, US Navy, San Diego, CA. Also survived by 14 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents Timothy and Annie Lea Phares and a brother, Steward Phares. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00-8:0 p.m. and on Saturday after 9:00a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Reverends Jim Richardson and Denny Brumfield officiated. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Keith Brumfield, James Phares, Sherman Phares, Bobbie Phares, Bobbie Phares, John Phares, Tim Phares and Mark Phares. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Era-Leader, Franklinton, LA 03-12-2003 Florence Babington Oppenheim, Franklinton Florence Babington Oppenheim, 98, and a resident of Franklinton died at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. She was the widow of Mayer Oppenheim. She is survived by one aunt, Frankie Bickham Rhodes, two nieces, Dauulphine B. Winters and Melba Farris and numerous cousins. A graveside service was held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at Ellis Cemetery in Franklinton. The Reverend Lyndel Bullard officiated at the burial service.
