She was a cashier at Jr. Food Mart in Folsom. She is survived by her father and step mother, Paul Wilson and Ruth Marie Bailey of Franklinton; two brothers, Bobby Earl Bailey and Samuel Paul Bailey both of Franklinton; two sisters, Susanet Passman, Angelicia Bailey both of Franklinton; one niece, Jessica Lynn Passman of Franklinton; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members. She was preceded in death by her mother Emma Jean Schilling Cooper and step- father Michael Cooper. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Sunday Sunday until time for funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Richard Bailey and Rev. Jerry Cox officiating. Burial followed in the Nobles Cemetery at Pine. Pallbearers for the service were Hollis Stogner, Jr., Ronald Wayne Schilling, George Hingle, Robin Burch, Stanley Schilling, and Mark Crain. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Doyle D. Barber Doyle D. Barber, 69, a longtime resident of Franklinton died at 4:00 p.m., Saturday at Golden Age Nursing Home in Denham Springs. He was a member of the Poplarhead Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by three sons, Alex Barber, Gregory Barber, and Rocky Barber all of Atmore, AL; one brother, Robbie Strahan of Denham Springs; and one sister, Jackie Mizell of Albany. He was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Luper Strahan and a brother Dudley Strahan. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Eld. Ted Phillips officiating. Burial followed in the Strahan Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service were Greg Strahan, Geoffrey Strahan, Garlon Strahan, Jonathan Strahan, Kevin White, and Robbie Strahan. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sharyn L. Bateman Sharyn L. Bateman, 54, of Ocilla, GA died Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA. Sharyn had lived in Ocilla since 1992 from Baton Rouge, LA she was a secretary and member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church. She was a former secretary for the Louisiana Department of Wild Life and Fisheries and was president and a member of the Ocilla Pilot Club. She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Wade Bateman, Jr., of Ocilla, GA; two sons, Ty Lusk, of Marseille, France and Joel Lusk of Savannah, Georgia; one brother, Elbert E. Ford of Seattle, WA and one cousin, Ina Clare Shirley of Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Iler Marie (Darby) Ford and Elbert E. Ford, II. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Paulk Funeral Home in Ocilla, GA. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., August 21, 2000 at Ocilla United Methodist Church in Ocilla. The Reverend Kirk Loyless officiated. Family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Clifford Wilson Gerald Clifford Wilson Gerald, 78, a resident of Greenwell Springs, LA, and a retired sheriff deputy for East Baton Rouge Parish, died Thursday, August 17 in Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary, LA. He was a member of the Louisiana Peace Officers Association. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dottie C. Gerald; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ricky Pomeroy of Denham Springs; a son and daughter- in-law, Patrick and Tammy Gerald of Walker; a sister, Martha Watts of French Settlement; three brothers, Gaston, Russell and Kelly Gerald; six grandchildren, Dylan and Cody Gerald, Matthew Ensminger, Brandon and Jason Ahsfore and Alisah Pomeroy and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Cynthia Martin Gerald; a sister, Janice Muriel; and three brothers, Brock, Wilton and Lavell Gerald. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on August 18 with funeral services held in the Crain Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend Jim Efferson and the Reverend Richard Magee officiated. Pallbearers were Darrell Gerlad, Kenny Jones, Richard Stogner, Lavell Gerald and Randall Watts. Creel, 61, a longtime resident of Franklinton, and a resident of Covington, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday at St. Tammany Hospital in Covington. He was retired from Standard Gravel Co. He is survived by two brothers, Donald Ray Creel of Covington and Danny Creel on Franklinton. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18. A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 19, at 11:00 a.m. with Elder Willie J. Passman officiating. Burial was in the Poplarhead Church Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Col. J.R. Luper Col. J.R. Luper, age 69, and a resident of Pine, LA, died at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 17 at Dixon Medical Center in Covington. He was a deputy with the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office for many years. He was a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by six sisters and their spouses, Nellie and Jim Sandifer, Elaine and Alton Primes, Pauline and Robert Branch, Sybil and Johnny Seal, Sally Penton, all of Pine. Also Betty and Billy Amacker of Denham Springs. Three brothers and their spouses, Leroy and Mary Luper, Bobby and Delores Luper, James and Sandy Luper, all of Pine. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, Lucious and Inez Reviere Luper, two brothers, Willie Luper and Larry Luper, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Luper and Mr. and Mrs. Reviere preceded him in death. A funeral service was held on Saturday in the Chapel with Elder James Broome, Elder Don Jacobs, Elder Clyde Cooper and Elder Lerand Hunt officiated. Pallbearers were deputies of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Department. Magee Smith, age 77, and a resident of Franklinton died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, August 19, at her residence. She was a member of the Bogue Chitto Baptist Church at Mt. Hermon. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Rita Magee of Franklinton; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and David Murray of Zachary, LA; two step-sons and spouses, Walter W. and Diane Smith of Baton Rouge, Claude and Betty Smith of Ponchatoula; one step-daughter and spouse, Martha and Pete Alford of Kentwood; one brother, Will Ervin of Tylertown, MS. Also survived by five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and nine step- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude A. Magee Jr., and her second husband, Wilson E. Smith. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 9:00 a.m. Monday. A funeral service was conduced at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel. The Reverend David Murray and the Reverend Ed Delancey officiated. Active pallbearers were Matt Magee, Brent Magee, Seth Murray, Walter Smith, and Rodney Ervin. Honorary pallbearers were Jason and Nathan Smith, Elissa Junkins and Ellen Donaldson. Burial was in the Bickham Cemetery. Tyler St., Covington, 70433. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mallory LeAnne Magee Mallory LeAnne Magee, age 11, and a resident of Franklinton, LA, died at 9:10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, as a result of injured from an automobile accident. She is survived by her parents, Jesse and Shannon Strother Richardson of Franklinton; three sisters, Annette Pierre and Kendra Hutchinson of Folsom and Amanda Magee of Franklinton; one brother, Kevin Richardson of Franklinton; grandparents, Latimore and Hilda Magee of Franklinton and Clara Richardson of Enon. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and three nieces. She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis L. Magee and her grandmother, Ruth C. Strother. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. Friday. A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Gene Richards and the Reverend Eric Williams officiating. Her seventh grade classmates at Bowling Green School were seated in a reserved pew. Active pallbearers were Kyle Magee, Matt Magee, Phil Magee, Pat Magee, Jeff Jones and Lee Risner. Burial was in the Magee Cemetery at Lawrence Creek.
