Mrs. Kennedy was a devoted wife, mother, music teacher and church pianist for many years. She was a member of Briarwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her husband, Charlie “Rastus” Kennedy of State Line. Also survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, David W. Kennedy of State Line, Kevin R. and Susan Kennedy of Bogalusa. She is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law also, Dana S. Froberg of Dallas, Tx, Kathy M. and Bobby Polk of State Line. Also survived by four sisters and spouses, Hilda B. Seal of Angie, Maxine B. and Alton Tynes, Dorothy B. and Ford Kennedy all of State Line, Maureen B. and Robert Lee Hobgood of Tylertown, Ms; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Homer W. and Ollie Ellis Boone and a brother Stanley Boone. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 PM until 9 PM Wednesday and after 9 AM Thursday. Funeral Services were held at 11 PM Thursday in the chapel with Rev. Jerry Kennedy and Dr. Wayne Cook officiating. Pallbearers were Clyde Boone, Carl Boone, Lawrence Boone, Paul Boone, Glen Boone, Alton Tynes, Ford Kennedy, and Robert Lee Hobgood. Burial was in Briarwood Baptist Church Cemetery. Mae Caves Barber Mae Caves Barber, age 78, and a resident of Franklinton died on Sunday, January 23, 2000 at her residence. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Billy Ray and Ann Corkern of Franklinton; one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and David Bateman of Franklinton. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two husbands, Wilmer Corkern and Louis Delon Barber; one son James C. Corkern, two brothers James Caves, and Bill Caves; and one sister Marcus Corkern. Visitation was held at the Crain Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Monday, and after 8 a.m. Tuesday. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel with Rev. Leon Hickman and Rev. Joey Miller officiating. Pallbearers were Thomas Phelps, John Corkern, Paul Bateman, Donovan Kileen, Ray Cotton, and Sidney Cotton. Burial was followed in the Springhill-Magee Cemetery. Flora B. “Tuggy” Tate Mrs. Flora B. Tate, 97, died Wednesday, January 19, 2000 at Memorial Medical Center, New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a resident and native of Franklinton. She is survived by her daughter, Jessie Lee Varnado of New Orleans, Louisiana; four sons, Doyle Tate of Franklinton, Louisiana; Ollie Tate, Sr., Troby Tate, and John D. Tate of New Orleans, Louisiana. She was also survived by 29 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Visitation was held Tuesday, January 26, 2000 at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton from 2 a.m. until 5 p.m. then again Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Service. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at Winan United Methodist Church with Rev. Terrence August officiating. Burial followed in Crystal Springs Cemetery. Patsy Ruth Burkart Mrs. Patsy Ruth Burkart, 67, a long time resident of Harahan now residing in Franklinton died on January 26, 2000 at her residence. She is survived by one son, Thomas Burkart of Lumberton, Ms.; one grandson Ryan Burkart of Lumberton, Ms.; and three sisters, Millie Walther of Franklinton, Mary O’Brian of New Orleans, and Ora Hamilton of Enterprise, Al. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel. Pallbearers were Ricky Walther, Mike Walther, Roy Burkart, Dick McHenry, Phil King, and Woody Burkart. Burial followed in the Silver Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Mr. Hermon. Robert Lucius “Doug” Penton Robert Lucius “Doug” Penton, age 74, and a resident of Franklinton, died at 7:50 p.m. on January 26 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington, LA. He was a retired U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Laurette Gobet Penton; two daughters, Anita Braconi of Corsica, France and Anne Sylvest of LaPlace, LA. Also survived by two brothers, Leslie Ray Penton of Bogalusa, LA, and Coy Penton of Atlanta, GA, and one sister, Opal Breland of Franklinton. Also survived by a special niece, June Tarver of Franklinton and special nephew, Charles “Casper” Penton, also of Franklinton. Penton is survived also by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His parents were Mina McBeth and Robert Reuben Penton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Charles Penton Sr. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Friday, January 27 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday. Funeral services were Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Elder Ted Phillips, Dr. Gene Richards and Elder Theodore Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Tarver Family Cemetery. Cheryl Nielson Schilling Cheryl Nielson Schilling, 41, and a resident of the Mt. Pisgah community died at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27 at her residence. She is survived by her husband, Otho Schilling Jr., of Mt. Pisgah Community; two sons, Brandon and Cole Schilling, both of Mt. Pisgah Community; her parents, Willie J. and Jean Roberts Nielson of Franklinton; two brothers, Russell Nielson and Bruce Nielson and her grandmother, Susie Nielson, all of Franklinton. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Saturday and after 8:00 a.m. Sunday. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at First Baptist Church in Franklinton with Rev. Ed Jenkins, Rev. Ed Griffin, Rev. Denny Brumfield and Rev. Luther Stanford officiating. Active pallbearers were Dudley Nielson, Nickey Smith, Brent Owens, Clay Schilling, Jonathan Kennedy, James Bickham, Clint Bickham, and Heath Pittman. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Deacons of Pine First Baptist Church and the Youth Group of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Mildred Warren Scobel Mildred Warren Scobel, 83, a longtime resident of Gretna, LA, and now a resident of Baton Rouge, died at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2000. She was a retired secretary for Lykes Brothers Steamship Co. She is survived by two sons, Buddy Wood of Franklinton, La, and William P. Pitre of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Delores Ann Gill of Long Beach, CA; one sister, Marie Kliesch of Orange, TX, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home after 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time for the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Karl Tingle of First Baptist Church in Franklinton officiated at the funeral service in the funeral home chapel. Graveside rites were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Westlawn Mausoleum in New Orleans.
