Tuesday at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond, LA. He is survived by his parents, Charles and Dana, his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rick of Kentwood, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Loftice of Franklinton, and Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Devall Jr., of Loranger. Also survived great-grandparents, Bobbie Jean Gaines of Amite, LA and Gertrude Devall of Loranger and great-great-grandparents, Virena J. Crowe of Franklinton and Jessie Mae Gaines of Amite. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by great-grandfathers, Raymond Gaines and Wilton Devall Sr,. and great-great-grandfathers, Ocie Crowe and Mildred Gaines. Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Wednesday and after 8 A.M. Thursday, with funeral service in the funeral home chapel conduced by Dr. Gene Richards, the Rev, Dale Varnado and the Rev. Calvin Crowe. Active pallbearers ere Kenny Devall, Jerry Ketchum, Jerry Applegate and Gene Salter. Honorary pallbearers were Chris Templit and Dale Vernon. Burial was in the Crowe Cemetery. New Era Leader May 5, 2001 Josie Lee Hookfin, Franklinton Josie Lee Hookfin, age 91, and a resident of Good Samaritan Nursing Home and former resident of Williams Street in Franklinton, died on Tuesday, April 24 at Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton. She is survived by two sons: Narthis Banks and Milton (Daisy) Banks of Elkhart, Indiana. Also survived by two sisters: Edna (Chester) Ewing of Hammond, Louisiana and Christella James of Bogalusa, Louisiana, fifteen Grandchildren and four Great-grandchildren. She is also survived by on brother in law, Jessie Marks of Franklinton, Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation was at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton. Funeral services were held at Magee's Temple Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Cecealine Tate officiating. Interment was in St. James Cemetery. New Era Leader May 5, 2001 Lucinda Hookfin, Kentwood Lucinda Hookfin, age 80, a resident of Hookfin Road, Kentwood, LA, died on Sunday, April 22, 2001 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond LA. She is survived by four daughters, Barbara Hookfin, Ann (John) Armstrong and Judy Hookfin, all of Kentwood and Sylvia (Arzo) Grayson of New Llana, LA; five sons, Jimmie Hookfin, Dennis Hookfin, Ronald "Ronnie" Hookfin, Robert Hookfin and Bennie, all of Kentwood. Also survived by sister, Lillian Brown of New Orleans, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation was on Friday, April 27 at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton. A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, April 28 at Deliverance Temple Church of God in Christ. Elder John A. Armstrong officiated. Crain and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in Hookfin Cemetery. New Era Leader May 5, 2001 Mrytis Singletary Porter, Slidell Myrtis Singletary Porter, age 90, a native of Sun, LA, former resident of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell, LA for the past 9 years died on Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Slidell Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late James William Porter and beloved Mother of James Woodrow Porter, Slidell LA and Mother In Law of Karen F. Porter. She was the daughter of the late David E. and Annie Guillot Singletary. Sister of Verna Badon, Duluth, GA, and the late Woodrow W. Singletary, Harvey E. Singletary, Isabelle Van Tuyl, and Hazel Schilleci. Also survived by grandchildren: James E. Porter, Nina Thibodaux, Mary Stracener, Naomi Porter and 2 great-grandchildren. She was a former School Teacher at Mt. Herman High School in the 1930's and 1940's. Services were held at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. Interment was in the Mt. New Era Leader May 5, 2001 Joe Nielson Jr., Franklinton Joe Nielson Jr., age 73, and resident of Franklinton died at 3:50 AM Saturday at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington. He was a retired dairyman and a member of the Stateline United Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Sumrall Nielson of Franklinton, three sons and daughter in laws, Lerue and Annette Nielson, Ronnie and Joan Nielson, Gary and Carel Nielson all of Franklinton. Also survived by nine Grandchildren: Danny and Suzzette Nielson, Vickie and Jeff Magee, Kim Nielson, Rhonda and Joe Jacobs, Christopher and Pamela Nielson, Grand and Lynnette Nielson, Matthew and Bridgette Nielson; eleven Great- grandchildren: Dustin and Dantelle Nielson, Kavia and Landon Magee, Darrell and Katie Burris, Brianna Adams, Brandon and Hunter Jones, Alexis and McKinley Nielson; two Step- grandchildren: Sara and Chance Broadway. Preceded in death by his father Joe Nielson Sr. and a daughter and son in law JoAnn and Mike Magee. Vistitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 PM until 10 PM Saturday and after 9 AM Sunday. A funeral service was held at 2 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. W.L. Tullos, Rev. Leon Hickman, Rev. Stanley Strahan and Eld. Don Jacobs officiating. Pallbearers were Russell Nielson, Levoy Magee, Clinton Dickents, Greg Holmes, Jewel Wayne Sumrall and Keith Sumrall. Burial was in Magee Cemetery at Lawrence Creek.
