Earl Smith, Franklinton J. Earl Smith, age 82, and a resident of Franklinton, died at 1:45 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2000 at Riverside Medical Center. He was a retired teacher, having taught many years in Washington Parish School System. He is survived by one brother, H. Sam Smith of Mt. Hermon, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruble Spring Smith. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Saturday and after 10 Sunday until time for the funeral. A funeral service was held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday at the funeral home chapel. Pallbearers were Jimmy Cannon, Pete Cannon, Sammy Smith, Jared Plaisance, Travis Plaisance and Michael Plaisance. Burial was in the Ellis Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Edward Obleton Jr., Covington Edward Obleton Jr., age 81, a native of Covington and resident of Valence Street in New Orleans, died on Thursday, September 14 at Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans. He is survived by his wife Hynetia Obleton of New Orleans; one son, Edward Obleton II of Hayward, CA, and nephews-in-law, Erby (Henrietta) Magee and Marcus Magee. Also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Obleton. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until time for the funeral service A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Daughter’s Chapel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Ike Reed officiating. Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton was in charge of arrangements. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ McCauley Adams, Isabel McCauley Adams, age 95, and a resident of the Isabel Community, died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, September 19 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Franklinton. He was a charter member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church and also a member of Zona Masonic Lodge at Enon. He was a retired gravel pit operator. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Laetta Bush Adams of Isabel; one son and daughter-in-law, Glenn Dennis and Wilene Adams of Crossett, AK; two daughters and sons-in-law, Agnes and Robert Gill of Bogalusa, Rosalie and Leon Hickman of Franklinton. Also survived by 11 granchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great- great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Carliss Adams, two grandsons, Donice and Billy Holliday, three brothers and two sisters. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon Hickman and the Rev. Tommy Morgan officiating. Pallbearers were Chris Hickman, Kevin Magee, Kevin Voth, Ben Voth, James Adams and Rob Gill. Hermon Evelyn Bankston Tate, age 75, and a resident of Mt. Hermon, LA, died at 4:30 Friday, September 15, at Riverside Medical Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arcola. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Louie Tate of Mt. Hermon; two sons, Don and Remelda Tate of Hammond; Danny and Rita Tate of Amite; three daughters, Lois and Jimmy Riley of Abita Springs, Jan and Bill Russell of Franklin, Cheryl and Larkin Elliott of Magnolia, MS. Also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Troy and Gerry Bankston of McComb, MS. Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Myrtis Miller Bankston, a sister, Natalie Daniel and a brother, Marion Ray Bankston. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Friday from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and afternoon Saturday until time for the funeral service. A funeral service was held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donald Way and the Rev. Bob Simpson officiating. Pallbearers were Yancy Riley, Scott Russell, Jonathan Russell, Chad Tate, Brad Tate, Daniel Elliott, Paul Elliot and Randy Elliot. Burial was in the Bankston Cemetery at Mt. Hermon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mary Ellen Magee Levy, Franklinton Mary Ellen Magee Levy, age 90, and a resident of Franklinton, died at 9:00 a.m. Friday at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. She served for many years on the Nursing Staff at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen Levy Mittelstaedt of Wayne, PA, and Rebecca Levy Williams of Ponchatoula, LA. Also survived by three grandchildren, Robert Christian Mittelstaedt, Jennifer Elaine Mittelstaedt and Erin Magee; and one great-grandson, Lucien Samuel Mittelstaedt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Levy. Graveside rites were conducted on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. at Ellis Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Brashier officiating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Marie Fricke Polk, Bethel Marie Fricke Polk, age 92, and a resident of the Bethel Community, died at 5:35 on Saturday at her residence. She was the widow of Herman Palk. She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Polk Allen of Franklinton; a granddaughter and husband, Pat and Larry Archote of Franklinton; a grandson and wife, Kevin and Cindy Allen of Franklinton; one sister, Mildred Simmons of Metairie; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitaiton was held on Sunday after 12:30 p.m. and until time for the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Active pallbearers wer John Keil, Gary Jones, Ben Fussell, Gary King, Skipper Crawford and Mike Wareham. Honorary pallbearers were Dudley Fricke, Wade Polk and Bobby Polk. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
