He was a dairyman and member of the San Pedro Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Kennis Thornton Morgan of Franklinton; three daughters, Amber Jenkins, Kandis Morgan and Katelin Morgan, all of Franklinton; two brothers, Kenneth Morgan and Dennis Morgan, both of Franklinton and one sister, Neva Goff of Bogalusa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claiborn and Wilda Givens Morgan and one brother, Owen Kelly Morgan. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday and after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Elder Ted Phillips, Dr. Gene Richards and Brett Thornton officiating. Active pallbearers were Keith Morgan, Hollis Seal, Ted Holden, Clay Morgan, Greg Touchstone and Bryon Brumfield. Honorary pallbearers included Clint Cummins, Michael Alcorn, Donald Frickie, T.J. Brumfield, Glenn Crowe, Dewey Averett and Ricky Beaver. Burial was in the Morgan Family Cemetery on Belle Gardner Road. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Francis Joseph Richardson Francis Joseph Richardson, age 82, died in an automobile accident on Saturday, May 27 in Wilmington, NC. A memorial service was held at St. Anselm Church in Madisonville on June 1. He was the husband of the late Patricia Richardson and the late Stella Marie Schulze Richardson McLean. He is survived by his children, Margaret Ann Richardson Harris of Franklinton; Francis Joseph “Bud” Richardson III of Metairie, LA; Susan Elizabeth Richardson Weles of Wilmington and Rudolph Francis Richardson of Houston, TX. Also survived by two of his six brothers, Leo Richardson of Metairie and Joseph Francis Richardson of Covington, LA. He was stepfather of Michael Ellis of Mobile, AL and Everett Ellis of New Orleans. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Mr. Richardson was a member of St. Anselm Church Choir and was selected to sing at the Vatican for Pope John Paul II. His choir sang at the memorial service. He was a Navy Lt. Commander and the founding Captain of the Mansea Holy Week Retreat. A naval architect and marine engineer, he designed many off-shore vessels for the oil industry and was the manager of Gulf Offshore Fabricator Ship Yards. He was also Vice-president of Higgins Shipyard and designed the first hydro coil craft. He was a graduate of Cornell University and Dartmouth. He was known for his beautiful operatic-quality tenor voice and was heard in many churches over the years. His family is happy that he will now sing forever with the choir of angels. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Walter Allen Strahan Walter Allen Strahan, age 53, and a resident of Pine, LA, died at his resident at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, 2000. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sandra B. Strahan of Pine; two sons and daughter-in- law, Robert and Candie Strahan of Gulfport, MS, and Michael Strahan of Pine. Also survived by his mother, Genevia T. Strahan of Pine; two brothers, James W. Strahan of Alabama and Ronald W. Strahan of Pass Christian, MS, and one sister, Droothy Jackson of McComb, MS. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Monday evening and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday until time for the funeral at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. Elders Brent King and Billy Powell officiated. Pallbearers were Cory Steven, Darryl Cooper, Tracy Jackson, Louis Thomas, Edward McDonald and Levern Jenkins. Burial was in the Mt. Sinai Church Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wayne C. Crain Wayne C. Crain, age 89, and a resident of Pine, LA, died on Monday, May 29 at Riverside Medical Center. He was a member of Pine Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired teacher with the Wahington Parish Schools, having taught at Pine for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and a 50 year member of Pine Masonic Lodge #264 and also a member of the Royal Arch, Palestine Commandery #23 and Jerusalem Temple Shrine. He is survived by his wife, Estelle Bateman Crain of Pine, one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Geary McKenzie of Pine; three grandchildren, Steven McKenzie, Jason McKenzie and Leigh Ann McKenzie, all of Pine; one great-grandson, Caleb McKenzie and one sister, Myrtle Haag of St. Petersburg, FL. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold Crain, Amos Crain, and Willard Crain; four sisters, Marie Seal, Lexie Edwins, Wylmoth Denson and Iris Crain. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 until 10:00 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued at Pine Missionary Baptist Church on Wednesday until time for the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Elder Clyde Cooper, Elder James Broom and Dr. Wayne Cook officiated. Active pallbearers were Bill Crain, Jimmy Renfroe, Lucious Crain, Arnold Crain Jr., Danny Trusty and Donald Daniel. Honorary pallbearers were Leroy “Slick” Seal, Melvin Branch, Stanley Seal, Jerry McKenzie and member of Pine Lodge #264. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rebecca ‘Becky’ Freeman Jones Rebeccaa “Becky” Freeman Jones, age 25 and a resident of Franklinton died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday, June 1 at Slidell Memorial Hospital as a result of an automobile accident on Hwy. 10 near Bogalusa, LA. She was an employee of Danny’s Fried Chicken in Franklinton. She is survived by her husband, John Gregory Jones of Franklinton; one son, L.J. Gay of Franklinton; two daughters, Harley Freeman Jones and Theresa Grace Gay, both of Franklinton; three step-children, John Gregory Jones Jr., Justin Cody Jones, both of Poplarville, and Brandy Nicole Jones of Franklinton. Also survived by her mother, Geraldine Freeman of Bogalusa; three sisters, Shirley Freeman of Jackson, Peggy Freeman and Susie Freeman, both of Bogalusa; one brother, Dale Freeman Jr., of Bogalusa. She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Freeman Sr. and grandparents, Acie and Molly Freeman. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. after 10:00 p.m. Saturday. A funeral service was conducted at the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. with Elders Ted Phillips and Edward Penton Officiating. Pallbearers were Scott Freeman, Jeff Freeman, Chad Freeman, Kevin Freeman, Mark Jones and Tony Jones. Burial was in the Crain’s Creek Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eugene Pittman Eugene Pittman, 80, a former resident of 306 16th Avenue, Franklinton, died on Saturday, May 27 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Franklinton. He is survived by two sisters, Lelia Mae Pittman of Bogalusa, LA, and Gertrude Pittman of Franklinton and thirty-two children. Visitation was held at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton from 3:00 p.m. until time of dismissal on Wednesday, June 7 at noon. Burial was in Green Magee Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Betty Lynn Hart Calahan Betty Lynn Hart Calahan, 44, died on Tuesday May 30, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covingotn, LA. She was a resident of 1129 Parker Street in Franklinton. She is survived by her mother, Sister Ora Lee Hart of and her father, Brother Hilton Hart of Franklinton; five sisters, Carolyn Hart of Atlanta, GA, Marilyn (Rev. Larry) Magee of Franklinton; Sandra (J.D.) Manning and Sheral (Donald) George of Baton Rouge and Ishea Hart of Bogalusa; five brothers, Rev. Lawrence M. Hart of Shreveport, LA, Rev. Douglas (Bronis) Hart, Cameron Hart, Lewis Hart and Richard of Franklinton and Derrick Keith Dillon of Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation was at Crain and Sons Funeral Home Monday, June 5 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 6 at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Hayes Creek Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Jerome Warren officiating. Interment was in Greater Hayes Creek Cemetery.
