Phillip Grantham(Died January 3, 2001)AMITE - Phillip Grantham, 49, a native of Bogalusa and a resident of Montpilier, LA, died yesterday in Oschner Hospital after a long and valiant fight against heart disease. A member of Montpilier Baptist Church, he served as a helicopter crew chief in Vietnam from 1969 to 1972. He received numerous medals and returned from Vietnam to be stationed at Fort Benning, GA. He was an army recruiter in Tupelo, MS, served three years in Schweinfurt, West Germay as a tank commander, reached the rank of Staff Sergeant, and then returned to Fort Polk, LA. There he received his discharge and was a recruiter for the National Guard in Covington. He later received his nursing degree from Pearl River Junior College.Survivors include his wife, Patsy Grantham of Montpilier; a sister, Val Keaton of Bogalusa; three daughters, Crystal Kennedy of Federalsburg, MD, Candy Hensley, and Casey Massey, both of Charlotte, NC; two-step-sons, Tommy Beasley of Pearl River, and Tony Beasley of Montpilier; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.Preceding him in death were his parents, Hezzie Grantham of Bush and Louise Grantham of Bogalusa; and his grandparents, Cotton and Eva Grantham of Bush. A member of Montpilier Baptist Church, he served as a helicopter crew chief in Vietnam from 1969 to 1972. He received numerous medals and returned from Vietnam to be stationed at Fort Benning, GA. He was an army recruiter in Tupelo, MS, served three years in Schweinfurt, West Germay as a tank commander, reached the rank of Staff Sergeant, and then returned to Fort Polk, LA. There he received his discharge and was a recruiter for the National Guard in Covington. Frank Sherman Stupka Died January 27, 2001 01/31/01 Frank Sherman Stupka(Died January 27, 2001)BOGALUSA - Frank Sherman Stupka, 89, a member of one of the pioneering families in the early days of Bogalusa, died at the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Saturday. He was a graduate of Bogalusa High School and graduated from LSU in 1936 with a B.S. in Education. He was a letterman on LSU's first SEC Championship football team. He taught and coached football at BHS. He was also head coach at Independence High School and coached their first undefeated team in 1941.Stupka was called to active duty with 105 AA BN of the Louisiana National Guard prior to WWII. He served in ETO from North Africa to Sicily and Europe. He rose to the rank of Major. He was a long time businessman in Bogalusa, Hammond and throughout the state and Southeast. He received the outstanding service award from AARP.Surviving Stupka are his wife, Leona G. Stupka of Bogalusa; two sons, Michael B. Stupka of Mandeville and Mark Stupka of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Frankie Stupka of Bogalusa; two grandsons, Christopher McNeese of Mont Clare, VA, and Derek Stupka of Minneapolis, MN; two granddaughters, Michelle Stupka of Austin, TX, and Mary Beth Robinson of Denham Springs, LA; and one great grandson, Geofferson McNeese of Mont Clare, VA.He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto Sherman Stupka and Robelia Stupka.Visitation will be held today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel.
