Nelson, Franklinton Frank T. Nelson, 57, and a resident of Clifton, died at 6:50 p.m. Thursday, August 31, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Biloxi, MS. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a Real Estate Agent, a member of Clifton Baptist Church and Past Master of Franklinton Lodge #101. He was in charge of the Clifton Baptist Church Nursery for over 20 years. Together with Sara Bryant Riley, he started the Girls’ Softball League and was instrumental in setting up the E-911 system and served as Director. He was active with the Overseas Brats Organization and a former member of the Washington Parish Fair Association. Frank helped to move the first cabin into the Mile Branch Settlement and also helped to move the historical train engine. He was instrumental in organizing the Franklinton Community Theatre and the Council on Aging. More recently we worked to promote the D-Day Museum in New Orleans. He is survived by his wife, Sara Bateman Nelson of Clifton, his daughter and son-in-law, Hilaria and Chris Broadwater of Hammond, LA; his mother, Ruby Grace McVay of Green Acres, WA. Also survived by two brothers, James J. Nelson Jr., of Mount Holly, N.J. and Wayne Eugene Foster of Colorado; three sisters, Pat Boudreaux of Pemberton, J.J., Sharon Lea Foster of Spokane, WA, and Delores Nelson of Mount Holly, N.J. Also survived by his mother-in-law, Erlane Bateman of Clifton, his sister in-law and brother-in-law, Alma and Jimmy Magee of Clifton, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James J. Nelson. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service was held at the Crain Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Brasher, the Rev. Karl Tingle and Dr. Gene Richards officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Rayborn, John Boyd, Harvey Bienvenu, John Bienvenu, Mel Box and Bill Estes. Honorary pallbearers included his nephews, Jason Magee, Mitchell Magee and Harrison Magee. Burial was in the Ellis Cemetery in Franklinton. The family suggests donations to the Nursery Fund at Clifton Baptist Church. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Estus C. James, Franklinton Estus C. James, 91, a resident of Franklinton died at 8:40 a.m. Monday at his residence. He was a retired carpenter and and farmer and a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nellie S. James of Franklinton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Mary Ada James of Franklinton and Howard and Leona James of Lake Charles; two daughters, Marilyn Moran and Evelyn Burch both of Franklinton; also ten grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until 11 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Otho Schilling and Rev. Larry Archote officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service were Johnny Strickland, Gary Erwin, Jarrod Patton, Mike Vanover, C.B. Williams, and Johnny Watson. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Doris Kinchen Magee, Franklinton Doris Kinchen Magee, age 81, and a resident of Franklinton, died at 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, LA. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. She was also an active member and past president of the Franklinton Garden Club. She was the widow of H. Clayton Magee. Mrs. Magee is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Hallene Magee of Franklinton and one daughter, Maureen Magee of Lafayette, LA. Also survived by four grandchildren, Robin Magee, Whitney Magee, Clauton Magee and Virginia Cook; one sister, Elvea Holden of Holden, LA; two brothers, S.D. Kinchen of Holden and Garfield “Duke” Kinchen of Baton Rouge. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Garfield and Carrie Kinchen; two brothers, Ben Kinchen and Jake Kinchen. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday after 8:00 a.m. until time for services at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Karl Tingle and Dr. Gene Richards officiated. Pallbearers were Ricky Newman, Mike Daniels, Kenneth Bailey, Bill Holden, Mark Kinchen and Ray Sylvest. Burial was in Ellis Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Carey “Bo” Thigpen, Franklinton Carey “Bo” Thigpen, 83, of Franklinton formerly of Baton Rouge, a retired supervisor at Dixie Electric Corporation in Baton Rouge died Thursday at Lakeview Regional Medical enter in Covington. He was born in Franklinton and lived and worked in Baton Rouge for 40 years until he retired to Franklinton. He was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Thigpen, one daughter, Wanzie Morgan of Covington, one son-in-law, Paul Morgan; three grandchildren, John and Jennifer Morgan of Ruston, Stacey and Kenny Flecher of Harrisburg, PA, and David Morgan of Dallas, TX and four great-grandchildren, Maggie and Molly Morgan of Ruston, LA and Ashley and Kelly Fletcher of Harrisburg, PA. Visitation was held Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with visitation beginning at 12:30. Burial followed in the Magee Cemetery. McElveen, Franklinton Jesse E. McElveen, 81 and a resident of Franklinton died at 11 a.m. Friday at Riverside Medical Center. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired ambulance driver for public hospital. He is survived by his wife, Hezzie Hodges McElveen of Franklinton; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne E. and Carolyn McElveen of Franklinton; two grandsons, Marty Wayne and Michelle McElveen of St. Louis, Mo. And Jason C. McElveen of Monroe; and one great-granddaughter, Emme McElveen. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday and after 1 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services were held at 4:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in the Ellis Cemetery.
