She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, John Ervin and Lila Adams of Bell Chasse, Quincy and Charlene Adams of Varnado and Marvin and Virginia Adams of Bogalusa; one daughter, Bonnie Strahan of Slidell; three sisters, Vender Jean Cauley of Pascagoula, Ms, Mary Hager of Victoria, TX, and Loucrisie Reynolds of Varnado; three brothers, Ralph Ard and Kenneth Ard both of Franklinton and James Owens of Hackley; 11 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, B.J. Adams; two brothers, Benton Ard and Charlie Owens; and one son-in-law, Wiley Strahan. He was born June 19, 1909 near Liberty in Amite County, MS, and reared in the Sunny Hill community of Washington Parish where he graduated from Sunny Hill School. He was the son of the late Hillery Waller Powell and Saluda Hurst Powell. He has resided in Bogalusa since 1927 when he came to work in the chemical laboratory of the Paper Mill where he retired as a supervisor from Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill in 1974. Mr. Powell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bogalusa. He is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Bonnie Jean Powell Tynes of Bogalusa and Patsy Ruth Powell and Eldon F. Wesley of Canoga Park, CA; three granddaughters, Pamela Jean Tynes Kaminski and husband Mark L. Kaminski of London, England, Terri Ruth Wesley Bucy and husband Ron Bucy of Valencia, CA and Dalene Ann Wesley of Sylmar, CA; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Ms. Mims was a retired teacher of 36 years. She worked several years as a business teacher in Memphis, TN, Breaux Ridge, LA, and Seattle, WA. She returned to Bogalusa in 1982 to teach typing and special education. Ms. Mims was a longtime resident of Bogalusa where she was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Louisiana Association of Educators and National Association of Educators.
