Ethel Harry Williams Died May 28, 2001 06/04/01 Ethel Harry Williams(Died May 28, 2001)VARNADO - Ethel Harry Williams, 58, a resident of Varnado died Monday.Without warning, death plucked a flower from our garden, on May 28, 2001, at Trinity Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.Ethel Harry Williams was born to the late Curtis Harry and the late Ammie Foster Moses on April 22, 1943 in Angie, Louisiana.Ethel, was reared and received her early education at Jones Creek Elementary and graduated from Wesley Ray High School in 1962 in Angie, Louisiana. She went on to continue her education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Later she attended Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas receiving her degree in elementary education. She was a member of the Washington Parish Chapter Southern University Alumni.Ethel united with Mary's Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age under the leadership of Rev. A. Franklin. Upon returning home she reunited with Mary's Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served as a Substitute Sunday School teacher, Chair Person Administrative council , Outreach Ministry, Finance Committee, Church News Letter Editor "God's Property", Single Men and Women Committee and any other services she was asked to do.Ethel was united in marriage to Wallace Williams in 1967 and helped in the rearing of Carmen William.Ethel had many accomplishments including being a self employed day care teacher in her home, serving as a secretary to Gulf Oil in Houston, Texas, being involved in the Somerset Community Action Program in New Jersey as an Education Coordinator, serving as a school teacher at Varnado Elementary, and being a special education teacher at Varnado High School.Ethel leaves to cherish her memory Wallace Williams of Baton Rouge, LA; Carmen Williams of Las Vegas, NV; three brothers Clarence Harry, Hubert Foster of Varnado, J. Myrtle Elizabeth "Memommie" Sandifer Died June 17, 2001 06/18/01 RUSTON, LA - Myrtle Elizabeth "Memommie" Sandifer of Ruston, LA, formerly of Bogalusa, died Sunday, June 17, 2001 at the age of 84. Mrs. Sandifer was born June 3, 1917 in Weathersby, MS to Maude and Louis Mize. Her career began in 1947 when as a widowed mother of two young girls she opened Stephens Grocery store in Magee, MS. She successfully operated the business single-handedly until her marriage in 1951 to Ernest Gilbert Sandifer. Upon moving to Bogalusa, she continued to enjoy a career as a self-trained bookkeeper until her retirement in 1985. Although retired from business, she remained very involved in the community. She and her family were active members of Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years where she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, and was a member of WMU. She was known as an excellent cook and an avid bowler. At the age of 70, she received an award for the highest score in the Senior Bowling League with a score of 200. In 1991, she and her husband moved to Ruston, LA to be closer to their family. They were members of First Baptist Church of Ruston. He continued in his pursuit after coming to Bogalusa. He was player/coach of baseball, basketball and softball teams, YMCA league, and managed and played for the Gaylord teams.He coached Little League, Church League and YMCA League boy's teams. He was a veteran ofWWII having served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U. S. Army and was in the Occupation forces of Japan immediately after WWII. He served as a Deacon in First Baptist Church for some 40 years, taught youth and adults and served on various committees. He was a member of the Board of Directors of both the YMCA and the YWCA. Upon moving to Bogalusa, she continued to enjoy a career as a self-trained bookkeeper until her retirement in 1985. Although retired from business, she remained very involved in the community. She and her family were active members of Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years where she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, and was a member of WMU. She was known as an excellent cook and an avid bowler. At the age of 70, she received an award for the highest score in the Senior Bowling League with a score of 200. In 1991, she and her husband moved to Ruston, where they were members of Frist Baptist Church, to be closer to their family. In addition to her many accomplishments, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.She is survived by two daughters, Billie Stephens (Dr. Donald) Nelson of Ruston, and Sallie Stephens (Frank Murray) Blakely of West Monroe; a step-son, Robert Sandifer of Helena, MT; five grandchildren, Pamela Beth Nelson, Paul Stephen (Lisa Roebuck) Nelson of Ruston, Paige Nelson (Chad Aaron) Shirley of Kingwood, TX, Kelli Blakely Presnall, and Krista Blakely (Marty Glenn) Underwood of West Monroe; seven great-grandchildren, Michael Nelson Cantwell, Marc Richard Cantwell, Larkin Elizabeth Nelson, and Barrett Stephen Nelson, all of Ruston, Claudia Kate Shirley of Kingwood, TX, Blakely Nicole Underwood and Kaleb Glenn Underwood, both of West Monroe; and special friends, Alma Wright and Effie Presnall.Preceding her in death was her husband, Ernest Gilbert Sandifer; her parents, Maude and Louis Mize, and her brothers, Opal and Louis Aaron "L. A." Mize.The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Kilpatrick's Funeral Home. William R. Klein Died June 26, 2001 06/29/01 WOODLAND HILLS, CA - William R. Klein, a resident of Woodland Hills, CA died Tuesday.He was known as William Clay Bryant and as Billy Klein from the 1941 Bogalusa High School Football team. Bill served with immense pride in the Army-Airforce during WWII. He was assigned to the 100th bomb group (Bloody 100th) where he served on a B-17 and completed an incredible 31 missions over Europe. After serving his country, Bill diligently pursued a career in Hollywood as an actor. Spanning over 40 years, he had roles in numerous movies and television series. His distinctive voice was heard on many familiar radio and television commercials. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Patricia; son Josh and wife Deanna; daughters Jennifer and Dana; grandchildren Chad, Dustie and Jayce; as well as numerous special friends and relatives whose lives Bill abundantly enriched. Ormond Arthur Purdy Died June 26, 2001 06/27/01 GOODWATER, AL - Mr. Ormond Arthur Purdy, 81, a resident of Goodwater, AL died yesterday at Goodwater Nursing Home. Mr. Purdy was born on October 17, 1919 in St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada to Walter and Ethel Goodacre Purdy. He was a veteran of World War II and served until his retirement in the U. S. Army where he was Security Supervisor for the Apollo Space Program at Cape Canaveral, FL. He is survived by a son, Patrick Purdy of Goodwater, AL; a daughter, Pamela Crawley of Bogalusa; a brother, Robert Purdy of West Patterson, NJ; four grandchildren, Troy Cotton Sr., Chadd Cotton, Amanda Cotton and Paul Cotton, all of Bogalusa; five great-grandchildren, Zack Cotton, Taylor Cotton, Hayden Cotton, Ashley Lavine and Troy Cotton Jr, all of Bogalusa; and several nieces and nephews.
